“Favourite pub possibly ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Spent 8 months in Horsham and have such good memories of this place. Food menu is amazing, as are the staff. very accommodating, made every effort to help us when a disabled relative came to visit. Lovely atmosphere. Miss this place!

“Shelter from an April shower”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Visiting a relative yesterday, popped into the Black Jug for a light lunch. Excellent range of real ales from different parts of the UK, good service and a pleasant ambience. Light lunch menu options attractive and well-presented. Pleasant way to spend a wet lunch hour! Worth a visit.

We were a potential party of 5, including 2 children, looking to eat at about 5pm, in this pub recommended by our daughter, one of the party of 5.
While we were advised that the establishment was serving food at this time, we were politely advised that children were not admitted to eat after 5pm.
How a dining pub can decline a party of this size, at this time of day, in these recessionary times, is somewhat a mystery to us.
To be fair, we are not reviewing to criticise, as the person who met us was perfectly polite, but little was offered by way of background information, hence the feeling of disappointment. Perhaps there are perfectly valid reasons for this policy, but we were not made aware of them?
We ended up spending £60+ in another Horsham eaterie, and are unlikely to visit the Black Jug, when visiting our daughter in this area in the future, even without the grandchildren.

“Hit and miss”

I think I have reached my limit ith this plac. Never had organised service with groups and quie expensive for pub grub. Drinks expensive also. But the atmosphere is nice so makes an easy option to meet others for drink etc..

“Another one from the chain........”

This is another revamp from this organisation, we had intended to eat, with friends here, but decided against it!
The place is just too predicatble, pushy with food, lots of tables reserved, if its just a drink you want, this isn't the place for you.
Usual ales, wines etc., a bit pricey, and phoney for us.We just had a beer, which was ok, not exciting but ok!
The staff are trying, and a bit fake in their service, but it can be expected with this typical approach they have. Its a concept they have copied across, their organisation.
Its a restaurant dressed up as a pub !
Over priced food, for us, prob., average for the area.
