Reviewed November 28, 2011

the amaika, glad we went there, hotel is absolutly brilliant, all set out like the titanic, but staying afloat, great location, 1 min walk to beach, when you first walk into the reception the main desk
gives you the welcome feeling, rooms are very well set out, very comfy, cleaned regulary, The restraunt is a replica of the great dinning room, clean and well presented, meals are buffet style
with loads of choices, maybe too much to make your mind up what you want to eat and HOT, not like some other hotels where it can be warm/cold and left out for hours, the bar area is very nice, but the staff appear to be on holiday as well, (slow to serve, quick to chat to each other)
calella is a great town, talk and join in with the locals you will have plenty of fun, this is the 4th
h.top we have stayed at and will return again......eat-drink-and fall over the kerbs....ace

Room Tip: front rooms over look the pool area and sea veiw

Stayed in Amaika for 3rd time in last 3 years and have to say the hotel is going downhill. The food is ok nothing more, the staff are a mixed bunch between very helpful and cheery to down right surly. It is in a lovely resort and should make more of itself.hotel is best suited for couples or groups of friends but not for families and children (Calella Palace better for these).
Have one very serious complaint - during stay a barman was accused of having an incident with one underage girl staying in hotel (no idea if true or not!)He was arrested and taken away by police and then a fight broke out between family and bar staff with glasses and bottles thrown, punches etc .After calm restored the was no explaination or appologies to other guests re incident which was very bad from a management point.
Would have to say would query management running of hotel !!
Until the update and upgrade hotel and get better attitudes to guests i could not recommend to anyone and won't be back.

We were forced to move here from our original hotel (Royal Sun). It didn't compare favourably. It's layout is designed on the Titanic (slightly odd, but quite pretty). The dining room is lovely, but was pretty crowded, the chairs and tables are very hugger-mugger and you're constantly crashing into other diners (not all of whom have manners their mothers would be proud of).

The food was pretty much identical to the Royal Sun so I won't write it all out again here.

The room we had was vast, even with four beds in it. My youngest son was given a fold-out chair to sleep on - he didn't mind, but I thought it was very poor as I'd paid the same price for him as for the adults. the bathroom was a good size with room to hang things to dry.

There is a lovely old church nearby and some very pretty squares. The shops are excellent - hundreds to choose from and there's everything you could possibly want and the prices are pretty good value.

Our room had a view of Calella and the distant hills and the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the beach. You do need to use a subway to get under the railway. When we were there, it had rained heavily and the subway had flooded and was unusable - you don't see this until you're halfway in, so be cautious.

The reason I wouldn't stay here again is that the staff were not friendly and polite, and in some cases, were downright rude. I had asked one of the receptionists a question and she replied to me very aggressively and I felt a bit upset. My husband was also treated like a small child at the bar and informed 'no more for you' even though he was far from being drunk. I have to say that one of the receptionists (a lady in glasses) was very nice and helpful, so go for her if you can. The restaurant staff and cleaners were always pleasant.

We are a couple aged 59/62 yrs,we visited this hotel for a week leaving on 7th Nov 2011.
Reception:- check in was quick and efficent,,Do not bother to request any particular floor as they don't take a bit of notice of requests. We requested a low floor and was given the 7th floor,,we also meet others who had also asked for a low floor and were also put on the 7th,,then we met people who had asked for a high floor and were given the 1st floor. So it appears requests are a waste of time. The receptionist just shrugs when these are pointed out.
Location:- The hotel is in a good location,,just minutes from the beach and just across from the main shopping streets.
Hotel:- The hotel is much better inside than outside,,where it looks like it could do with a coat of paint. It has been designed like the inside of a ship,,it is well maintained, bright and clean. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels are changed when you request.
Entertainment:- The evening entertainment leaves much to be desired and was one of the main causes of complaint that we heard during our stay. It was mainly disco type music,,half british and half spanish, but the same music every night.
Guests:- There was a mixture of British and Spanish guests,,ranging from families with young children to the more mature couples. Young adults were on the whole bored and complaining about the entertainment.
Food:- We thought the food was of a good quality and variety. It was served warm rather than hot.
Breakfast:- There was a choice of hot cooked breakfast, cold meats, cheeses etc,,cereal, fruit, juices etc.
Lunch and Dinner:-Soup,rolls, Plenty of salads..chicken,lamb,pork,pasta,chips,veg,muscels,prawns..potatoes,chips etc etc followed by fruit and a choice of desserts,,,the desserts were a bit bland.
In the dinning room you are offered a bottle of red, white,or rose wine both at lunch and dinner as part of the all inclusive deal. There is also juice, beer and water.
Bar:- The bar serves on the all inclusive until midnight,,it is open until 1AM but you have to pay after midnight.
The drinks are very weak,,it would be very hard to get merry on them.
Staff:- We found both the bar and restaurant staff to be very pleasant.
Calella:- There is not alot to do in Calella at this time of year and alot of teenagers/early twenties were bored, esp in the evenings as alot of bars were closed and the ones that were open were very quiet.

