We won a free weekend to stay at the Millstone and what a great weekend we had.
The service the staff and above all the food was out of this world. Without doubt ,this is one of the best Hotels we have stayed in. Anybody wanting to eat in their restaurant it is highly recommended. Food superb.

Was treated to a night at the MIllstone as a late valentines present from my hubby, and arrived late afternoon, to a nice cosy atmosphere, very friendly staff, lovely room, four poster bed and all the amenities that I wasn't expecting, bathrobe, toiletries, flat screen telly, etc....... after pre dinner drinks we were served Champagne and canapes, food was excellent! A good night's rest, with the added bonus of waking up to Mellor covered in Snow! very romantic! after a hearty breakfast we set off home, only half an hour away, and realised we have found a nice little bolthole on our doorstep, already planning Sunday lunch there in the next couple of weeks :)

Stayed for one night with my partner for Valentines night. Check in was very efficient and we were soon in our room which was very comfortable with all the necessary extra bits you could need. Only slight downside was that the bathroom smelt a bit musty and was cold. We switched the heated towel rail on and left the bathroom door open while we went for a drink and it was much improved on our return.

The bar was very busy with people eating and there was only a small lounge area to sit in, but very cosy. A fair selection of drinks, but only Carlsberg lager which is not to my partners taste.

We had booked dinner in the restaurant and weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was efficient and friendly.

As this was a special treat, we requested a late check out which was no problem and we also had breakfast in bed. I don't think that this is something they do very often as everything came separately, and took three goes to deliver, but the food was hot and tasty.

In summary, a friendly atmosphere, good food and comfortable surroundings. The chef patron was always on hand to see things were running smoothly and came over specially when we were checking out and asked if everything had been OK for us. Nice touch.

We did not stay, but I am a fan of Shire Hotels and am sure the rooms will be fine.

We came for Dinner in the bar and it was wonderful, the menus were a sensible size and the choice balanced the service professional yet relaxed and warm.

For our main course we had Sea Bass on a bed of risotto and shrimps with wilted spinach. The risotto was cooked to perfection, the crunch and the flavour was superb.
It is the little things that count, the sauce was cooked to perfection just the right amount, to much and it detracts from the rest of the dish.

Be assured this establishment has trained its team well and I would make a detour to eat here again and I would be inclined to stay and really enjoy this establishment and dine in the main restaurant.

Thanks to Anson and his staff we had a wonderful time at our son's wedding held recently at the Millstone. The service was excellent, the bedrooms were extremely comfortable and Anson's general friendliness and helpfulness was fantastic. Above all though, his food was amazing!

The only issue was the bottleneck between the function room and the bar, especially when there were elderly or disabled guests around. Staff though were always on hand to help.

Stayed at the Millstone for 2 nights last month whilst attending a wedding at Salmesbury Hall (go and have a look, it's an amazing place!). We arrived around 9pm after a tiring drive up the M6, I rang to say we would be arriving later than planned due to heavy traffic, I spoke to the owner himself who said it would not be a problem and that if we were late for restaurant service it would be no problem for them to russle something up for us - how nice!

The bar was jam-packed with locals when we got there, seemed mostly like a nice crowd. We had a room in the same building on the top floor, I was concerned that we might hear a bit of noise from the bar, but it was quiet all the way up the stairs! The room was very cosy and homely, with plenty of storage space, comfy armchair etc. We immediately felt at ease here. My only gripes would be that we would have preferred a kingsize bed considering the price of the room, also there was no blind in the bathroom which overlooked the main street through the village, and all could be seen with the light on!!!

Went downstairs just in time for dinner, the menu was extensive, with great quality local food. The portions were huge! We are very fussy when it comes to food, and we could not fault our dishes at all. Breakfast was just perfect , with a lovely selection of cereals, juices, pastries etc to choose from before having a cooked breakfast.

The staff here were all great, very friendly and helpful.

The village of Mellor is nice, very quiet and a great place to stay to get away from it all.

We would not hesitate to return to the Millstone, we really enjoyed our stay here.

Travelling up from London, we recently stayed here 2 nights, to attend a friends wedding at Samlesbury Hall, 10 mins down the road.
We arrived in time for dinner and had a really excellent meal, taking advantage of their summer offer of a complimentory glass of champagne and canapes to add. The food is obviously taken seriously at The millstone and we enjoyed every course eaten in their lovely, cosy dining area: lots of wood, comfy seats and a warm ambience. Wine was excellent, staff very helpful.

Our bedrooms were in a sep. buliding opposite the main building. Noticed a slightly musty smell on entrance, but other than that had no real complaints. The rooms were pretty clean with a spacious bathroom and there was a complimentary basket of organic treats and newspaper in the morning - all vey nice touches.
Breakfast in the morning was also very good - we had the kippers and full english which were tasty and cooked with skill.

At around £100 a night, I would say it was a tad on the expensive side, but because the food was so good, this is less of a sting.
I would recommend for the same reason: that the food was so good.
