“Nice hotel close to the beach”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

We stayed at the hotel in August 2011 booked through Thomas Cooke. The hotel was clean and about two hundred yards from the beach. The rooms were large enough and cleaned regularly. The restaurant was buffet style with a reasonable selection of meat and fish dishes with lots of fresh fruit and bread. We went all inclusive which was worth the money as we had a couple of jugs of Sangria with the meal each day! The pool area was also clean and well kept with the pool having three sections of different depths for swimmers and non swimmers. Evening entertainment was also good, we saw a Beatles tribute band that were excellant.
The beach was also excellant with lovely sand and plenty of room. There is also a cycle path that runs next to the beach and you can cycle from Salou to Cambrils port without going on the road at all which is great for young children.
Places to visit are Salou for plenty of restaurants and bars. Taragona for the old town which is very pretty and Barcelona for the shops, beach and lovely Gaudi buildings including the unfinished cathedral (Sagrada Familia). The metro is also great for travelling around Barcelona. If you are a football fan you can visit Barcelona football stadium and go for a tour around the stand changing rooms and press boxes.
One tip would be to avoid the excursions through the tour operator and visit PLANA travel company just across the road. On our Barclelona trip we saved 17 Euros each and there were 7 of us. The buses to Salou and Cambrils are also cheap and frequent.
The only negatives about the hotel were the rooms were not very soundproof and there is a railway line behind the hotel (although the trains were very infrequent) also you could hear people outside the hotel talking and shouting late at night when trying to sleep and we were on the 3rd floor.
Also most of the waiters and waitresses were very unfriendly and very rarely smiled, but on the plus side you saved on tips!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel face the sea but there is road in between. Rooms at the rear face th...

After reading reviews about this hotel before we went, we were slightly unsure what to expect but all of the negatives reviews that people have written but have stayed in a completely different hotel! Me and my boyfriend are 18 years old and it was our first holiday abroad together and we was looking for somewhere with nice food and hotel and generally a relaxing time. This is exactly what Best Camrils Hotel provided for us! Our hotel room was lovely, although we didn't have a pool room view, this didn't bother us as we spent very little time in the room. A maid came in every single day with new sheets and towels. The food was gorgeous with a different selection every night apart from things like chips and salad which they provided every night which was fair enough, As well as the buffet selection there was also a fresh counter which the chefs cook right in front of you! This was all ideal for us two as we were all inclusive! As well as this, the breakfasts and lunches were lovely too! The pool area was spacious without being too large and was always able to get a sunbed - even at 3 in the afternoon!! People have commented on the waiters and barmen being miserable? They couldn't be more wrong. I haven't met such welcoming and friendly people before! We stayed here for a week and you want my honest opinion? It wasn't long enough! We are definately coming back to this hotel next year and staying longer. An excellent, beautiful hotel!!

Rooms were excellent with fabulous spacious bathroom inc hairdryer. Fridge stocked daily with juice. Cleaning staff superb! I was lucky to get an amazing top floor pool view, although sun dissappeared from balcony around 1pm. Not keen on food as tasted the same, liked breakfast best. Entertainment average. Still enjoyed my stay! xx

We just got back we loved it we were on poolside view it was good. Aircon in the room all day so not hot in room. Entertaninment wasnt the best but good for some people. The people well the english were nice but the russians were ignorant and horrible. The food was ok if your a lover of meat go here! The hotel was clean and big. The shop is quite expencive if you are buing a barcelona shirt go to salou and buy it there. The pool side floor hurts your feet and there are plenty of beds. There is this one guy who serves you hes called Luis and hes a person whos grumpy and nasty but the others are so kind. Theres a table tennis table, little football area, park its all nice. Its a great family holiday;)

Room Tip: Poolside view

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at Cambrils Best Hotel. I booked this holiday last September (2010) for 4 adults and 1 child & requested pool views. We arrived on Tuesday 2 August 2011. The room allocated to my daughters & granddaughter was great & overlooked the pool. Our room was on the same floor as my girls just over the hall BUT was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the railway line and not the pool view which we had requested last September.
We went to the reception to request that our room be changed but were told there were no pool view rooms available till Friday. We were told that it doesnt matter how many months in advance you book as the rooms are allocated on the day. As we were not happy we were shown 2 alternative rooms one which smelt musty and damp and the other was the other end of the hotel from our family and didnt overlook the pool. We opted to stay in the original room and move on the Friday but it was not a very good start to our holiday. We were woken up the first morning abruptly as the first passenger train of the day went past at 7 am. Trains run all day and night. We did move on the Friday but not ideal packing and unpacking in the middle of the holiday. Rep said the only way to guarantee a sea or pool view is to pay on booking (which we were not offered). SO BE AWARE YOU MAY GET A ROOM WITH A RAILWAY LINE AS A VIEW WITH THE TRAINS RUNNING DAY AND NIGHT. Wonder why the tour operators dont mention this in the brochures!!!
However, if you dont mind the sound of trains and a view of the train track the hotel overall is OK. Loads of choice of food (could have done with been being warmer). If you cant find something you like to eat you must be very fussy. We went and got our sun beds & parasol stands before breakfast. You can hire parasols for a returnable 2 Euros. Some nice person nicked one of ours when my daughter was asleep next to it!!! There is a mini disco every night which my granddaughter loved. Entertainment is OK. 2 nights were bingo, would give this a miss. They use a bucket with balls in and its difficult sometimes to catch the numbers as they call them in about 4 different languages. Dont expect too much and you wont be disappointed.
The beach is just across the road and the beach is nice and clean. There are no parasols to hire but there are gazebos. We paid 22 Euros for 4 sun beds and a gazebo.
It is worth getting the bus (or walking) into Cambrils. There are loads of shops and restaurants.
There are lots of tours to go on. We went on Cruising the Coast which we enjoyed.
There is a Tabac shop about 20 mins walk. Turn left when you come out of hotel and keep walking.
Will definitely be taking more notice of reviews before booking my next holiday

