“really friendly service- excellent wedding reception”
Reviewed May 17, 2010

Having read all the negative comments on this site, I was very pleasantly surprised by our stay last weekend- we went for a family wedding, which was held at the hotel. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We had an excellent bar meal one evening- it was piping hot, and quickly served. The food at the wedding reception was also very good and hot, even though there were a lot of guests. OK, the decoration could do with updating, but, unlike other hotels, there were no scuff marks on the walls- they were painted in a nice cream colour. I must say that our room was on the lake side of the hotel- the A2 side would have been much noisier. Altogether, it was very good value ( we had a special offer) and a very pleasant experience.

Stayed here on several times in the past and always found it satisfactory until the change of management. Found them to be rude ignorant and extremely unprofessional. Will never return and have also informed work collegues not to return either.

greeted by a nauseating smell of old chip fat which permeated throughout the whole of the 1970's timewarp building. Will refrain from commenting on rooms, since most other reviews say it all, and the disgusting smell was the bigget problem for me.

We chose to stay here as we were attending a wedding at Castle Cooling Barn and the hotel is fifteen minutes drive away. Good points, the room was large, clean, comfortable with a large bathroom and good shower. Staff friendly & helpful. We booked a room with a lake view and the lake was lovely. The lake view room cost £10 more than those facing the A2, but even so our room was less than £50. The price included full english breakfast which was good. Bad points, there was a continuous knocking from the bathroom pipes all night-not loud but I could hear it even with bathroon door closed and when we returned to the Inn after the wedding, the whole building smelt of chips. If you want a cheap, clean place to stay overnight on route to somewhere else, it's fine, but for cheap & cheerful short breaks, I'd use a Travel or Premier Inn

We stayed here for one night , for a Valentine's dinner/dance , and we had a great time , ok , so the decor is dated and it is situated just of the A2 but their Valentine's function with Take That tribute band was great fun, and the food was lovely , even the breakfast the next morning , I really dont know what people are moaning about . The Inn on the Lake has everything you need for a short stay.
We hope to book again in the summer for another one of their dinner/dance funtions.
Thankyou Inn on the Lake,

all other reviews are right, 70's decor and so dirty, I couldnt wait to shower when I got home. Couldnt comment on breakfast as the dining room was so dimly lit I couldnt see what I was eating. (or perhaps the was the plan). The website is totally misleadinging, as it looks half decent on there. My collegue has plastic bedsheets, which says it all. Only wish I had read the reviews before it was booked.

Booked into the Inn on the Lake for a two-day stay by a booking agency. Reception very friendly, both by phone and in person. They'd lost my booking so had to sort that out. 80 rooms, of which 8 were occupied, and I got one with a view of the A2!! I never did see the damn lake. Room large, bathroom reasonable if you like 1971 decor, as is the case with the whole place...remarkable retro style flourishes throughout...whoever thought that was chic?! Food and bar no more than fair, but a meal for three with vegetarian friends was good value if unimaginative. Bar staff smashing and friendly, restaurant waiter gloomy and inflexible. I won't stay again, and when I told taxi drivers where I was staying they all laughed. To the management: Dredge the lake, see if you can find where the musty smell is coming from.
