“Wonderful lunch in a very relaxed and comfortable restaurant”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This restaurant is not in a prominent location, but is certainly worth finding. We had the most wonderful lunch here, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Whilst it was very busy, the ebb & flow of conversation from the different tables really added to the relaxed and convivial atmosphere; and the service was attentive and informative.
The menu was more fish orientated, but not exclusively - we shared the Arroz Negro which is a rice dish where the rice is dyed black with squid ink - It was delicious. The whole experience was very satisfying, and we would welcome the opportunity to return and sample the other delights on the menu.
Apart from the excellent food, two other things also impressed, being the wine selection we were recommended that went so well with the meal; and the discerning layout of the restaurant. There were a number of families in the restaurant, and the proprietors are to be congratulated on creating a truly impressive gastronomic experience where adults, families and children seem to blend in so well.

“The back streets are best”
Reviewed July 28, 2012 via mobile

The best restaurants in holiday towns are often in the back streets, especially in countries where good eating is regarded as an essential part of a holiday. There are several such in L'Escala's checkerboard of narrow lanes behind the old town, but this place is really excellent. No sea view, unless like us you are lucky enough to land the corner table by the window, but who's looking at the sea, let alone paying for it? A rabbit, cuttlefish and snail stew, rich and deeply flavoured, bacalao in a fruity and aromatic sauce involving pine nuts and raisins, followed by mato, a soft goat cheese, drizzled with honey (not money as the English menu wittily suggests) and more of those pine nuts. A deeply satisfying lunch, friendly service, calm and relaxed atmosphere punctuated only by the sound of clacking cutlery, clinking wine glasses, and people enjoying good food. Book, or get there early (i.e. before 1.30) - it fills up, and rightly so.

“Wonderful local atmosphere, excellent fish dishes”
Reviewed April 28, 2012 via mobile

This is an excellent locals restaurant, which is set back in the streets behind the seafront. We were lucky to get a table for lunch, just ahead of the prebooked locals who packed in at 2pm. The Hake with Asparagus and Clams was superb, as was all the seafood. Pleasant service, reasonably priced
