I had a great Friday at Chessington with a friend. Having grown up nearby I remember going as special treats when growing up & being amazed by it all (am now in 30s). The old favourites - the Dragon boat & Black Buccaneer were as fun as ever but there is no doubt looking tired. The revamped bits of the park & particularly the Kobra & Monkey Hangers were brilliant. As others have said the Rameses & Runaway Train are closed which is a shame. The only ride with a big queue was the vampire so we didn't bother & found we didn't wait longer than 10 minutes for anything else. We took a picnic so can't comment on the food but agree with others the toilets were in need of serious attention. One thing that really stood out was how professional & polite the staff were. Every time we got on /off a ride we were asked if we were having a nice time etc & they really seemed to be enjoying their jobs. It is an expensive day bit we got BOGOF using sw trains voucher which is well worth doing.

Our first trip to Chessington World of Adventures and we had a fantastic time.

Pitched at a level that fits between the kids rides at Gulliver's World and the thrills of Alton Towers, there are only 2 rides that our 7yr old was too short for (Rattlesnake and the infamous Rameses Revenge (which was being dismantled)), so we had the the run of the place without worrying about him waiting around while our 9yr old went on the big rides.

There's a great mix of rides at Chessington, from the sedate to the speedy, with Vampire and Dragon's Fury being our favourites, although the new Zoofari adventure was also great fun. Its also well planned out, with all of the rides close to each other and easy to find/access.

The staff were welcoming and courteous, with everyone willing to offer helpful advice and directions if needed.

The most important thing is what our kids thought of the place and they both loved it, preferring it to Alton Towers, which is the theme park we usually visit. Unfortunately, its a lot further away than Alton Towers, so sadly we wont be regular visitors.

We visited as a family with 2 young children (3 months and 2 and a half years old). Our 2 year old is just over 90 cms (children under 90cms are free of charge) so there were a total of 18 rides for him to choose from and as it was his first theme park experience, he was over the moon! All the rides he was able to go on were quite spread out though so we did a lot of walking. Most activities and rides are outside so you should be prepared for all weathers (it rained on the day we visited). In addition to the theme park there's also the zoo, which has over 1,000 animals. I'd like to visit again when our eldest is a little older and can enjoy more of the rides. There is so much to do, we didn't get a chance to do most of it in a single day trip (there is a resort hotel if you want a longer stay). Read up on the additional services available from Adventurers Services (AS) before you visit. There's also an upgrade ongoing in 2013/2014 so check their website for rides affected. Visited chessington yesterday with friend and 2 3.5 year olds, used pre school deal bought in advance so great value for a full day out! It was not busy as most schools still at work so got round 20 rides. Children especially enjoyed bubble works, jungle bus and flying elephants. Animals seemed happy and was exciting to see the tiger feeding time, shame there was no sealion show on however. Overall recommend as a great day out of season with pre schoolers lots for 90cm plus children to ride on, not lots for real thrill series's however!

We booked a weekend deal including hotel and two day's park entrance. We did wonder whether there would be enough for two days, but in the end it was just right as we left a little early on the first day to enjoy the pool at the hotel. There were quite a few rides the kids couldn't go on, being just under the 1.2m height restriction (which seemed overly strict to us given they had been on essentially the same rides at Alton Towers - particularly the log flume). Also disappointingly the Runaway Mine Train was not working, and that would have been one of the rides they could have gone on. There was no mention of this being out of action at the gate, just another of the rides (Rameses Revenge, a bit like Ripsaw at Alton Towers). Best rides for our 5 year olds were Vampyre (by far the best - really good for 1.1m height restriction!), Tomb Raider (?) where you shoot stuff with lasers - brilliant fun - and Zufari. They also enjoyed the climbing wall, trampolines etc. Food was ok, but avoid the Mexican place - my husband and I both had beef chilli nachos - the beef chilli was horrible (wouldn't feed it to a dog) and we were both ill afterwards. The kids had chicken nachos but the chicken was horribly over-processed and tasted bizarre. Total waste of £25! The fried chicken place is good, tho. I'm not sure whether we'll go again - maybe in a few years when they can do the 1.4m height restricted rides. It's a nice, clean park, though, with lots of shade to escape the sun when queueing.
