I stayed at this B&B a number of times.
There are a number of different style of rooms ranging from a wooden pool house to well presented suites.
However, I would strongly advise that you confirm what accomodation you are booking up front, as when they are busy you can be moved to the rooms that share kitchenette and bathroom.
I advise to steer clear of these as the kitchen is not cleaned regularly, and the bathroom is cleaned even less.
The other rooms are fairly comfortable but basic, but there is a cockerel that is very noisy very early.

Room Tip: Avoid the shared facility rooms.

I stayed in the wooden chalet which is separate from the main house for two nights on business.

Plus points:
Clean room with fridge, microwave, plate, cup, bowl, milk, good power shower.
There is plenty of parking

Minus points:
The chalet is situated right next to the chicken run housing two extremely loud cockerels who crow from 4am in summer months. It is also separated by a thin wall from the section containing the pool pump which was also very noisy. Heavy rainfall also makes a lot of noise on the chalet roof so if you need a good nights sleep take ear plugs.

The breakfast provided was white plastic wrapped bread and basic cereal with packs of jam and butter in the fridge.

The only place it was possible to obtain the wifi signal was sitting in the garden outside the study of the main house (not practical to use in the rain).

If too many electric appliances are used simultaneously when the pool heater is also running the power will cut out.

Despite booking for two stays at the same time there was no record of my booking for the second period. Fortunately I had decided to cancel so this wasnt a problem in the end.

If you stay in the main house be aware that the guest rooms share a bathroom and the kichenette area.

We had booked the 3 rooms at Southern Wood, to attend a family Christening. We had travelled 400 miles, with an email confirming the booking, from 'Dave' only to find on our arrival, no 'Dave' and someone else in our rooms - he'd obviously got a better offer - be aware!

Very nice stay in the family lodge. All the comforts of home, very relaxing in very pleasant surroundings. close to local shops, restaurants and leisure centre. was offered the cooked breakfast but declined as would have been far too much for us to eat so was very happy with the cereal and toast provided in our room. Dave was extremely friendly and helpful and even arrange a great night out at a Elvis tribute night. Just a shame we were not here a week or so earlier to go to the Micheal Jackson tribute night. Thanks for a very warm and friendly welcome into your home. ELVIS Lives in Didcot!!!!!

When I rang to enquire about booking a room for Two nights, I was told by the owner (Dave) that he was fully booked for the dates I wanted. He said that he would let me have a log cabin at the same price, which he didn't normally let out (£35 a night). This was at the rear of the property and totally independent to the main building. When I arrived at 1pm, there was no one home, so I rang him on his phone and he came within ten minutes.
I stay in a lot of B+B's and it always amazes me that the proprioters never ask for any cash on arrival and are generally very trusting people. Dave fit into this category.
He showed me to the cabin which was very impressive, private and spotless. It was kitted out with tea and coffee making facilities and a toaster and cereals. It was also en suite.
On the 2nd day, i offered to square up the bill (not to Dave!) and he asked if I would like a breakfast the next morning. I was going walking and so I took up his offer. He warned me that it was going to be a 'large' breakfast and he would bring it across to the cabin the next morning.
When it came, I was thinking long and hard as to whether to cancel my day's walking -- it was HUGE! i can honestly say that it was the best breakfast that I'd ever had.
I never ate another thing that day. A perfect ending to a perfect stay from a perfect host. I will not hesitate to ring Dave for another stay when next in the area.

Room Tip: The log cabin overlooked a private swimming pool.

The room was decorated and equipped to an extremely high standard - much more what I would expect from a high rated hotel rather than a town B&B. The owners were fantastic and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We'll definitely be returning to Southernwood next time we're in Didcot!
