We visited in April, and found the hotel to be perfectly acceptable. The rooms are clean,if a little tired.Selection of food on allinclusive was fine, but to be honest, a little repetitive. The swimmingpool is very small with limited roomaround it. The entertainment was geared towards older guests, with bingo etc.For the very cheap price we paid we were very satisified with the holiday but if its something a little different you are looking for, then this place is not it. However, it is near everything especially the beach but i think this hotel is ideally suited for older people.

Room Tip: Upper roomswith pool view have better sea views

Booked to stay a week at the Amaika from 23rd April. On our arrival we were advised there was a problem and no room available for the first 2 nights and would have to stay at the Calella Palace. Knowing we had not paid a lot for the hotel we agreed to room upgrades and a few other little sweeteners as acceptance. It didn't spoil our stay at all as the Calella Palace was fine, and the room was great. Back at the Amaika the rooms were lovely and had good sea views. The food was very good, plentiful and hot with a lot of choice. Yes pig trotters were offered once, but the other choices that day were more than enough to compensate, and being on All inclusive bottles of wine were offered even if only one was drinking it. All drinks in the dining room were bottled (no watered down draft stuff) and again in the bar, wine was bottled and a good variety of other local alcoholic drinks were offered. The cocktail of the day was made from bottles too We found all the staff to be very friendly, especially in the dining room and bar. The evening entertainment was definitely geared to the many elderly Spanish guests, but the magic show was good, and we met up with some like minded guests from Liverpool, so had a good time. The pool area is small, and could be a problem in the height of the season, but whilst we were there my grandson was the only one using the pool (only one daft enough as the weather was awful). The beach which is close by is vast but shingle sand, and the HTop group have a bar on the beach (due to open the day after we came home). Word of caution about the beach - we were robbed by a lone moron, and had no idea until some Spanish people came over to tell us what was happening. One of the people who saw it, chased after the moron and got most of our things back, but was upsetting - it was our first day . The police were very helpful, and the management at both hotels were superb in helping us through our crisis. When we got back from the police station there was a bottle of wine in a cooler waiting for us, and an enormous display of fruit, cake and biscuits was delivered shortly after. If staying at the Amaika, make the most of the facilities of the Calella Palace, as they have a small indoor splash pool, and a fabulous roof top terrace with Jacuzzi pools and bar (for adults only), and the out door pool and terrace are larger. In all we had a good stay at both hotels and were great value for money

Room Tip: Higher floors over looking pool, and will get a sea view too

Arrived for seven days All Incluive stay after an hour or so's transfer from Barcelona. After reading room tips we had asked for a high floor with pool view but were put on second floor. No other rooms according to slightly snippy receptionist but in the end the room turned out to be not too bad although there was an annoying intermittent humming noise which was also there at night and cooking smells. We think maybe close to kitchen extractor fans but couldn't see where they vented to so not sure.

No idea what the Titanic themed decor was all about but housekeeping was excellent. Room was cleaned and towels changed every day.Drinks good. Beer was Estrella which came as a pleasant surprise and we were given a bottle at a time if we asked for wine at meals. Nice wine too for a house bottle. Also proper Pepsi. Hot drinks were from a machine and vile. Coffee way too sweet. We stuck to hot water and the tea bags provided.

Food quite hit and miss. Lots of it and trays refreshed efficiently but pigs trotters, pigs kidneys and rabbit were highlights of possibly the wrong sort. Some of the hot stuff was pretty stodgy and tasteless especially the rice based dishes. Salads were lovely although not much variety of choice. Could have done with some spicier dishes. A curry or chilli would have gone down a treat. Desserts looked as if they contained more e-numbers than you could shake a stick at (breakfast fruit juice too while I think of it) although the dessert rice pudding was very nice. A couple of the waiters were lovely and friendly. The rest so-so.

Lots and lots of elderly Spanish punters who acted like they owned the place at times. Also lunchtime coach parties ditto who filled the dining room and made it hard to find a lunchtime table once or twice.

Calella itself is fine. Beach is lovely but windier than expected. Great shops.

Overall a reasonable trip. Might or might not return. Lots more of Spain to see!

this hotel should definatly not be rated above 2 star and that is on cleanlyness alone
The food was constantly luke warm to cold, with the cheapest cuts of pork(Pigs Kidneys, shin's,knuckles) cold chicken quarters and overcooked fish(cold) mot of the meats and fish looks like its been cut with an axe(Fragments of BONE'S-even the breakfasts were cold and overcooked(EGGS Burnt on the botton-raw on the top-Scrambled egg- made from powdered egg,Cold german style (frankfurters) sausage, cheap hard shell baked beans in tasteless sauce. They are not catering for the Brit's as they are in a minority-most of the food is like eastern european Goulash,
The pool area is far too small for the no of rooms(Not enough sun beds)
The Bar has only 1 beer pump and till and even though there is three waiters serving the que for drinks gets massive as they can only serve one at a time.Between serving spanish guests with coffee that is.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a room away from the lifts, eat at Gringo Joes use the calella palace su...
