“Lovely affordable accommodation”
Reviewed May 29, 2012 via mobile

If you're after simple accommodation which is a cut above the rest, look no further than the Blaumar. The rooms are large, clean and modern, the pool area is dreamy and the short walk into town is the perfect bayside stroll. Breakfast offers lots of options. Wish we could have stayed for longer. A very relaxing place! One of our favourite destinations in Spain.

The service was adequate and the rooms were good. The pool deck was lovely. I would recommend this as an affordable option during a stay in Cadaquez.

When we decided to come to Cadeques, we chose it because it was one place on the Costa Brava that seemed to maintain its original character. So many of the towns present a face covered with the glitter and glitz of Miami. But not Cadeques. Nestled in a mountain valley hugging the sea, it looks picture-postcard perfect with its white-washed buildings, red tile roofs, and indigo blue bay. With so much to see and do in this delightful place, how much time do you spend in your room? Beyond sleeping, not much! So the Blaumar certainly met our needs.

To be honest, we were somewhat disappointed with the place as we lugged our bags up the street to the entrance. (Fortunately, we found a parking spot on the street and saved the garage fee.) Even though we had asked for a room with a balcony, we feared that we would be given one that faced the street with wooden shutters that had to be kept closed for privacy. Fortunately, it was not to be. Our average-sized room featured a 2-chaired balcony that overlooked the pool and deck area. In the distance, we could see the village, the church, and a slice of the sea.

The Blaumar does have its positives: it’s immaculate. It’s simple, but comfortable. Its staff is helpful and friendly. The pool and deck offer an agreeable place to transition from day to night. Free Wi-Fi’s available in public areas. The only drawback: the cost of breakfast. At 9.75 euro per person per day, that’s a bit steep for people who only want a continental breakfast. We overcame this by walking down to the village and joining the locals at a seaside café.

Away from the restaurants, bars and beaches, across the street from a charming, little park, the Blaumar doesn’t hide the fact that it’s a 2-star hotel. As long as that’s its reality, it exceeds expectations.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony and a view.

Don't be fooled into thinking this is another run-of-the-mill two star hotel. The rooms are spacious and air-conditioned,and has a good pool which proved to be a godsend in the Sapnish heat! It's about a five minute walk from the centre of Cadaques, which means it's nice and quiet in the evenings. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming too.

We had a wonderful stay in this very charming small hotel in Cadaques. The staff are very extremely friendly and helpful! The rooms are well decorated and clean - we highly recommend the extra few euros for a village view. The garden, pool and patio are beautiful and well maintained. It is a very short walk to the centre of the village with all the restaurants and tourists. We liked the location in a quieter residential area - 2 minute walk from the ocean and close to the nicest beaches.
We thought this was the most beautiful village on the Costa Brava. We would definitely return here and to this hotel!

I spent several days researching the area and chose Hotel Blaumar for location and amenities. After multiple email conversations with the staff, we had perfect room arrangements. The hotel is just a 10 minute walk from the center of town- enough to be in a quiet area but still close enough to not have to drive. Breakfast was great and the staff was wonderful!! We can only hope we return soon. Check out my hub about Cadaques and pics of the hotel at

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the main building. Views will probably not be worth extra $$

I looked at this hotel and it sounded so wonderful I didn’t look at any others… I spent months after I’d booked looking forward to it as we’d ‘splashed out’ on it for four nights in August at the end of our holiday having spent other nights in cheaper places. I was really disappointed. I’d requested a room with a balcony and was given this. However, you can only see the view if you stand up on the small balcony as if you’re sitting down the views are blocked by the trees of the neighbouring property. The hotel does not post any prices for teas, coffees or beers and seems reluctant to offer the service (you have to ring a bell if you’d like bar service), hence no one is ever sitting in the attractive lounge/bar area and the ‘hotel’ has more of a ‘motel’ feel. The pool is great but the pool and terrace area are very small so it can get crowded and noisy. Also, unlike other hotels in Spain you must request twin beds if you want them otherwise you’ll get a double bed. I’d advise you to do more research as I’m sure other hotels offer better value for money. The best thing about this hotel is the location just 10 minutes from the noisier central area of town and five minutes from the quieter coves for swimming.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony and you must request twin beds if you'd like them.

It would want to answer this new critic, normally we accepted criticism and we did not enter valuations or answers by our part, but to this we can clarify it criticism in some aspect and to clarify some section for reading futures, always comes well to extend information. We are conscious that not always it likes the same to everybody, this serious very easy one, and is possible that to these gentlemen they did not like the hotel, or Cadaqués. These gentlemen had made a reserve towards some time of a double room with balcony, never mentioned that they wanted 2 beds, although is certain that at this time the trees of opposite are in all their splendour and deprive something the view, view that we made clear that he is not seen the sea, since we are not in forward edge of coast. When they arrived at the hotel and they saw the room, they said that they wanted 2 beds, something that were not possible since the hotel was complete, on the following day said that it had slept in the ground since it could not sleep in a double bed, but we could not change it until I complete day, that we had a room of 3 beds that we offered to him to the same price that the double one, not even was thankful for this fact to us. I understand that it says that the hotel is expensive, mainly if by your fault is called on to you to sleep in the ground, the hotel prepares in a 80% of the rooms double beds, since it is what the majority of clients asks who come from vacations and if somebody requests 2 beds to us in the reserve, we try to be so, and in case it is not possible we communicated it before reserving firmly. With respect to the service of bar, prices and others, I must clarify that they say, since in the 4 days did not use any service, neither garage, nor breakfasts, nor nothing of the bar, nor a simple water bottle. To clarify that in summer we have service of bar from the 8,30 morning, with the breakfasts, to the 12 at night that we closed the bar and terrace, to avoid noises and that the clients can rest, we have wine letter with the prices and are exposed in tables, and letter of prices they ask for if it in the bar, the letter of meals this exposed with the prices in the zone of reception. I must clarify that it is a hotel of 2 stars and that we do not have personnel with exclusive dedication for each client, and who in some we put a pulse in the bar to ask for the service of bar, which allows the personnel to be kind while it does other works in office or it cooks. Our hotel of 2 stars, is a small familiar establishment, not a Motel almost nonexistent in Spain and typical of U.S.A. and that because of the films do not have very good reputation. We tried to please the expectations of the clients, but also it is truth that the expectations of some clients we cannot satisfy them, according to which services are own of hotels of 4 or 5 stars, and prices 3 or 4 times superiors to ours. We hope that this writing serves to clarify some points, and mainly that is not our desire to overvalue the hotel, nor to sell expectations that are not in our hand, simply we hoped that our clients which they are many and of many years repeating, they are like in house, this if with norms, timetables and particular services, so that we pruned to maintain a certain order and tranquillity, thanks and are welcomes to the hotel Blaumar de Cadaqués.
