“Great food, lovely service and keen owner always doing his best to keep the menu fresh and creative.”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

We have dined here on many occasions over the years and have never had a bad experience.

The chef-owner is clearly a big foodie and is always inventing and adding exciting new dishes to their menu / specials. His enthusiasm bubbles over and he gets very excited talking about food generally, which is inspirational.

Meats cooked to perfection, a wide range of interesting pastas and the option to substitute component parts in dishes all make for a lovely experience.

Top that with friendly and attentive (but not overly) service and a nice atmosphere, makes this place a joy to dine in every time.

Highly recommended to all.

“Brilliant Food”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

We our going to this restaurant for the last 13 years, it is our favourite, for special occasions, food excellent, service brilliant, my only problem when we went this time is, tables squashed together, it was busy, but when I go out with my husband for a meal, I like a table a good distance away from the next, not roughly 6 inches away, but excellent restaurant

“Excellent Food at a Price”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

We ate here midweek at the end of October when the restaurant was surprisingly full on a Tuesday night. It only seats about 40 and is charmingly quaint and independent. Service from a lady I presumed to be the owner was faultless, not too pushy, but prompt and efficient, and the courses were always served promptly though not too quickly.

As for the food, the garlic bread, and the starters of grilled rolls of parma ham and baby scallops with chicory were excellent, the calves liver main course melted in my mouth, and the medallions of fillet steak were cooked perfectly and exactly as requested. The vegetables were fresh and on the perfect boundary between crunchy and soft.

Unfortunately the desserts were average. I had a homemade apple crumble with custard and I'm sure it was homemade, but the crumble was soft and soggy and the custard was watery and lacked consistency, it wasn't creamy like custard should be. The "cassata romana" is an ice cream and candied fruit dessert that tasted like it had been bought in when everything else was homemade.

Overall, the cost for that and half a bottle of wine came to over £80, which is fine for a special occasion but on the pricey side if this is your local Italian, which it is for us. While the vast majority of the food was delicious, I'm not sure we'll be making ourselves regular customers here.
