“Good, not Great.”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

I stayed at the HTOP Olympic from the 3rd-10th of September in a party of 9 guests, staying in Calella ready to travel to a Rugby match in Perpignan on the Saturday. Having read the reviews I was a bit wary, but overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Location was good, within easy walking distance of the beach, and near a good Pub 'The White Horse'.

There is a tax to be paid when checking in, a couple of Euro's per person. We were in a 3bed room, decor a bit dated, Pool view ok, Bathroom clean and spacious, TV, plenty of wardrobe space. Movement around the room was tough when more than 1 of us were in, as there is very little space betweeen the bed and wall. Maid service every day with clean sheets and towels.

Main critique of the Hotel was the food, pretty bland, often cold, and by Day 3 we could tolerate no more of the Breakfasts, so used the White Horse for an excellent full English. The card system was easy enough to get used to after a day or so, drinks a wee bit watered down though.

Would definitely recommend using the Roof terrace of the neighbouring Calella Palace for over 18's, plenty of sunbeds, jacuzzi's and a really nice relaxed atmosphere for adults.

A nice stay overall but the food needs improving..

Room Tip: Use the other HTOP Hotels as much as you can.

I'll start off my saying the hotel for what you pay isn't 'too bad' but it definitely isn't good either!
We stayed 5th-12th September and I'm so glad to be home. The room was small which normally wouldn't be an issue but the weather was bad for most of the week so spent more time than normal in there. The bed wasn't changed once and the sheet smelt like musty stale water.
Staff were VERY rude! Only one bar man had the personality to be polite and make a joke the rest were awful. The card for a glass and for a drink/dinner isn't too bad but does take some getting use to. I'm use to having a bracelet on my arm and that's that for the duration.
We are out most nights as the food was not great. Chips and meat/chicken that is 90% bone and gristle. Breakfast is a mad house and you have to queue 20 minutes for the toaster. When going to the hot counter most trays are empty as the obnoxious Germans have 40 bit of bacon per person, 4-5 eggs. That is no exaggeration, I saw one couple sharing 6 plates on a number of occasions.
There are 71 rooms per floor and 7 floors. My other half said the outside reminded him of a shanty town looking up! So many people in one hotel and the walls are think and the doors are closely spaced over a narrow hallway. It was noisy every night and I was woken a few times EVERY night. People shouting, running up and down, knocking on doors. Night mare!!!
I am not normally a picky person who complains for the sake of it but I would not go here again, definitely not the hotel and not the area either. It's a local area and tourists don't seem welcome.

i have had many all inclusive holidays in some lovely countries but was mortified by the sham of a hotel. most guests were of the same opinion as to not knowing how it got three stars.
The food was horrible no really choices. Does spain think that british eat nothng but chips.
Spent more money eating out.
hotel cleaning leave much to be desired rooms were not clean and mould around the bath. sheets not changed until the day before we left.
only change money if you want to be ripped off at 1 euro per pound,
entertainment very poor mainly for kids (3 to 10 ye olds )
I have never been to a hotel that you pay a tax on arrival and my brother who owns property in spain as never heard of it. calella its self was not very nice it was over built and boring.
only bar and restaurant staff were pleasant. in all I felt the whole holiday was a total waste of money. this so called holiday should not be an option on the web.
on the plus side go to papas bar for a friendly welcome and a pleasant night out.

Room Tip: to me they do not have any good rooms all have poor views. this we found when talking to other gue...