I booked this hotel for myself and the missus for a 3 night break after reading reviews on tripadvisor and all in all we were very happy with the stay. On arrival we did have to wait awhile to be allocated our room and wait around which took longer than expected..Decor was well done - made to look like the inside of a ship and the place was always well cleaned whether it be the rooms, bar area or restaurant. One of the best features of the hotel had to be the sauna and jacuzzi. A big thumbs up there for us as the weather was abit hit and miss so making full use of the sauna and jacuzzi (you book by the hour) was a massive plus.. The pool area isnt the biggest and is behind the wall seperating the road side (can get a little noisy with the coaches and cars) but not a massive problem this time of year as it won't be mega busy + the beach is pretty much on your front door. Staff were great, cant complain there.. Hotel is in a good location, right off the beach and a 10min walk to the train station (45mins getting into Barcelona).. We didnt really see much of the town as the weather wasnt on our side but with an all inclusive bar and restaurant you cant really complain.. Food was good too - this was a worry initially having read negative reviews but to be fair it was fine - it what you'd expect but does the job and there is variety and pleanty of it.. The only downsides - this time of year the aircon is switched off so if it does get hot (which it did on the odd day and night) you will only have heat coming out of the unit. We did query that as the unit in the room gave the option of heat or cold air but it wasnt to be the case. The missus wasnt too impressed with the hairdryer - said it wasnt powerful at all so ladies do take your own otherwise you'll be stuck in the bathroom for a long time drying your hair!.. All in all - we were happy with it and if in calella again, i'd prob stay here.

Stayed in the Amaika from the 8th October - 15th October with my family. The hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean. The rooms are kept nice with fresh towels daily. You get towels at the reception for the pool for a deposit of 5 euros daily which you get back at the end of your stay. the hotel does not really cater for children we had three with us and apart from one other girl they were the only ones in the hotel which was great for them as they had the swimming pool all to themselves. The entertainment in the evening left a lot to be desired but we had a great time watching all the golden oldies dancing and believe me it was a comedy show on its own! The animation team consisted of one person, Marta, and she was great doing bingo and quizes every afternoon by the pool and the odd night doing a disco for our children, they loved her and she was brilliant with them. The food was not great but we did not starve and as I keep saying you only get what you pay for so we did not expect 4 star food. The location of the hotel is superb as it is in the centre and only 2 minutes from the lovely beach. Calella is lovely and it has kept a lot of its tradition I will definitely go back. You must take a trip on the train that takes you all round Callela for only 2 Euros. If you are looking for a nice quiet relaxing holiday and are not fussy eaters then the Amaika is the hotel for you.

We booked this when looking for a hotel to stay in whist attending the Geocaching Mega Event in the town, we booked the flights with Jet2, and the hotel seperately. On stepping off the plane we headed to the train station and got the train to Calella (7.70 for two singles), changed in Barcelona and then to the resort, the walk from the station took a little over 15 minutes but there are loads of taxis if required.
The hotel is ideally located a 2 minute walk from the beach and the same to the shops, we checked in and had booked the all inclusive package at a good rate (We paid less here All Inclusive than others in the area which were only half board), the room was big and airy, spotlessly clean. Some of the reviews say to ask for a room on the first floor, don't ask for Room 110 as this was where we were and although it does have its own terrace with sunbeds it was like a prison call, the sides of the terrace are at least 7 feet tall and you can't see out, but everybody can see in!! The room was cleaned every day and although we didn't want the towels changing they were changed anyway.
The food was nothing spectacular, it was good enough to stop you going hungry. The salad bar was always well presented and the vegetable soup was nice with the croutons, the one observation I would make is there were never any vegetables, just sprouts. The staff in the restaurant were fantastic, point to note, don't bother queueing as we did, some nationalities will walk straight past you and grab a table. (Bit like the sunbed story)
The bar staff were always helpful, there is a coffee machine in the bar where you can help yourself but it is rough, for 50 cents we managed to get a decent coffee from the bar. The daily cocktails were fine, but like previous comments don't drink in the bar to get drunk as you won't, but its a nice place to sit and relax at the end of the day.
Don't forget it you do stay at this hotel you can book the sauna/jacuzzi for your personal use for an hour a day. It is all cleaned for you and the towels are provided, you can lock the door and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of it, we done quite a bit of walking so it was nice at the end of the day.
All in all it was a nice hotel at a nice price, we would return to Calella although not to this hotel as the food wasn't up to much and the pool area was small and din't get much sun. Oh and you need to leave a 20 Euro deposit at reception for the remote control for the TV so budget for this if required.
