“Very Nice Spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

Stayed for our usual 3 days away on second week of December leading up to Christmas. We had booked the Amaika as usual, but were advised by Travel Republic a few weeks ago that it was shut. We elected to give the Volga a try, based on Tripadvisor reviews and also knowing the area fairly well. We arrived at 10.30pm and as we had booked half board and missed diner had food brought to our room. A very nice touch.
The hotel itself is lovely and kept immaculate. We had a nice room on the second floor overlooking the pool, as we think everyone in the hotel had due to it being quiet. The pool area is very nice and the seating areas laid out arounf the perimeter would be an ideal spot to relax when the weather is warm enough.
We were very impressed with the quality of the food. There was a very good selection of meat and fish dishes and I would think that they are using produce and ingredients at the upper end of the supply market. Usual loads of cold meats and salads to be had if you prefer that and there was always some show cooking if you were prepared to wait or wanted your meat or fish done a certain way. Wine and beer is served by waiter if you fancy a drink with your meal and this is paid for at the table.
The main bar and lounge is large enough and well appointed. There is a bit of entertainment put on at night and even although the hotel was quiet, we took in a decent flamenco show. Bar prices are very reasonable (on a par with local bars vodka/cola and a pint of estrella e7.50) There is a cocktail of the day a e3.00 and these are properly prepared a shaken.
All in all, the Volga is a very well presented and run establishment. Don't concern yourself about the trains as we actually amused ourselves watching the local youths sneaking on and off without paying. A sign of the times in Spain I suppose.
We think we will come back more in season to try.

Room Tip: Pool facing rooms catch the sun. Street facing will be quieter, but shaded most of the time

I have stayed 4 times at The Hotel Volga and have never been disappointed. It is ideally located, being just a few minutes walk to the Beach, the Rail Station or the main shopping area. The hotel has 2 pools where you can lounge and have drinks and snacks served to you all day! The Restaurant is large and spacious and the food plentiful and served buffet-style.It caters to all tastes. The rooms are small and clean with a balcony(and sea view if requested)English newspapers are delivered daily to the hotel, with several lounges to relax in.The staff I have found to be warm, welcoming and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend The Hotel Volga,I look forward to going back!

We have just returned from the Volga (both in our 70's) and must say it was far better than we had expected considering the cost of the holiday. We had a room overlooking the pool on the first floor. Lovely and clean, fresh linen daily. Immaculate bathroom. One slight problem for me personally was the rock hard orthopedic mattress on the bed, but I mentioned this to one of the staff and next day a softer mattress was put in its place. So there you go - great attention! We only had B/B and intended to go out to restaurants every evening. However, when we saw the banquet offered in the hotel dining room at night for just 12.50E which included wine and water, we changed our mind and ate in most evenings. The entertainment was ok and the Spanish/Medieval flamenco evening excellent. Voga is also conveniently close to the town, beach and station, so ideal for us.

The strengths of this hotel far outweigh the weaknesses. We found it a bit noisy especially coming from the pool area late at night. BUT our fellow guests included a 46 strong German marching band who obviously enjoyed relaxing together after all that marching! The only other weakness was the energetic and over enthusiastic waiters, who will whip your half eaten food away if you are stupid enough to leave the table to search for a spoon. So beware. All in all though an enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking pool but on a higher floor, so less noise at night from pool area.

Was very impressed by this small hotel, it's just a short walk from the train station (incidentally which didn't keep us awake) and also close to the beach offering excellent value for money.

Great choice of food at all meal times and friendly service throughout the hotel. Travelling as a group of 20 is sometimes difficult for hotels to handle, but we were even offered complimentary champagne at dinner one evening and were all able to sit together each evening at dinner at adjacent tables making it a fantastic atmosphere.
The pool and surrounding areas were very clean and tidy and the Volga Beach Club an added bonus, very convenient with towels, sunlounger and parasol, and toilet facilities all provided for 3 euros per day!
The land train also goes round the resort picking up right outside the hotel, so you can hop on and off, shop, drink and be merry all day without staying in the busiest part of town.
We went for a no-hassle relaxing short break which was just what we got, so a very big thank you to all the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview room which also overlooks the pool area

We have been to this hotel 3 times, all on a coach holiday at Christmas. The rooms are comfortable and very clean with new towels each day. The food is exeptional and plenty of varieties. The staff are excellent and the entertainment is quite good, not to be missed.

Following our experience in June, we returned for a week in September.

This time we were not so lucky with our room allocation, and despite paying a supplement to our holiday company in the belief that for a supplement you would get a better room, this time we were allocated a room overlooking the adjacent school. The hotel confirmed that the room we were allocated would not have been any different if we had not paid this additional supplement. My immediate concern before even seeing the room was that we would be woken early in the morning by noise from the school, but the Reception staff assured us this would not be the case. Wrong........!!!!!!!!

There were more staff around in the Dining Room, so getting drinks was not a problem this time and the staff were marshalled very effectively by the excellent José. Food again was excellent both in terms of quality and quantity.

So yes, we were disappointed with our room allocation and I would personally reiterate to anybody staying here to ensure that you have a room overlooking the pool area. Booking direct with the Hotel might alleviate this concern but I have to say I was disturbed with the attitude of the Reception staff and their lack of sympathy to our worries - especially bearing in mind that we were returning customers. The final insult was that we were told on arrival that we couldn't be moved to another room "because the Hotel is full", but as the discussion developed it apppeared that we could get a move for an additional €14.00 per night. I still can't work that one out but the Hotel clearly wasn't full !!

Room Tip: Again, I would say get a room overlooking the pool area.
