We went here to fill in time before our ferry after a weekend at the IOW Festival and we weren't too sure what to expect. We had a wonderful visit (so good we almost missed our boat!); there is a story for every monkey and bird at this haven, all of which seem really well cared for by the lovely owners. We chatted to the founder, who has built the sanctuary with the help of his son. What a lovely guy! He was really interesting to speak to and passionate about the animals he cares for. This place offers a home to monkeys and birds that have nowhere else to go and would otherwise be euthanased as they are considered "rejects" by zoos etc. The monkeys provided plenty of entertainment in their clean and spacious enclosures and we really enjoyed watching them. The owl stories are just as interesting and the birds are beautiful to see.
The haven is beatifully designed , spotlessly clean and very well laid out - great for pushchairs and wheelchair users, with wide walkways and lovely landscaping. There is a good cafe and a gift shop, excellent toilet and baby changing facilities as well as a children's play area. New enclosures are currently being built as there is a waiting list of monkeys needing to be rehomed, but the building work doesn't detract from the experience as it is well separated from the current attractions. We will definitely visit again next time we are on the island - we are keen to see how the haven develops. If you are considering visiting animal attractions on the island please don't miss this one.
