“Warm & friendly welcome......Great location !!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

The hotel is only 15 mins taxi ride out of Reus airport & just outside Salou. The staff are mainly English speaking and are very friendly and helpful. The pool is ok, but why use it when you have miles of golden beach just on your door step. Some of the hotel features are a bit "querky", in our room we found our kitchen inside a wardrobe. But it did have everything we needed eg: a fridge and kettle. The hotels entertainment is what you would expect, some good some indifferent.
There was no TV in our room, which surprisingly we did not miss. But they are available to hire, as well as the AC which was a must. There is a kids area was kids TV and games. Breakfast was also available for 5 euros as well as evening meals. We went out to eat every night at one of the mainly restaurants. There is a supermarket just up to road for those of you who wish to top up your fridge with some beers etc. The local bus service is cheap and regular, we used it to go into Salou and it only cost 3.40 euros. All in all we had a great time BUT the one thing that lets this hotel down are the BEDS they are SOFT & LUMPY and need replacing.

Myself, my girlfriend, our two year old daughter and my mother in law stayed in the Esmerelda from the 25th of August til the 9th of September 2013. Before we arrived we had emailed the apartments to see if we could upgrade to a one bedroom instead of the studio we had booked, the replies we got from the staff were pleasant and very helpful and we were able to upgrade without any difficulty. The staff at the Esmerelda were all pleasant and friendly throughout our stay, the hotel itself was clean and it also had a kids corner full of toys which our daughter loved. The rooms were large and the kitchen was well stocked although the appliances were a little dated. The pool area was clean and kept tidy, although the beach was so close we never used the pool itself. My girlfriend and I stayed in the Esmerelda 4 years ago so we knew the location was a walk into Salou and Cambrills but even with our daughter in tow we could make it into Salou in 30 minutes along the beach front. The buses are frequent and cheap so there is no need to walk if you dont feel like it, though buses can at times get crowded especially with buggies or luggage. There is entertainment every night apart from a Sunday, we had a room with a pool view and we didnt hear a single thing from the bar area in the whole 2 weeks we were there, my mother in law's room was on the bar side and she heard a few things on some nights but nothing that kept her awake. The only downsides of the apartments were 1). The walls are very thin so other children running along the corridors and slamming doors and shouting at each other at 12pm sometimes woke our daughter. 2) Our air conditioning system broke on our 6th day and after 3 days of asking someone was sent to our room to fix it, the man could not fix it so for the rest of our holiday we had to purchase a fan for our daughters room to keep her cool at night and the apartments provided us with a fan for our bedroom. The fans did little to cool the apartment so we spent alot of time in my mother in law's room. All in all the Esmerelda is a great place to use as a base for your holiday and although staff could not help us with our a/c issue they are all extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Free WiFi reaches the rooms at the front of the hotel, if you plan to use it ask for a room there.

My wife and i have just had a brilliant week relaxing in Cambrils in our clean and roomy apartment 407 in Esmerelda and to say the staff were all extremly friendly and helpful is an understatement and the food & service were good and plentyful. if you want an English breakfast you may need to ask as the continental is ready set out but they willingly do it if asked and it is all good fayre! The area has everything from miles of clean beaches with warm blue sea where we swam & sunbathed on the uncrowded sands. We took a stroll to Salou that takes about an hour along the wide traffic free tiled promenade with its fountains & palm trees visiting the varied shops, bars and ice cream parlours and after visiting the lively shopping centre returning by bus or road train. In the other direction 3 miles brings you to the port of Cambrils with its sleepy harbour and lively market days. We also visited the fantastic Porta Ventura which rivals Disney world for size & entertainment from stunning live shows to unique rides and eating places that you can spend a whole day in and not see everything! We had a brilliant time and we are sure you will too! Cheers Mark & liz

Room Tip: If you want anything just ask the friendly staff and you will find them extremely helpful!