Me, my sister and mum visited this hotel from the 2nd-12th sept. This is my 5th visit to this hotel and I cant see all the fuss others make about the hotel you get what you pay for!! Its close to all the local amenities and the beach is a 5 min walk away!
On arrival the reception staff are quick to check in with all the relevant information given for the stay, you get 2 cars 1 to exchange for a drink and the other is your all inclusive card to scan at the restaurant and bar (yes it takes a bit of getting used to but it isn't as bad as people make it out to be), on arrival to our room it was clean and tidy, yes the rooms are not huge but how much time are you actually going to spend in there!!?? We required more pillows for our bed so went and asked at reception and they were taken straight to our room! The towels were changed for fresh every day and the rooms were of a good clean standard the maids do a good job for the amount of rooms they look after.
The food is good, always lots to choose from and the cooking station at lunch and tea is great to get fresh cooked things made in front of you, the sat night was great they has a Mexican theme night with lots of extra choices besides the normal buffet! we even had champagne breakfast on the sat and sun!
The free bus service is great in the high season to book to go to other resorts and use a htop hotel their for the day including lunch and drinks at the bar ( we did this twice and also booked for lunch at the callela palace just up the road), this gives a good chance to get out and explore a bit more.
There are 3 swimming pools that can be used and plenty of sun beds to go around, the pool areas are locked until 10am so there is none of this putting towels on sunbeds to try and reserve the best spots! and the main pool has a bar which is great so you don't have to go inside wet to get a drink.
The staff are all very good, if you are polite to them they will be polite back and there is always security on hand should there be any issues. The animations team are great at looking after the kids doing a disco every night for them and they also put on other shows by outside people in the evenings plus other activities throughout the day.
We will definitely be looking to going back and staying at this hotel again as its great value for money to get some Spanish sun!!!

Room Tip: The back of the hotel over the main pool is best and a higher floor is quieter

We travelled as 2 Male Adults and 2 Female Adults. for 14 nights.
We are not drinkers, but more explorers, so all we look for in a hotel is the following:
1) Good Food
This was really bad, the quality of the hot food, was bad. Nad not only that most nights were not piping hot. Salads were ok, and fruit was not to bad. Desert, very basic, Ice cream or dry sponge bland cakes.
2) Quite so we can sleep well and night to enjoy our pusruits during the day
I would have had a better night sleeping on the beach.
3) Cleaniness
The hotel was kept clean all the time. So thumbs up here. The staff were hard working as usuall, so they deserve a pat on the back.
4) Rooms
Very basic, with an odd smell coming from the air vents

The room we had overlooked the mountain range to the rear, so 5/5 for the view.

Although we only payed £140 for 2 weeks, I would not come back here again. Even for FREE.

I would personally rate this as a 1 star hotel, because of the Noise, Food quality and generall tierdness of the Hotel.

Hope this helps others in deciding to book, if you want to try this hotel, because the price tempts you, then I would strongly advise a very short stay, you can always go back, as the Hotel always have cheap deals.

50 something couple with my grown up daughters (one of whom has mobility issues) Expected the worst after reading some of the reviews. not least with access, Have to say, we had no problems at all, I've paid far more and stayed in far worse! For the numbers of guests they are dealing with, the food was pretty good too! Yes the place is somewhat dated, it could do with a lick of paint! The rooms are on the small side but bathrooms are a decent size, functional and have full size baths! The air con works too! For me, any problems are actually caused by the guests. The scrum, which we called the queue for melon at mealtimes was a disgrace by mature people who should know better. Overall, good holiday!

I enjoyed my stay at Olympic and believe it offers great value for money and would stay again, granted the decor and especially the bathroom could do with a revamp and the furniture could do with an update, but as an all inclusive customers I received fresh towels and bed lining everyday, access to buffet all day and unlimited flow of drinks.

In house entertainment wasn't to my liking but as located right in the centre Calella meant only short trip before you hit the bars, clubs and restaurants. Although was a fan of H TOP Blue Bar that offered discounted rates for all inclusive customers and was located on the beach. The hotel was in great location and I thought was totally ideal for sun holiday.

The hotel also offers the use of three swimming pools and never had to fight for a sun lounger even though was packed. I found the staff to be friendly and extremely helpful. I also took advantage of the discount day trips and had a Panoramic tour of Barcelona as well as spent evening at Medieval banquet which truly enjoyed ... Yellow Knight rules!!!

Granted the rooms could do with better sound proofing, but I hardly got disturbed being on the 2nd floor and had a balcony view of the main pool.

It was better experience than expected after reading the reviews from here before I left and I would stay again or even try another H TOP hotel thoroughly enjoyed my Calella experience :) just don't go to this hotel and expect 5* treatment you get a great deal, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: If you have a problem with your room don't be shy and don't suffer in silent just asked to b...
