Absolutely terrible after waiting nearly 1 hour before our drinks order taken we ordered a bottle of wine as cheaper than vodka and coke £6.35!!!
The waiter dispensed 5 small glasses of wine and took the bottle away when we asked for top ups we were charged for another bottle , the manager was adamant we had drunk this claiming we had had 8 glasses.
Food was raw our nearly complete plates were taken away and we were not asked how the meal was.
Will never return and urge others to do the same.
This restaurant will only take reservations if paid in full , I pity anyone unfortunate to be having their Xmas do here.

Unfriendly welcome, very cold and rubbish heating. If going to leave customers wine away from their table then one must be attentive enough to notice when glasses become empty. Food very average and service is pretentious and even less than average. Could be a wonderful place given its location.
Wouldn't go again.

We had a table booked for 7:30. Warning bells should have rung when this restaurant was the only one we could get in on a Friday night so close to Christmas.
It was cold. So cold that we kept our coats on in the main restaurant. There seemed to be a draught coming from the window area, although none appeared to be open. The radiator running under the windows were giving out very little heat, and were slightly warm to the touch, but no more.
Our first course (from the limited menu) was soup. We paid extra for a selection of strange breads, which was at least fresh, but the soup was only warm, not hot.
Next, was the main course. I can only comment on my own meal which was steak. This was, to say the least, chewy. So much so that I had to discreetly dispense with the first mouthful as I couldn't break it down into a small enough piece to swallow. I had about a dozen or so very small chips, three onion rings and three cherry tomatoes. By the time we had eaten the main course, we decided that we were too cold to stay there and said as much to the waiter. They had some sort of mini heater / blower balanced on a chair near the entrance door, but this was no use to us whatsoever as we were seated so far away from it.
Consequently, we gave up on dessert and coffee, asked for our bill, (£96 for three of us for just two courses) and left. We will not be coming back!
I have to say, we are fairly easy to please, and have eaten at quite a few places in and around Gravesend. Not always at 'upmarket' venues either. We have had some very nice meals at the Gandhi restaurant just along the road, and The Cricketers at Meopham, which offers very good value for money.
Sadly, Riva will not be getting our custom in the future, unless there is a massive improvement in the menu, the atmosphere and the quality of the food. I have to say though, that the staff were very polite and attentive. At least there were no problems in this area.

This review is based on the bar area.

This place was fine when it first opened, since the reopening it just seems worse.

The Beer is expensive but well looked after, it's still a very nice inside too. Coffee is reasonably priced and was quite nice.

For food we ordered a selection of 'Tapas'. The chunky chips were not very hot, they did however taste nice. One of the other dishes were fish Goujons, which were ok.

Lastly as the title explained, we had skewered chicken, two of which were fine, and two which were undercooked. One was actually quite raw in the middle.

Nice setting, expensive and undercooked food has put me off going back since.

Might try it again next summer, a group of ladies ordered Nacho's that looked good, you can't undercook those.

I'm afraid the Riva hasn't learned form recent feedback and it's performance hasn't improved. We went for dinner on Saturday evening, November 3rd 2012, with some friends who live very near the Riva, but.... we were on the only occupied table in the place (the others must have been tipped off), the music gave the place no ambience, being more rock than background, THE HEATING WAS OFF IN NOVEMBER !!! so they brought little inefficient fan heaters to plug in around our table (it felt like caravanning). My meal was very small and cold when it arrived, so I sent it back and asked for some veg to go with it. The veg arrive promptly but minus the meal - very disorganised!!! My Wife's meal of Sea Bass had lost the other half of the fish as only one fillet arrived. The gents toilet is falling apart - with one urinal and one toilet out of commission, and when I washed my hands the tap spun round on the sink. This place is rapidly heading downhill. Avoid - what a waste of a lovely location :(
