“nice hotel dangerous beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2012

i stayed in kaktus for years ago with my twin boys and my sisters the hotel is very clean
the staff are friendly the pool is small if you have a room with the sea view its amazing.
but if you want to swim on that beach its dangerous as you step and after its really deep i wouldn't reccomand it for guests with children as believe me its dangerous in addition its not a sundy beach its a rock beach and the hotel is more for old people then for couple and parents with young kids.
so if you want to go for a good swim its better to go to benidorm on the bus we rented a car so i don't know the price.
the hotel food is really nice variety and for for people who likes fish fridays is the special day for fish and paela ...
my advise is to rent a car for one or two days to visit the attraction park its a lot of walking but its a must
so overall i enjoyed my stay apart from the dangerous beach

nice hotel good location food good but restaurant under staffed coffee stations like musical chairs one would have coffee no cups another cups no coffee food would run out. Not enough information followed instructions on safe and fridge in room to find out you need special key you have to pay for. Was told there was parking when booking when got there was told no parking.

The Kaktus Playa is a large Hotel,it has a large bar area with plenty of comfortable seating to relax in and watch the evening entertainment. The staff I found to be very friendly and helpful, the restaurant staff were very welcoming and engaging, always with a smile on their faces. The food was very good,I particually liked dinner, plenty of choice, something for everyone. My room was fine (708)the maid came in every day to clean and change the towels. The Hotel is just 5 minutes away from the beach,I would stop in this Hotel again if Holidaying in Calella.

Room Tip: I always personally prefer a room on a high floor. My room 708 looked out across the city,so the view...

Tips: Transport... it was a bit tricky getting to the Calella from barcelona Airport due to train from Barcelona Airport not working. In the end, took the Airport Bus to Playa Cataluna, and Metro (Underground) to Clot, and an Overland train from El-Clot to Calella. Total journey time about 1h45 mins.

We ate at some lovely restuarants... the best was some Roast Chicken & Grilled Lamb at the 5 Star Restaurant called: Casa Carlos (Price for 2 People with a jug of Sangria, £35).

We also had a really delicious 5 Star Paella (The Speacial Paella) at a restuarant called: Junior Restaurant Bar (Price for 2 People £35)

We have stayed here for our F1 trips a few times now, nice hotel for the price and it's in a nice location.
Positives: good location, friendly staff, food perfectly adequate plenty of choice, nice pool area.
Negatives: no air con until June 15th! So if you are there in may like us and it's 31oC like it was it gets pretty hot!! Beds not so comfy, dependent on the room location it can be quite noisey.
Local town is very nice and train station 15 mins away so good for a Barcelona trip! Takes about 50mins on train from calella.

The location is great; a block tops from the beach. Also close enough to the old town and other restaurants and bars without being noisy, but easy enough to walk. Staff were neither great nor rude. The balconies are lovely but can be very slippery in the rain (the balcony floors are partly made of glass). The bed was fine as was the bathroom. The breakfast that was included was really good considering it was essentially free. It even had some hot items and there was plenty of variety. It was really busy though. The thing that lets the hotel down is the parking: pretty much non-existent. Very tough to get a spot anywhere near the hotel (and it is all one-way systems). However, if you are there as part of a tour group with coach transfers then you have no worries.

There is a Spar supermarket across the road for essentials and reasonably priced. The beach is nice and rarely overcrowded. Remember a train runs along it but you barely hear it.

The lifts are too few for the number of rooms but overall it was better than expected.

recently returned from the Kaktus Playa with a group of friends on an organised tour with Leger Holidays. The hotel is located a five minute walk from the beach which is reached via an underpass under the railway tracks. The railway line runs quite close to the hotel as mentioned in previous reviews but the trains are modern electric trains and to be honest you can hardly hear them and the don't start till about 6am and finish by 11pm. The railway station is a ten minute stroll along the beach and travel is incredibly cheap compared to here in england. 7€ return to the centre of barcelona and the brilliant underground in barcelona is 1.2€ for any single trip

The hotel is bright and airy and most importantly of all clean, but we found our room to be quite small compared to other members of our party and was basically furnished with a small portable television, however the room was cleaned every morning and i feel the hotel is "typical" of what you get in a 3* hotel in spain. There is a nice outdoor pool and pool bar and an indoor pool and leisure facility offering massages etc.

The food was excellent, breakfast is your typical continental breakfast with the addition of sausage and bacon etc, The evening meal always had a good choice of salads and a large selection of meats and vegetables with good choice of deserts. For the evening meal they have 2 sittings and we always found it best to leave it for half an hour after your alloted meal time to avoid having to queue on the staircase due to a lack of tables!

Evening entertainment is average at best, usually a singer singing in 3-4 different languages to please the audience made up of many nations, with the occasional flamenco night and accordian player. There is a british owned bar around the corner called alcatraz which shows all the football and major sports and does good food and benefits from having a good selection of beers ( carling, tetley's etc) if you fancy something different in the evening.

We would be more than happy to stop here again if we were in the area and i feel the hotel is a good base for exploring the local area.
