“A Home From Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

I've stayed with Penny and Peter on a regular weekly basis these last couple of years. I would best describe it as a home from home.
When you are away from home on business, as regular as I am, you need to be able to relax and here I am able to do that.
You are always, and I mean always, guaranteed a warm welcome nothing is too much trouble. The rates are phenomenal for the rooms and service you get. I always try to stay in "the cabin" which is located in the back garden away from the bungalow. Don't assume this is 2nd class far from it. The Shed as it is affectionately known as is first rate. The Penthouse Suite located in the bungalow comes with its own lounge, that's where the paying guests stay, again not to be missed. You can chat and put to right all the problems in the world with Pete over breakfast is a always a welcoming time. From the freshly laid eggs by the chickens, to the fried bread which isn't to be missed. The fried bread is something I would whole heartedly recommend.
Unfortunately my time at Penny's B&B has come to an end, due to early retirement its somewhere I will miss in my weekly diary. If I am in the vicinity in the future I will be booking in here. You will not be disappointed.

We weren't at all sure about this B&B when we booked. The pictures didn't put it in the best light and we only had a handful of reviews to go on. Fortunately we weren't disappointed. Although the house is unusual in appearance it conceals a cosy and well-appointed interior.

We stayed in the room attached to the house (there is also a cabin in the garden) which consisted of separate bedroom, lounge and bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy, and there was also a fridge with milk for coffee and tea. I have to admit that I initially felt a bit close to the owners' living area but in fact you are separated by two doors, one either side of the entrance hallway, giving good privacy.

The bed was very comfortable, although a little smaller than we are used to but we both had a reasonable night's sleep. The bathroom was spotless and had an excellent power shower. The lounge had two comfy chairs and a TV, all clean and tidy, not that we spent much time in there.

Breakfast was served in the owners' beautiful open plan lounge/diner/kitchen area which was spacious and light. We we given all sorts of food choices, in fact far more than a normal B&B and it felt more like a hotel in terrms of choice and quality. The owners were very chatty and couldn't do enough for us.

All in all, a lovely B&B and reasonably priced too. Hotels are almost non-existent in Didcot but no one in their right mind should choose the TravelLodge over this. We'd definitely stay again.

Thanked my lucky stars for Tripadvisor. Had an unexpected journey to Didcot 2 days ago, and found Penny's Bed and Breakfast. By great luck The Cabin was available. This is a separate wooden building of great charm in the garden, a big garden. Two single beds and comfortable chairs. Very nice bathroom with a great shower. Slept very well. No noise at all. Penny's breakfast was everything you could wish for. Lovely people. Very, very friendly. Felt most welcome. Great value for money - extremely fair. Would absolutely definitely stay there again. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Recommend The Cabin

Have stayed with Penny and Peter several times whilst on railway tours, they are super people and the cabin is fantastic. Everything is very welcoming, I hope to visit again in the near future

We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be returning. Extremely well appointed and lovely to have our own lounge area with fridge and fresh milk. Would highly recommend to everyone. Penny and Peter made our stay very enjoyable and are lovely people.

Having stayed for one night on the way to Poole and one night on the way back last year, we knew where we'd be staying for our visit to Oxfordshire this year. We had 5 lovely nights with Penny and Peter visiting Oxford, Poole, Henley and Blenheim Palace and returning to the home comfort of this lovely place each evening. It was more like staying with friends as both Penny and Peter are friendly and very easy to talk to. Despite our protests that she need not clean every day, Penny made sure that the room was tidied every day and the bed clothes were changed after a couple of days. You have to try a boiled egg freshly gathered from the chicken coop. There's no taste like it! I cannot recommend them highly enough and at £45 per night it's great value too.

My wife and I needed overnight accommodation so we could attend a concert at the Cornerstone Centre Didcot, and are very glad we found Penny's. It's about 15 minutes walk from the town centre and the facilities are excellent. We had a very clean, comfortable, well-equipped double room with own bathroom, small sitting room and its own private entrance - so no problem about returning late after the concert. The owners, Penny and Pete, are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. With a very good breakfast and very reasonable rates we wish we could find somewhere like Penny's in every town we stay in.