First impressions are the building could do with a lick of paint but once inside it has a nice reception and bar area, friendly reception lady went through all the basics of having to pay tourist tax (think this was 7€ for the family for the duration of the stay) 50€ deposit which was fine as I wasnt planning on wreaking the place so knew I would get it back (this can also be paid in £ to save you being stuck with 50€ at the end of your holiday) and 10€ for the a.c remote all of which I know about after reading previous reviews.
We booked a 2 bedroom room which was very spacious, clean and adequately supplied with pots pans and plates, beds were comfy enough my only bug bear was a random noise coming from the a.c unit but it was situated in the hall way so didnt keep us awake.
We had room 416 faces the beach and has sun in the afternoon.
We booked half board breakfast was nice but continental so the usual toast, cereal, pastries t and coffee, ham, cheese and jam but was fresh and tasty.
Evening meal you was given a choice of 3 starters, mains and desert, the menu had some strange concoctions but always managed to find something even with 2 fussy children to feed. The russian waiter in the evening was always very friendly as was the very nice gentleman who sorted breakfast in the mornings.
Friends who were staying with us had a few problems with the lock to their room and a light that was out, all seen to quickly and without fuss.
As the beach is so close the pool is very quiet with loads of sun loungers to choose from.
excellant location, quiet area, entertainment in hotel finishes at midnight so was never kept up too late with the noise, entertainment was mainly singers or tribute acts.
I woukd recommend hiring a bike from accross the road (not the hotel) and visiting cambrils as its a lovely beach, there is a cycle path from cambrils to salou along the promanade it cost us 18€ for a family of 4 for 4 hours bargain!
You will love this hotel if you are looking for cheap basic friendly accommodation you will hate it if you are looking for 5 star.
We had a brilliant time and would return again no problem.
would also look at booking a private transfer from england before travelling we paid £60 return, hotel quotes 95€ each way and the bus is 12€ each but you are one of the last drop offs and takes well over an hour. Bus to salou is 1.65£ each way.

No regrets. Stayed in August 2013 for 2 weeks in room 207 facing nice olive tree and palm tree. Yes, there is a railway line but who cares as most of the day we were at beach that is 50 meters away and eves we spent in Cambrils, Salou or at Esmeralda's bar terrace enjoying nice entertaiment.
Apartment is a bit dated, but again, you are there for week or two, not for life.
When we arrived it was all clean. Maintenance ladies changed our sheets 3 times, towels 4 times during our stay and all we had to do is asked them.
All of the staff, reception, bar, maintenance is really nice and polite.
We will be coming back.

We booked this trip as a last minute holiday as a couple with 4 'children' ranging from 11 to 22. I must admit I was a bit worried by some of the reviews but was so pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel is definitely cheap and cheerful but the apartments are clean, air conditioned and have a very unusual kitchen area inside a wardrobe door, straight from the 1970s, really quaint but had everything you need for a holiday in the sun.

The bar was well stocked and friendly, the teenagers loved the burgers and the cocktails were fab too. The pool is small but fine for this size of place. The staff are lovely and the entertainment was good fun, very cheesy but in a good way.

The location is second to none, right across the road from the huge beach which is beautifully maintained, warm sea we stayed there most evenings til 7pm swimming and playing in the sea. The supermarket 2 minutes along the road had fresh bread baked every morning and plenty of selection for basic meals. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance and lots of choice in Cambrils which is a bus ride away or a half hour walk.

All in all this was an unexpectedly great holiday and we all had a fantastic time, I would recommend it and would definitely go back again. If you are looking for 5 star luxury this is not the place for you but if you want a cheap, friendly place in a great location then choose this.

Since I was 7 ( now 20 )we have stayed here every time we have visited Spain since it change to sunset from thomsons ( I think) it was hard to find and book.
The staff are fantastic! Really nice keep the bar open after hours to have a chat. Great entertainment and great for children as the pool is not massive and easy viewing from the bar . Its location is quiet and opposite the beach and a shop is pretty much next door for all food and water also alot of gift shops definitely visot the muddy duck !! Classic pub grub about a 2/3 minute walk away .. a short walk into cambrills and salou center a very nice walk up to port aventura. Room are very basic good if you dont plan to spend much time in the room .. the atmosphere is the best part of the hotel. They make you feel very welcome and you leave feeling youve made friends
