Best Western City Hotel Goderie
Ranked #3 of 5 Hotels in Roosendaal
Reviewed February 20, 2014

Sometimes a friendly hotel can really get you out of a pickle: missed last train to Belgium, stranded in Roosendaal. This hotel is slap bang across from the station and was willing to take a phone booking on the off-chance I wouldn't show up. Family feel. Nice welcome by owner (?). Extremely helpful. Nice staff anyway. Rooms quite pricey (€ 110) for a Best Western in a sleepy place like Roosendaal. And for a walk-in… Would have paid less for same quality in Amsterdam (yes, I checked). Breakfast (€25) not included - got it for half price. Nice gesture, still overpriced for what it is. But what a room! Recently renovated (118) on first floor. No view though. Very quiet. White, slightly old-fashioned institutional feel. Really large! Could do with a bit more decoration. But: a single bed plus a double, toilet separate, large bathroom, working area with large-ish TV. Free WiFi throughout. Excellent bed. Breakfast in comfortable setting (I was reasonably late), but quite minimal. Hardly any service as new staff member was being trained. Finished last three rolls, no new ones were brought out despite more customers. Bit disappointing as breakfast experience.... Good hotel for short stop.

Room Tip: Ask for the newly renovated rooms, especially if you like a bit of quiet.

Nice hotel , 30 seconds from the railway station in the centre of roosendaal . Ideal location for walking into town centre approx 10 minutes . Nice hotel , clean rooms ,free wifi throughout the hotel . Tea and coffee making facilities in room . Staff very nice really friendly especially the girl on reception think she was called Kirsty . Stayed here while attending a family funeral in roosendaal so didn't eat at the hotel . Will definitely stay here again hopefully in happier circumstances .

Room Tip: Room facing railway station was good for watching the hundereds of commuters on their bikes in the m...

All this is based on my perception.

Location is good - in front of railway station.
Breakfast is standard quality.

I understand that the hotel was in progress of renovation (at least the hallway). But the room was is bad shape. (see pictures)
On top - the build in hair dryer was broken. Even after 2 times reporting this to reception there was apparently no way to get replacement (not even mobile one).

Again, maybe all rooms have been refurbished until now.
I recommend to ASK before booking for a NEW room

Room Tip: Ask for new room before booking

Stayed here for a weekend in May, the rooms were a bit dated but they are doing them up. Very convenient as it is right across from the train station. Relaxed kind of hotel, the receptionist was not very friendly on arrival, he looked like he was going to sleep :) Wifi didnt work too well.

Room Tip: We were at the front and the room was not noisy.

This hotel is not good at getting the small detail things right, the things that make your stay more relaxed and hustle free, this is important to me as my stay was a business trip, I expect to arrive, be greeted, quickly allocated a room, and after a long day with travelling crash out in my room. No soap in my room, no shampoo, no shower gel, only discovered on running my arrive bath. Hassles over paying the bill even though I had book via Otel.com and had my prepaid voucher, when I booked out the Hotel tried to persuade me to pay the bill for my room directly to them, claiming they could not invoice Otel via the details on the documents they had received from Otel.
I declined the option of paying twice, and asked the hotel to sort it out with Best Western.
As my confidence in the hotel was low, I had all of my meals including my breakfast at the “Central Hotel” across the square where I had eaten before, in order to de risk my dining experience.
The eating at the Central Hotel was delightful, and the cost was reasonable.
If you are staying at this hotel keep it simple and only expect to rest your head, go elsewhere for anything else, rooms are clean, tidy and quite.

A 2 minute walk from the train station, late arrival, night porter let me in & got me a refreshment from the bar even though it was closed. Hotel has an elevator. Beds were fine, WiFi was unfortunately offline.
I'd recommend the breakfast too. Espresso on demand. Friendly staff.
