“Good value, nice hotel”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

We have just got back from a 5 night break and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel itself was fine although maybe a little bit dated. The food was very good and the restaurant staff very pleasant. The all inclusive system was a bit restrictive and sadly most of the bar staff ( with a few exceptions) were downright miserable. It is only a short walk down to the old part of Calella, which is a lovely place. We would most definately go back again.

Just come home from a Ferris Holiday here. The hotel itself is lovely & clean. The staff on the other hand are just totally rude! Within 2 hrs of being there, we had a meeting with the hotel manager to complain about bar staff / reception.
Bar staff would only give you certain drinks on the STUPID all inclusive card system. The Vodka is only 25% proof too. All food is to be eaten in the Restaurant only, including ice creams for the kids! Entertainment is poor but our 4 yr old enjoyed it a little. This hotel is the furthest away from the sea out of any hotel in Calella too (look on a map).
So all in all, the hotel itself is lovely, don't expect 4* because it isn't. Rude staff, naff food, naff drink! Nice pools though, After speaking to other guests, apparently all HTOP are the same??!!
Enjoy!

just got back today. Ours was a 4 night stay and we went to relax and just have a nice break. And thats what it was. The hotel was clean, the food was good, although it did seem a free for all at times. The rooms were a good size with a large bathroom. As stated previously, the hotel was clean but it was dated, felt a bit like we had stepped back into the 70/80's. It could do with a revamp but was good value for money. Drinks were a bit on the weak side, but we got what we paid for.
Calella town was lovely. Nice bars, lovely beach, generally a nice feel to the area. We hopped on the train for a day in Barcelona and enjoyed this. Got the bus tour tickets at Calella station and that meant that the train was free. Good value.
Earlier this year we went to Mexico so have been spoiled, but, i thought this hotel, overall was good for a short break without costing too much.
We would go back for the same. On the down side, you can hear a lot of noise from the rooms above, below and to the side.

Room Tip: We had room 312 at the end of a corridor so not much noise during the night.

Looking for excellent fresh food? this is the place. chefs cooking fresh foods whilst you wait at every sitting. an excellent variety of good quality food at every sitting
Entertainment of good variety. the prankster magician was hilarious! a show not to be missed
no rowdy drunks around hotel or pool area. loads of excess sunbeds around pool.
rooms tastefully decorated. we had a pool view with slight view of the sea. we ere very pleased.
a short walk to beach. you can book 1/2 price beds and umbrellas at hotel for the beach. the beach bar for h top hotels on beach well worth a visit for shows in the night. also they play music in the day. we put our bed near here.
we would return to this hotel we had no complaints what so ever.

I have often stayed in Calella as a nice cheap break and previously stayed at the H-Top Olympic which is cheap and cheerful. My first stay in May at the Palace was far superior with the size and standard of the rooms and facilities, Gym etc. An out door glass lift takes you to a roof terrace with hot tubs and a brilliant panoramic view of the mountains, town and sea. The food is good and the hotel is clean. My only down was the bar staff (unlike reception) are not friendly and rarely raise a smile. I am returning mid -Sept to take my mum for a short break. You get what you pay for and at £37 per night all-inclusive it's excellent, you do get younger teens but not larger louts.

Calella it's self is a quieter small town with lovely old streets and shops a nice beach and easy access up and down the coast by train. I would recommend a combined rail and open top bus tour ticket for a day out in Barcelona.

Had a lovely 7 days, my thoughts were;

Very good-
Reception and dining room staff as well as the entertainers for the kids
Views from the roof sun terrace
Staff flexibility with us amending our half board meals from dinners to lunches
The town of Calella

Good-
Quality of the buffet food
Entertainment
Option for wifi in your room
You can get the train to Barcelona in an hour and airport transfer was similar

Average-
The pool and pool lounge area
The quality of the rooms

Poor
We had a rear bedroom with a balcony view of a hedge and a road, but front top rooms would have had lovely views
No fridge in the bedroom
Lots of German youngsters on post college holidays coming in at 4am, combined with very thin walls, if taking a family make sure you aren't sharing a corridor with the youngsters it's rowdy from 2am-5am and with it being multiple rooms calling security doesn't assist much (thought they did try), other families on different floors to us were not affected so I think we were just unlucky

Room Tip: Front of the hotel and either high up or make sure it's with other families and not the young si...

We're still here now. Can't wait to get out. First night German kids next door came in at 5 am and I could've sworn they were in the room with us. We complained they shut up then got us up at 7 am !!! We moved rooms as that was just unbearable. The walls really are paper thin. The baby next door dropping a toothbrush woke me up the next morning I kid you not. The bar staff are just So unfriendly. Avoid pedro the locals even know of him as a nasty unfriendly arrogant man. The food is ok but to have a break from monotony we have been coming to papas which we shouldn't have to do on an all inclusive. Papas has certainly cheered us up though. And finally the entertainment. There is none !!! The entertainment staff are seen sporadically throughout the day and then they are useless. We have two children with us who are bored senseless and we are paying to entertain them. Not what we expected from an all inclusive. We wouldn't come again. Good points .... !??? The reception staff are quite helpful. But that's about it we can't wait to get home after a year of saving up to get here.
