“Lovely Hotel - Fantastic setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

It was so nice to find such a charming Country House Hotel so close to London. I would really like to join a Murder Mystery event here, the setting in this old historic house with its lovely gardens is ideal. Will definatly come back again if I get the chance.

We attended my brothers wedding on Saturday and were suitably impressed with the hotel and the beautiful grounds. The wedding ceremony was held in a tasteful room with a small bar. We particularly liked the subtle library bar as it provided a bolt hole from the music upstairs. Our bedroom was spacious and clean although there was a little too much furniture for our liking. The breakfast was freshly cooked and substantial. Overall a very good hotel and semi rural retreat that is conveniently located between Harrow and Watford.

Room Tip: The Grand Duke bedroom is spacious

There are magicians. Then there are good magicians, then great magicians and then there is Max Somerset.

I sat less than five feet from him as he picked up the glass of red wine from one of my fellow diners, poured it into a folded newspaper, opened up the paper, folded it again and poured the wine back. I could also mention the water he poured from a £20 note into a large wine glass, only to be followed a few moments later by a live goldfish from the same note. Finally, how do you explain a member of the audience, clearly chosen at random, who wrote down the name of a country? After going through a really funny song routine, oh yes he plays the piano too, in order to name the country within the song which of course he carefully didn’t name, he then announced that name. That was only part of the trick. He already had it written on a board that he hadn’t been near since the start of that particular routine.

Well done The Grim’s Dyke. The meal was just superb, the entertainment was, well it was magic, and the whole evening a terrific success. Please keep doing them.

I stayed one night at the Grim's Dyke for business. The grounds and the building are beautiful. Unfortunately the rooms are dated and feel dusty despite being clean. The food was particularly poor. The bar was OK. The staff were nice and helpful. Overall a place with a lot of potential but it requires a refresh and a new kitchen.

Arrived to find plenty of parking and after a long day, this was appreciated. Reception staff were helpful and offered to carry my bags. My room, 115 was spacious and I had the facility of filter coffee, which was a bonus. It was quiet, so I slept well. Breakfast was freshly cooked to perfection. Thank you. Look forward to returning

Bit of an unusual review this as we didn't actually stay at the hotel although friends were - we wanted to put something special in the room for them as a welcome.

I contacted Eddie Graham who arranged everything beautifully. In addition to our request, he added some extra touches, making the presentation look stunning and including a personal note.

As we live locally, there is rarely a reason to stay overnight but we do go for afternoon teas and drinks from time to time; the staff are always friendly and courteous - not just Mr Graham!