Just got back from Best Cambrils with our young family and parents. The hotel was pretty much as we expected it from reading past reviews so we weren't expecting 4 star treatment, which indeed we didn't get.

The location of the hotel is great, right across the road from a lovely sandy beach. The pool was great for the kids with a shallow part for younger children. The lifeguards did allow bodyboards & rubber rings but no squirters or airbeds.

The food was nice & different each night, lots of choice for adults & children but the choice at the snack bar wasn't great, either greasy burger, hotdog or chips which got a bit boring. The kids enjoyed the ice ceam & some waiters even let them have cornettos but this depended on who served us.

We weren't impressed with the daytime entertainment, nobody ever came around to get kids involved in the activities & the mini disco was pretty disapointing. Some of the evening shows were pretty good with acrobats & magicians & the highlight of the week was my husband winning 'Mr best Cambrils'
Some of the waiters were quite grumpy but there were also some really nice ones who were great with the kids. One waiter poured me red wine when I asked for white & he wouldn't let me change it until I'd drank the red that he'd already poured.

The rooms were ok, we had a fab view of the pool & although our parents had a room overlooking the train line this didn't bother them as trains don't run often & never during the night. Our children found the corridors a bit scary as in some parts the lights are on sensors & don't come on until you're nearly under them which makes the corridors really dark.

Reception service was good and they were happy to provide extra pillows & room keys.

We had a great holiday, weather was amazing & was nice to spend time relaxing with our family but I don't think I would recommend this hotel & we wouldn't return.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the pool are great

The hotel itself was good, the food was very good. The entertainment was good in the evening, but short. Started at 9.30 with the kids disco and then an hour of a show till about 11- 11.30. The gift shop in the hotel is connected to the one just outside and is very expensive. Likewise the small supermarket opposite the hotel is also very expensive, 5 mins walk towards Salou there are more shops and a supermarket, much better prices. The hotel was very clean. The room was a good size for 3 of us. The balconey was also a good size. We never used it though was we were at the back of the hotel overlooking the train track that is lesson than 5meters away and the kitchens. 3 trains an hour from 7am-2am. Although from the front side of the hotel you don't really hear it. Our room was on the 4th floor next to the service lift which was operated all day and ALL NIGHT!! When we asked to move they offered us 2 rooms that only had 2 beds in (we needed 3) and then a room that someone had been smoking in! so we gave up after that. (which is probably what they wanted!). The bar drinks if your not all inclusive were cheaper than outside of the hotel, but i'm not sure how much alchol was in them, it didnt seem much, and if they realised you were paying for the drinks before you paid then they would use a different bottle or put extra in afterwards!! Transfer to and from the hotel was very smooth. Early morning flight, but we were sat by the pool by 10.30am. You cant get into your room till about 1pm. On leaving make sure you order a breakfast the night before, no one told us that we had to do that! The Tavern Restaurant about 5mins walk towards Salou was very good if you fancy a change. Make sure you buy the Bus card if your travelling into Salou etc, saves you alot of money. You can buy this from the Bus shop opposite the hotel. although its a mission to get someone to unlock the gate for you! Theme park - buy your ticket before you go, much cheaper. Water park - very good, you can get half price tickets for this in spain. The beach was clean, sea could be rough, I got bitten a few times on the beach. The pool at the hotel was loevly, very big, on one side you could stand in it and it was only up to your knees, then went to very deep area and then upto shoulders area, so catered for everyone. A small kids pool that was like a bath temp wise! The 3rd pool as 1.2m deep and sometimes they switched on the Jacuzzi in it. You had to put your towel down by 9.30 to get a sunbed as there were russians there! 2euro to have a sun shade by the pool, which was meant to be a deposit, but were never got it back! The area and hotel is very good, its just ashame our room was not up to the standard of the front side of the hotel. So if you can guarentee a room on the front then I would recommend it, if not, dont bother!! Unless you can sleep through a train and lift!

Room Tip: Make sure your room is at the from of the hotel.
