“Garden centre with some birds”

Not quite what we were expecting...you walk through a garden center and there's an aviary in the back with birds of prey...who look as though to say what the bleep and I doing tied up in here! Specially the bateleur eagle from Africa who should be on the savannah and not in Hagley! Owner was a bit rude. We were visiting from the US and turned up without knowing you could book time with the birds. Asked him if they could fit my 12 yr old son in with another group and was told they were fully booked for the next few weeks, he then announced that he had to go as the phone was ringing (which it obviously wasn't) and just walked off and left us. Some lessons in customer service would not go amiss. The birds did look clean and well cared for. It's just small and not my idea of a falconry centre .

Having checked the website earlier, we arrived just in time for the daily display at 1pm. This was excellent, I can't praise Amy, the volunteer falconer highly enough. She has a great empathy with the birds and also involves her audience, and there were a broad range of ages on the day I visited. A number of birds were flown and a background given of these birds, and also some baby owls were shown, with children allowed to get right up close to them. The setting is nice, you'd never think it was on a main road, it is so peaceful in the garden. For the admission price you get unlimited access on the day, we went back to the garden centre for some refreshments and shopping, then re-entered the falconry centre.
Webbs garden centre is worth a look around, decent plants at fair prices, and the cafe is nice, very good cake and coffee.

My son, who loves wildlife, had his 26th birthday this week. This was the place he wanted to go. I was the lucky person who got to go with him. I can't remember a nicer day out, combining beautiful surroundings with relaxation and unforgettable activities. The Falcony Centre is on Kidderminster Rd. It's a bit of a walk from Hagley Railway Station and a taxi is hard to find, but we were lucky enough to get a lift. The Centre is on the same site as Webb's Garden Centre, tucked away behind it and with woodland to the back. There are dozens of birds of prey there, and all are healthy, happy and well looked after by the people who run it. It's clear they do what they do from the heart, and out of respect for their birds. You can get in for a few pounds and tour around and watch the displays, or for just over £60 for a half day, you get to wear a gauntlet, have the birds fly to your arm, and experience eagles and owls really close up. The staff who run the special activities are really knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about birds - the kinds of facts that just make you appreciate birds even more. The Garden Centre has a cafe as well as a good range of garden stuff, gifts, books and cards. I hope to get the opportunity to visit again.

Arrived to be sat with a coffee/tea and a quick chat. A walk around the aviaries with an in depth talk about the different birds. Then you don the glove and have all the different birds fly to your arm. They start with the small lighter birds and progress to the big owls. Awesome time an well worth a visit.

Just spent an excellent afternoon with my Grandsons at this centre. Very informative, amusing and entertaining. As well as good learning for the kids. Deliberately worth supporting. Will visit again. Kept the children quite with the birds flying low over their heads.
