“A reminder of Gravesend's Interesting History”

Statue of Pocahontas
Ranked #6 of 29 things to do in Gravesend

Reviewed August 22, 2012

Although only a statue in its own right it is an important reminder of the important part Gravesend and St George's has played in History.

Commemorating the fact that possibly the second (to Chief Sitting Bull) best known native american in the UK actually died and was interred here.

...it's just a statue. In a park. Near a church. What more is there to say? A placard near the entrance to the nearby car park gives a bit of history, but there's nothing at the statue, which is too bad. It's an interesting story; Go into the very nice Visitors Centre nearby to find out more.

Set in the grounds of St Georges Church which is very pretty. A little bit of history in Gravesend. After this a short walk following the river would take you past Bawley Bay, the Mission House, the ruins of a blockhouse. Worth a look.

A very worthwhile statue to visit with so much history surrounding it . I got married at the St Georges Church so I am very proud to say Princess Pocohontas is in my wedding photographs!

Nothing to dislike, if you are interested in Pocahontas, a lovely statue of her.
