“Customer Service??”
Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

Arrived in Sarria after 22km from Triacastela on the Camino. We were looking forward to a nice 3-star hotel after several barely 2-star stops after Ponferrada. Wow, what a disappointment from the moment we walked in. Our hotel voucher indicated half board, but confusingly also said breakfast included at the top. The front desk staff refused to believe that half board on the bottom of the page actually meant breakfast and dinner and kept referring to the breakfast included note at the top. I brought a separate dinner meal voucher down to the front desk after I had retrieved it from my suitcase and the clerk told me it wasn't her problem. I am dealing with my tour company on the voucher issue, but I have never dealt with such arrogance at a hotel in my life. The room is fine. The water coming from the taps is brown. I can't say anything about the meals yet, but I sure wouldn't stay here if I hadn't already paid for it months ago.

A group of us started the Camino walk from here. It was a lovely, big hotel for such a small town. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and more than happy to take lots of photos with different cameras of us setting off! The breakfast buffet was superb too. It was also a great location, close to lovely restaurants and very close to the Camino trail.

We stayed in Vigo at the excellent associate hotel. So coming to Sarria we expected similar service and quality. We were severely disappointed and to make it worse it was more expensive in Sarria.....I guess lack of decent competition has made the management lazy and with a steady stream of "Camino-ites" why worry. Our room was very dated....the bathroom was appalling for the price we paid. you had a small gap to step between the bidet and the toilet and step over the bathnsice while avoiding the shower screen....OK for the nimble. The doors have old locks and there is constant door banging at all hours. The walls are thin....we could hear the guest next door on her mobile phone loud and clear......also the next door snorer. I wouldnt recommend this and it let's down the standard set by the excellent Carries in Vigo.

Very good hotel, food and service. It was cheaper than a Peregrino Albergue and easier to book. The daily menu is a bargain, even reccomended by the local people. The rooms were very clean and spacious with good pillows and linens. Lots of small details that show attention to customer satisfaction.

Very nice 2-day stay. We enjoyed the great location, very good food in the cafeteria, and pleasant staff. Our problem was we don't speak Spanish so we probably made it harder for them to give us even better service. I highly recommend this hotel.

The biggest hotel in Sarria is always a good night's sleep before (or along the way of) the Camino Frances. The big rooms and even bigger bathrooms are always clean and well equipped. Everyone is always helpful, although checking in can take some time at busy periods. Breakfast is good value, dinner isn't so much so since there are many restaurants serving better local cuisine at lower prices within a short walking distance. A short walk from both train and bus stations makes the hotel ideal as a starting point for the Camino for those after a Compostela, secure parking (chargeable) is also good for those driving to Sarria to leave their vehicle at hotel and start the walk.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of corridor if noise is an issue. Surface car park at the hotel is free an...
