This place is a great find offering traditional Swiss inn food at (by Swiss standards) reasonable prices. Try the Cordon Bleu which comes with a very ample plate of chips and help-yourself salad and wash it down with a large, cold Swiss beer and get change from 30 francs. Or for even better value try the fixed price menu which changes daily. I am sure the do sweets but the portions sizes have always defeated me and never got that far.
The location is great on the platform at Spiez station so you can break a train journey to Interlaken, Bern, Brig or Kandersteg and arrive at your destination well fed!

This was one of the only places we've been where it seemed to be all locals. Don't be put off by the "buffet" part...it's only the (very good) salad that is buffet style. (Beets, corn, cukes. Lentils. Tomato. Etc.

They had several set meals that included both soup and salad buffet... we had noodles w mushroom sauce and veggies --- and pork in sauce w excellent mashed potatoes . Got the small size of each and it was a LOT of food. Prices were 13 and 14.50 chf.

5 stars for the bargain prices...and 4 stars for the good traditional food. Service was patient and kind. Oh.. and a nce little view as well. Not bad for train station food!!

The town of Spiez is well spread out and is basically on a hill side.
If you do not have a car and are not so young or fit you can
of course use taxis (minimum CHF 12.00 ).We stayed near
the station for 4 nights and used the Bahnhoffbuffet twice.
We both had a very good steak (CHF 30) on one night and
on the other occasion my wife had the fish and I had an Asian
meal.My meal was not so good since it was deep fried ,which
I am not so happy with. The staff were very friendly, and efficient.
The menus were partially printed in English.Overall good value
for money.
If you do wish to minimise your meal expenses I suggest you
use either the CO-OP or Migros .Self service restaurants.

Go for the Riesen Cordon Bleure Schweinfliesch (I cannot guarantie the spelling but you get my drift) as long as you like pork. It is huge, filling and at CHf 24 reasonably priced. You must be hungry to eat it all including the chips and salad.
Wine at CHf 20 for 500 mL is normal in a restaurant with beer around CHf 5.per bottle.
Lunchtime looks like a real deal with 4 different set menus of around CHf 15.
Not gourmet food but filling and tasty.
