Myself and my family have just returned from a weeks stay in the Centurion Playa and while it has a few very good points, I honestly can't give this hotel any more than 3 stars.

The location is excellent as it is right on the beach with just a small path to cross to reach the beach. The beach was pretty quiet when we visited so plenty of room and there is also a small beach bar right outside where you can have a drink and some basic, but tasty food. The beach itself is very clean.

The hotel itself looks tired and dated from the outside but thankfully the inside fares better. The main reception area is small but clean with the bar to the left and dining area to the right. Straight ahead there are 1 or 2 arcade machines for the kids but these are woefully inadequate at keeping anyone entertained for any period of time. The rooms have all been refurbished and are nice and clean if a little small, our room looked out over the car park so the balcony view wasn't great! Bathrooms are also very clean and a good size, shower was good but water temperature was variable to say the least.

Food, as with most hotels like this is a buffet selection at breakfast and evening meal and both are average at best and being honest a bit of a disappointment, especially compared to other 4 star hotels. Breakfast is the usual cold meats, croissants etc and a selection of some hot food that doesn't really change all week. Evening meals again were pretty repetitive and usually lukewarm at best, pasta, fish, meat are all on offer but nothing really that interesting - kids fare less well with very limited choice. For lunch you can eat in the dining area or in the pool bar but we ordered a pizza and saw them take it out the freezer and cook it - not really what we expected!

Nighttime entertainment was also pretty poor with some singers on a couple of nights and the usual flamenco dancers that we the best of the bunch but the clientele (mostly pensioners on our visit) enjoyed it more than we did. There was no kids entertainment at all and very little for them to do at all if they weren't on the beach. (this may just be because we went at end of season)

Prices for drinks etc are very reasonable and certainly couldn't complain about these at €2.50 for a pint.

Overall the quality just isn't there to give it any more than 3 stars, especially as it is advertised as a 4star platinum with Thomson. The food, entertainment and lack of amenities (no indoor pool, gym etc) all count against it however the actual town of Cambrills is beautiful and certainly worth a visit - think of it as a good 3 star on a great setting and you won't be disappointed.

The Estival Centurion Playa hotel is situated right on the beach with great views of the sea. Our room was a sea view room overlooking the beach and the pool area. It was modern and light, with all the usual facilities of toiletries, hairdryer, fridge and kettle but no milk was provided with the tea and coffee and these were not replenished during our stay. A safe was available at 3 Euros per day. There was a flat screen TV but no English channels were available. Wi-Fi was available free of charge but unless you upgraded to a faster connection for 4 Euros per day the connection was painfully slow.

We stayed for one week. The towels were changed every day but and as far as we could tell, the bedding wasn’t changed or the bed even made during that period. The bear minimum cleaning was done such as emptying waste bins and removing glasses.

The food was just OK with reasonable choice but slow to be replenish when dishes ran out. The service in the restaurant and bar was good. There was some entertainment provided by the hotel three nights. There were few bars/restaurants in the area that were opened, none at all at night. It was approx. 1hour walk to the lovely resorts of either Cambrils or Salou along a flat, wide promenade, .We enjoy walking and visited one or the other town each day but for those who have difficulty getting about this may be a problem.

We took a Thomson organised trip to Barcelona which took approx. 1.5 hours away. Lots of shops, culture and atmosphere and is well worth a visit.

Overall the holiday was good but the hotel is not a 4 star and definitely NOT a Thomson Platinum class, but a good 3.

We booked a week in late September, and we're very pleased. The rooms were clean and modern. The food was exceptional as was the service. We were right on the beach with great walks in either direction, we will definitely go back.

