Poor service. Dirty glasses in restaurant (we asked to change few times but always were getting dirty glasses). We were on wedding trip and wanted to stay here because of Puerto Aventura for 2 days and booked one big bed but received two separate. When asked to change were told that it is our problem and they don't care what we booked.

Room tip: Not suitable for romantic trip

First things, first. This does look like the pictures. The main areas of the hotel are lovely just like the pictures. The rooms are also like the pictures but they are smaller than expected, but no big deal. My first reactions of the hotel and my room together were very positive. We arrived fairly late so it was only going to be a dinner and sleep day.

Dinner is in lovely surroundings and it is pretty choatic, it isn't laid so well so you are struggling to get anywhere. This makes it a very difficult process to get your food. Food itself is the usual buffet style, it's all meat based so vegetarians are not really catered for. The food is pretty bland and boring and eating it for 7 days would be my worst nightmare but it's perfectly edible so should suit lots. The labels have pictures of animals to suggest what meat it is which I liked. Also you can buy a bottle of wine and store it in the fridge for the following night. Breakfast is a very similar choatic but decent experience.

That's pretty much the positives, and so far it seems reasonable considering the bargain price of this hotel. I don't often take a lot of stock in reviews where people complain about service, but this place is truly appalling. The staff collectively are awful, in every department each one is miserable with a huge chip on the shoulder. Expect your change to be chucked at back at you, expect no service, and expect them to argue with you.

I had an argument where the barman refused to give a glass with my purchased drink, not for any reason other he had decided he didn't want to. I eventually took to videoing him yelling at people and saying to him I will show his manager before he changed his tune. The other staff when I asked them for help turned around and said "not my problem". Even the manager couldn't care. I can't fully describe how bad this guy was. The next day I spoke to his manager (only my second time I have ever complained about a worker) and like a child this guy would be nice when his manager was there.

I went in October, the outside temperature was 25 degrees centigrade during the day. The hotel says it has air conditioning but this was broken when we arrived. The next day we asked about it and told it would be fixed, we asked the next day and was told it would be fixed on that day. We asked the next day and were told that they have decided not to fix the air conditioner as a week later the weather would start to cool. At this point I mentioned our room is hitting temperatures of 30-35 degrees centigrade, and maybe they have fans or some suggestions - the guy basically said "tough, not my job".

Finally, bugs in the room. Me and my family have been bitten as badly as any stay. After a few days we asked them to fully change all the sheets but the bites persisted, I've been in the UK a week and all the bites are now oozing for me and my 2 young kids.

We also had ants in the room, which being a hot country does happen. But it was due to food bits that were not cleaned up from the previous guest.

Beach front location is also good. Parking is a nightmare.

So on balance, the hotel looks great, food is passable and it's super cheap. Would I go again? not a chance. Sometimes when you buy cheap you realise why it's cheap.

So we had a 7 day stay at this hotel. It will be easier if I just lost the good and bad points as this post is gonna be long .. Strap in .. Get a coffee and continue reading ...

Good points

The hotel is modern looking. The bedroom (although a little small) is nice. Very comfortable beds (hold that thought on beds). The resturant is big and spacious. More about the food later. The hotel room has a small fridge in it.The rooms are cleaned daily and the the balconies are big and come with two chairs and a table. There is an adequate TV in the bedroom which does allow HDMI input (I used my iPad on it)!

Bad points

Where do I begin. It may be easier in bullet point. To start with, let me make this clear. There is no to very little customer service at this hotel. You will not see a smile from most of the staff here.

The air conditioning wasn’t working on the Sunday we checked in. Spoke to receptionist who advised it was broken and will be fixed on Monday. Fast forward to Tuesday and the same receptionist says “it won’t be turned on. It’s going stay off and there are no fans you can use”.

The barman (Jose) was very creepy. Winking and blowing kisses at the women buying drinks. Also the same barman refused to give us two cups with ice for our cokes that we bought on premises. We went to complain at reception and was told by the receptionist “I’m not getting involved”! In the end, Jose was given a few choice words and he handed over the cups and ice.

Nina, one of the waitress’s was very rude and abrupt. For the evening buffet you have to que up and have you reservation card with you to show what you’re entitled to (B&B, half board, full board). She snatched them of me and my friends family, mumbled something and took us to the back of the resturant, pushed two tables together, threw the cards on the table and walked off. There are two Nina’s that work there. One is short, pleasant and lovely. The other is the abrupt mean one.

Ok. The food. Breakfast is general breakfast stuff, cheese, bread, eggs etc etc. No many vegetarian options but you can make do. The evening meal. Well, you will be lucky to find anything vegetarian apart from salad and chips. On one night there was tomato pasta, but then the other nights they had shoved meat in it. We enquires about the deserts to see if any of them are suitable for vegetarians. Yep, you guessed it, nope. I asked the chef and he just shrugged his shoulders and said something in Spanish then shook his head.

The room did have a safe in it. Great you may think. Well this safe doesn’t have a lock. You have to pay for the lock to use the safe. It costs €20 for a week and a €10 deposit. For a four star hotel, this is pretty naff.

Trying to get some clean towels was a nightmare. My child required an extra shower due to being sick. So we tried using the in room hotel phone to call reception but it wasn’t working. So we went down and explained to the receptionist we needed another big shower towel. She said she will get one ordered for the room for the next day! I advised her, we needed it now as she has been sick. She wouldn’t/couldn’t understand, so we abandoned hope with her and when searching for a maid in the hotel corridors. We found one that was literally guarding the towels. Explained to her what was going on and reluctantly she gave us one after asking for our room number multiple times. Again, for a four star hotel to send you round and round for minor things is unacceptable.

The food was pretty much European catered event. Not many vegetarian options. In fact two nights there was nothing other than chips, salad and fruit that would be suitable for vegetarians. Spoke to the chef about vegetarian friendly deserts and he pointed at the fruit basket.

The biggest one for me. After staying two nights, I was bitten by mosquitoes 19 times. That’s right 19! I have photos to prove. The beds had little spots on them. I spoke to the reception manager Manuel about it and he says it’s quite common. I don’t think it is. After the second night, I found a maid on our floor and explained to her (using google translate) that both bed sheets need changing completely due to bugs. Bless her, she was understanding and changed the whole bedding set on both beds.

Well, would I stay in Salou again, yes. Would I stay at the same hotel, no. The manager Manuel was great, as was the restaurant manager but unfortunately all the other staff members were rude and abrupt. The food wasn’t suited for vegetarians. No free parking for ur car.

There are probably things I’m forgetting to add but this review is long enough .. thanks for reading and if you do book with them, lord help ya!

Pool-view rooms modern but fairly narrow.
Some reception staff very helpful, others very unhelpful!
Price for half board was attractive to a family group of 20 with 5 children included but breakfast was very limited. Omelettes on offer the first day, followed by 6 days of fried eggs and sausages which seemed extremely undercooked. Cereal was the same every day and very sugary.
Dinner had some more variety and desserts were good, although no cheese most evenings. Two of our party were vegetarian and were really not catered for: tortilla and chips for a week!
Breakfast was not served till 8 am which is a bit late for families with young children and dinner starting at 8pm was also a little late.
Bar staff were not that enthusiastic, apart from one very hardworking waitress who was excellent.
A very busy hotel with a high turnover.
Won’t be returning.
