“Great value for money”
Reviewed December 17, 2009

We wanted to go away to do nothing but relax and we got that. The hotel itself is beautiful with "Titanic" interiors. The room was lovely and clean and very spacious. The staff was nice and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The highlight of the hotel has got to be the private use of the jacuzzi & sauna (1 hour per day), this made up for the lack of an indoor swimming pool.

There were 2 negatives in my view, there was no entertainment in the hotel other than the nightly "disco", and the other was that the food was cheap and repetitive. Leftovers were put out in their buffet until comsumed and they did not even try to disguise it. What I mean is that you would think they might curry or stir fry the leftover pork to disguise it, but they actually just reheated it! Obviously not very creative!

Despite the cheap food, we found something to eat 4 days out of the 5, so not too bad. I would go back to the hotel again, but not in the very low season as the food is better in busy times, so probably April to September.

on arrival we were given rooms with balconies what extended out .the rooms inside were excellent ,a bath with a shower over the bath, also a shower on its own in a cubicle.a shaving mirror and hairdryer.the all inclusive drinks were good but the snack bar was closed so you were given sandwhiches wrapped in cling film as the only option.thank god mc donalds is just over the road.being out of season there was no entertainment the first night(we were reliant on someone with an i pod and the following 2 nights it was supposed to be a disco when all it was was 1 cd playing the same music over and over again..taking into account hardly anyone was in the hotel i see where they are coming from .the food was excellent compared to the other local htop hotel of which we booked lunch at and the food was utter disgusting.thank god we were at the amaika.what people were there were we made some good friends and even in the other htop hotel we made some friends.on lady was devastated because we left a bottle of vodka for the cleaner as we only had hand luggage.the amaika is very clean and an excellant hotel, apart from the snack bar and entertainment ,apart from that we had a great stay.the roadworks is still ongoing at the end of the street and sometimes noisy.we didnt mind as we just went up to the other htop hotel and sat in the sun .we flew back at 6.30pm and got picked up at 3 .although you have to be out of your room at 10am you can use your card for drinks and food until you leave .the luggage room is also locked as well.brilliant stay

Just back from Amaika, been before same time last year and it was good enough then to return this year.
All inclusive both visits. The food was edible but sausages, grilled white fish ( no further descrition given), chips , chicken legs, or well boiled mutton or cheaper cuts were the norm. Always clean and 2 microwaves in restaurant a great idea. Breakfasts generally good. good salads .
We are not heavy drinkers , have the odd beer which was pleasant but the gin and tonic was rather weak. I think they may be watering down the spirits. The reception staff helpful, rooms good unless you have the side where they are laying new terraced area. This involved marble being cut ,delivered etc and started around 7am most days. We requested a high level room and got it front facing so noise not disturbing.
Lovely jacuzzi which you book for personal use the day before for periods of one hour free if you have allinclusive.

The hotel was fairly quiet but mobbed at weekend with Spanish families , which was nice as the food was much better during this time , which is quite annoying as it makes you feel they were Taking the mickey slightly with the foreign guests. Bar staff yet to smile , always felt we were a bit of an inconvenience, , liked to slam the glasses when they serve youwhich was a wee bit annoying.
I wouldnt go back and I am sure from other peoples comments they were of the same opinion. still it was cheap and if thats important its an ok hotel. parking 12 euros a day.

The Amaika is one of the Hotels that is Ok in most departments but does not really excel in any. The food again was ok although we did think the salad selection was better than the main hot courses. The all inclusive drinks again ok. We like to have wine with our meals but after the first night kept to the beer. We thought the all Inclusive card that had to be carried all the time to obtain drinks etc was a bit of a bind & the wristband method used in other all inclusive hotels is more practical. Its worth noting a few things if you are thinking of making a booking. There are major road works along side the Hotel so a room at the other side of the Hotel would be advised. The free bus that runs between H. Top hotels ended on 21 October. Also the Beach Club is no longer open. We did visit several of the H. Top group Hotels in other resorts & found the Amaika to be one of the better ones. Everything considered we thought the Amaika offered value for money without being too memorable an experience.

Just arrived back from 5 night stay. In my opinion the hotel is not 4* I would rate it a 3* at most. The facilities are basic but clean, , and evening entertainment was ok on a couple of the nights.

The TV in the room was tiny and there was no iron available to borrow in the hotel. The gym room didn't have much in it and the A/C didn't work so it was like a sauna. We were booked in as a couple but they gave us 2 single beds and said that all the rooms were like that!! Instead we got 2 beds pushed together with separate sheets that split apart in the night.

We were on the 8th Floor so had a good sea view. The location was handy for the train station to Barcelona.

But it was low season so most of the clubs/bars were closed so it was a bit of a ghost town They are still carrying out the road works, but the noise was only heard if you opened the window, however they started work at about 7am so if you were in one of the lower floors it would probably be a problem.

just to totally agree with the person above me in the reviews,an thoroughly pleasant surprise of a hotel nicely situated from the pedestrianised shopping area, close enough for the railway station, food in the hotel was very varied and plentiful enough to suit even the most picky of palates. We will return to this hotel most definately

We have read a lot about this hotel, and we've visited it in the past using the All Inclusive card. We were surprised to find earlier this year we couldn't use it there so we decided to try the hotel for a week and see why they stopped accepting the AI card from other hotels.

We flew to Girona by Ryanair, as usual, met by pre-arranged car to take us to the hotel in less than 30 mins. The hotel itself is set back from the sea front, and has no real sea views to talk of. We were on the fourth floor to the side, overlooking the pools. The room was clean presentable and quite spacious. The tv was old and we had it changed after a couple of days when the picture went completely(we only used it to watch our dvd's).
There is a safe in the wardrobe, which costs 30 euros, 20 of which is a refundable deposit. There is a shower over the bath as well as a shower in a cubicle. the water is always hot, the rooms are cleaned every day and the towels are changed when you want them to be.

The food was excellent, though the breakfast was a little disappointing, the "english" breakfast was greasy and not very appealing, but there is plenty of continetal choices, fruit, cereals, ham, cheese, tuna, salami etc, plenty of bread, sliced and rolls. The queue for the toaster could be lengthy but worth the wait.
Lunch was lovely, if you were on AI the waiter asked you what you wanted for drinks, brought them to the table and was always in close proximity for refills. There was plenty of choice, salads, cold meats, pasta, hot dishes and always a chef cooking fresh meats.
Chips everyday, so no complaints from the kids(very few actually!). desserts were excellent, small cakes, mousses, ice cream etc. Hot beverages always available.
Dinner was more of the same, just really couldn't complain about any of it.
The staff were very friendly, even the miserable bartender started to warm to us by the end of the week. The waiting staff were brilliant and always found us a table when the place was full.
Recommendations
Book the sauna and jacuzzi if you are on AI, well worth an hours relaxing.
Dont queue for dinner or lunch, leave it for an hour so that the rush dies down. There is always plenty of food, they dont run out(well we didn't see it happen)
If you are on AI there is food available between meals, so if you missed lunch(we did when we visited Barcelona) the food is on the left hand side of the restaurant, and comprises meats and salads and chips!
Visit Barcelona on the train, costs 6.70 euros return, brilliant place to wander round.
Use the HTop Bus to visit other resorts(you'll have to book a day in advance) and have a drink or eat at another one of their hotels for free.
Use the beach bar in Calella, you can have 2 free drinks on your AI card.

Overall the hotel surpassed our expectations, we will be returning next year with the kids and grandkids.