We booked this hotel through Thomson Platnum and arrived back on the 2nd October.
The hotel itself is fine, the room was clean, we had a fridge and the bathroom, only a shower, but a great one which worked well, not one of those hotel showers where you either freeze or scald for the first five minutes. The balcony although small was fine for two of us. We did not pay extra for a "sea" view, although many reviewers recommended one. We had a room faceing a small car park and the road. The view was not unpleasant at all, we had the late afternoon sunshine and the room was very quiet. Our opinion is that the sea view rooms would not have been so quiet, and with the position of the hotel and it being late September, some would have very little sun on the balcony. The staff were good and friendly, the bar was not expensive.
The meals were O.K. with a choice of salads, meats, warm or cold etc., and the chef made sure that none of the dishes "ran" out. We enjoy a bottle of wine, found our favourite, but were a little disappointed when our choice ran out on the 3rd day. The hotel was full, it is a large hotel. We went down for dinner early on the first couple of nights and were greated with a long long queue. In fact we were told to come back in half an hour as the restaurant was full when we eventually got to the door, then the head waiter did in fact find us a table. We decided to go down around 8.30 to 9.00, when things were quieter. But it was rather late for ourselves. When I say quieter, yes dinner was quieter, but for the children outside the dining room, presumably awaiting their parents to finish. Some travelling faster than the speed of light!!! The hotel states its request that men wear long trousers at dinner.......no....in many cases shorts flip flops and vests. The hotel is around 45 minutes pleasant walk from Cambrils. There is one bar Onades to the right of the hotel, which is fine if you want a spanish lunch, a friendly place. The main road the opposite way to Salou is depressing...but if you want to stretch your legs after dinner, the path beside the beach is fine both ways.
We spent the days on the beach, even though we had to pay for loungers and a sunshade,we found it better and more relaxing then the hotel pool. During your day you can safely leave your towels and walk to a beach bar for a snack or drink. ( they are closed in the evening, maybe again the time of the year). We noticed that a lot of the hotel clients had either brought the same beach towels, or obtained them from the hotel. We did not know beach towels could have been obtained from the hotel, beach towels take so much room in ones luggage. There were no parasols apart from two very large ones which were fixed, we suppose for anyone having a drink during the day or something from the daytime outside snack bar. Otherwise there was no shade around the pool.
Due to the situation of the hotel, we spent at least the biggest part of our evenings there. Some nights the entertainment was outside, sometimes inside in the large bar/lounge. When we were there the band played and even spoke in either German/Austrian/Swiss, we couldn't decide.
When we go on holiday we take in the country, I am not saying the band should have played totally spanish music, a mixture, yes, but this was not the case. Which brings me back to the seaview/pool rooms, I am so glad we did not have one, as they look over the entertainment area. The Flamenco dancers we really enjoyed, they entertained us one night for an hour or so, made us realise for a short time we were in fact in Spain. Then back to the usual.
The Plana buses are good, there is a bus stop outside the hotel and they take you where you want to go. So if you don't want to pay the price of a "tour" use the Plana bus. They have an office across the road from the hotel....we spent many a late afternoon counting the Plana buses up and down the road (sorry) but a great service.
Bikes can be hired from the hotel, but it is a case of get one, every man for himself, although you pay for your bike hire from the hotel.
The hotel itself, the staff etc., are fine maybe I did rate it a little below.....but it is a family hotel, a long but pleasant walk from Cambils, which is a lovely town with fish restaurants, and shopping in the old town. If we visit the area again we will stay in Cambrils. This hotel, although rated by Thomson as a Platnum hotel is not for couples, it is a family hotel, Thomson do say it caters for families, but we did not expect as many children as we found in the hotel....maybe we picked the wrong time to visit!!! We also did not expect the entertainment as we found it although Thomson do state they are he only english operator to book the hotel.

We have just spent a very pleasant and relaxing week at the Estival Centurion hotel. The room and bathroom were very clean and fresh and we had a regular towel and linen change during our stay. The Interior of the hotel was also up to the same standard as the room, clean fresh and airy. The outside may need some attention but was acceptable. The hotel location is excellent, right on the beach, with a nice pool and lounger area. The pool water was clear and crystal clean. We had Half Board accomodation, the food was typical of a spanish hotel buffet style. There was plenty of choice and a good full breakfast and 3 course dinner could be constructed from the buffet, without repetition, I would say that their fish choices were slightly better than the cooked meats. The staff in reception, the houskeeping staff and the restaurant were all very friendly and efficient. Our only criticism would be of the evening entertainment. This was supplied by a German Swiss three piece band called "Santinos" and whilst for the first three days they were OK, it became a little bit too much of the same. They definitely played to the German audience and tended to gloss over the fact that other nationalities were present. The hotel needs to have a bit more variety in this department. This hotel is between Cambrills and Salou so be prepared for a bus ride or one and a half mile walk "ish" to either town. Would go back.

Room Tip: Unless you can guarantee getting a room at the front, overlooking the pool and the sea, do not pay extra for a sea view. There are 50 standard rooms at the front overlooking the road, the rest are partial sea view and full sea view. We were "upgraded" to a sea view, which was OK but only partial sea view.
