“peaceful & quiet, lovely grounds but basic and in need of a revamp”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2012

My hubby and i went for a weeks winter sun.
La Concha is rated 2 star and that is exactly what it is. Its apartments are a little dated and basic but are set in lovely peaceful grounds with two pools and plenty of reading material (books) and reading areas.
On arrival you have to find the receptionist who is also the cleaner and this took us around 30 minutes. We then had to wait a further 1.30hrs for our room to be ready as the previous occupants had decided not to leave on time.
Our apartment (number 4) was clean (ish), with the basics you need for a self catering (microwave, 2 ring cooker, fridge, pans etc). They get hoovered and mopped twice a week - yet the patio furniture (2 chairs, table and two sunbeds) gets cleaned daily. Towels are also changed twice weekly.
You definitely need to sweep daily yourself as there are an abundance of ants even in the cupboards! The bedding was old and worn as were the towels. Both were very thin with the odd hole, but were clean - except for the blankets which were needed due to the weather and were not very clean at all! The beds are comfy but the pillows are not! You get one pillow each in a joint pillow case so you cant scrunch it or move it without moving your partners!
The water is terrible!! Hot water lasts 2 minutes and is enough only to fill a small sink. we ended up boiling pans of hot water to 1/4 fill a bath as not even enough to shower in. This to me was a big issue.
There are aviaries all round the ground with a constant twitter going on - which didn't bother us at all but it might some people. There are several pestering cats and even a resident hedgehog that all come to the patio for food.
The apartments grounds are well kept and are swept/tided daily. However once a week they water the plants using a spray system that uses recycled sewerage water and it really pongs! Fab recycling but a bit smelly. Many books available to read and two pools that were just a bit too cold in Feb. A tennis court also and a spa offering treatments.
For me there is a lot of wasted space here. The empty bar could serve coffees/teas/juices and tapas which would be fabulous and there is a lovely glassed area that is just an area to read and could be utilised much better - say traditional spanish evening meals.
It is a 5/10 minute walk to the main strip, but i would advise that you head further to the harbour and the old part of the town (15/20min walk) as food there is much better, costs less and there are some lovely little restaurants and cafes The strip is much a muchness really and is a little too Blackpool for me. The beach is 2 minutes away and the dunes are about 5 minutes also.
overall - you get what you pay for and although La Concha is just what we wanted re: peace and quiet - it is in need of a little revamp and could offer so much more with a few tweaks. Would we return??? probably if they sorted out the water!

Room Tip: ask for rooms 1,2,3,4,5 as they get the most sun and although are by the aviaries are lovely and qui...

Beautiful complex, quirkey, feels tropical nearly and you have your own pool between a handful of other apartments and own sit out area. In theory this place should be perfect for budget accomodation! However, we found it noisy, there was a dog next door that never stopped barking, a bird aviary right outside our window which was really noisy, we found cockroaches in the apartment each day and the cleaning service was not very dependable not to mention unbelievably noisy when they were around. Overall, lovely well maintained complex but disappointing.

Room Tip: Dont stay at number 18 were the aviary is outside if you are a light sleeper.

The bungalows are set in lovely gardens that give each of them a real sense of privacy. We stayed in number 11 that looks out on to the smaller of the two Pools.

The rooms are basic but are clean and modern looking and the whole place feels much better than its 2 star rating. They is no on site bar area ( Just a small area by the lager pool that does cocktails but we never used it and not sure when it is manned to be honest.) but this just adds to the peaceful atmosphere.

They are situated about a 5 minute stroll from the main town with all the shops, Restaurants and Bars but are far enough away so the noise from the nightlife doesn't disturb you if thats not what your looking for. Best of all the beach is just a short minute walk away!!

Have read a lot about the beds being very hard but I found them just fine.

Room Tip: Rooms 9-12 have best all day sun

We spent 4 nights in the north of the island before heading south. The structure was even better than we had expected. NIce bouganvilles, swimming pool, and above all in a quiet place far from the noise in central Corralejo, which could be reached with a 20 min walk or a 5 min drive.

The problem of hot water seems to be common in many apartments in Fueteventura. You have to have a quick shower or wait a lot till the water gets hot again. But that was something we got used to, even though I longed for a nice long shower after a day on the beach.

For us the real issue was the bed... I've even survived the famous hard mattresses in Thailand, but this bed was really uncomfortable, one of the worst I've ever slept on. Too bad... with such a nice and quiet environment, It's really a shame I have to admiti I would not come back.

All previous reviews already explained plenty as to what this hotel consist off and how good it is, they are all spot on.
Yes, it does run out of hot water quickly, but it reheats swiftly and in this type of weather it is not such a big deal.
Great apartment (we had No.6) and it is situated in a very quiet neighbourhood. We stayed 12 days and have no problem recommending this.
Make sure you have mosquito repellent with you.

We have just returned from 5 nites in La Concha. We paid 35Euro per nite for an apartment booked through Alpharooms.com
The apartment was very clean and spacious and we had our own patio with table and chairs out the front and our back door opened out onto the pool area which had plenty of sunbeds to relax on. The complex itself is very well kept and so peaceful and relaxing. No kids, no tacky evening entertainment which was bliss. There are alot of cats around but they aren't a problem and thats coming from someone who is allergic to them!
I agree with previous posters that the hot water runs out quite quickly but in the heat who wants anything more than a lukewarm shower anyway.
It was about a 5 min walk up to the main street where there is a large selection of bars and restaurants to choose from and a further 5 min walk in the old town/marina area where there are some further restaurants as well.
All in all we would definitely return to La Concha

Just got back from a week at La Concha. Agree with the comments about the lovely setting and ideal location for town.
However, we were slightly disappointed with a few things. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, and my partner and I were actually quite cold on a number of nights with just a sheet and blanket. The shower, while powerful, is supplied with hot water from a 15 litre tank which reheats every 20 minutes. It meant switching the taps on and off while shampooing hair etc to ensure we didn't tun out of hot water before rinsing it out, and even then it was a bit hit and miss, with cold showers a regular occurance - not pleasant. And finally, the hob was pretty much useless - we couldn't even boil a pan of water to cook some pasta, it just wouldn't get hot enough. So, lovely gardens, staff and setting, but the little things were annoying enough that we probably won't return.

  • Liked — The quiet and pretty surroundings
  • Disliked — The 'prison style' beds and the lack of hot water
