“Easy on the pocket and the Eye”
Reviewed March 28, 2014

We were looking for a cheap and cheerful break for my birthday and I picked this apartment for its proximity to the old town in Corralejo....and I was not disappointed...We paid less than it would cost for a weekend accommodation in Ireland. Initially we were placed on C block on the port road. It was a bit noisy and on the 3rd floor so next day I requested a transfer and was delighted and very pleasantly surprised when they offered a pool side D block apartment on the ground floor at no extra charge. The apartment was freshly painted with great beds. There was a tea and coffee maker, microwave, fridge and double ring available and a truely wonderful powerful shower with lots of hot water. The pools were a great shape, a shallow warm one very safe for children and either a warm...or slightly less warm deep one for adults. There were lots of sun loungers available and a very good bar food at the pool side restaurant. It was a 10 min walk from the port or the old town...and had many great restaurants locally, Boa Vide brazilian food. Angus Steakhouse near the Music Square. The latter had many restaurants that offered competitively priced food and cocktails were from 4.50 euro with beer being 1 euro. The hotel had a very good supermarket for basics. The walk into the old town was either via the seafront prom past the old port or thru the backstreets to all the local pubs and restaurants. The staff were very efficient and welcoming and beds towels were changed often. The kitchen utensils were minimal and if you were cooking, people had to request extras but I did not consider it an issue as everything was spotless...and the cost of the stay was exceptionally good value. If you want 5 star pay 5 star and dont complain here. Correlejo itself has a hippy relaxed vibe. Wonderful free street music, great food and drink at reasonable prices served by very friendly spanish people who were very welcoming. Top end shops were available locally so you could shop as much as you wished either locally or 20 miles away in Puerto de Roserio. The Lanzarote ferry was available several times daily...the Timanfaya fire mountain trip was a highlight... If you want lush scenery Fuerteventura is not the destination...its basically a volcanic rock sparcely vegetated. If you like dunes they are extensive and border a truely spectacular sea...however if you like bei... at one centre based.. Corralejo is fantastic and super cheap...but windy...take a cardi...we had a great time. ps...my highlight for the trip was feeding pretzels to 7 wild but tame chipmunks on the beach at Puerto de Rosario...they galloped over when we sat down on a bench and ate the pretzels from my hands while one sat on my partners knee. I was entranced, and it was totally unexpected...someone brought over two from africa and let them loose and they bred...given the fact there is no surface water I don't know how they thrive but they did and it made my holiday...the only thing that we were disappointed with was our hirecar service.

We booked one online at 110 euros with Goldcar to pay when we got there. We were met at the Airport and transfered to their office at an industrial estate. We were in a queue for about an hour before being told that they would either provide cover at the agreed price but they would put a lien on my credit card for 600 euro or they would provide some cover for 244..a whopping jump in cost...but not apply any lien..it was late at night and we did not know where we were so we reluctantly agreed. The price included a mandatory cost of 69 euros for petrol, surplus returned petrol to be refunded...and in fairness they did give 21 e back for just under half a tank....not exactly what it cost...so be aware...there is better less expensive car hire outthere. It cost 60 euro for 5 days cover in Portugal the Christmas before with full comp insurance...with a different company..

Room Tip: Block d for pool...efg face the water..apartments are 3 stories high so if you have mobility problem...

Just returned. Accommodation clean but very basic. Outside areas all clean, nice pool.
Very impressed by lifeguard being on duty every day with life saving equipment. However, no
sunshades. No air-con in rooms - wouldn't like to stay there in height of summer. Surprised that there was no smoke alarms in rooms. Advertised as having pool bar and bar. The pool side bar is the only bar. Apparently the second bar has not been in operation for sometime and will not be re-opening. We paid extra for sea view, shame the sun never reached the balcony! A pleasant promenade walk into harbour area.

We believe that the Hesperia Bristol Play is in a good location and great value for money. The hotel staff are very professional and helpful. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The grounds of the hotel off both privacy and a lovely pool area with a heated pool. Having read previous reviews we took a gamble when we booked this hotel - but we are certainly glad that we did and wouldn't hesitate to return again. The hotel is located across the road from the sea, with a lovely promenade and walk into the old town with lots of restaurants to choose from. We believe that this hotel offers something for everybody.

I admit this is a cheap hotel and the grounds are well maintained and clean. Our room was a sea view in block G, however we couldn't make use of the balcony as it never received any sun and then was too windy. Our kitchenette was very basic and although being self catering we were unable to cook due to constant infestation of ants. The beds are very hard and the seat in the living area is very uncomfortable. Extra pillows were provided but were flat. Bathroom was a matchstick box and although the shower was powerful you would find yourself constantly entangled in the shower curtain. TV is not free (other than Spanish channels). We made the mistake of eating in the hotel on the first night, buffet style was cold, bland and limited choice. Although breakfast was free if you ate in the evening, we didn't go back! The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the main restaurants and centre of Corralejo if you go through the back streets or 30 minutes if you take the scenic walk around the coast.

In our opinion Hesperia Bristol Playa is a great value hotel and the staff are very professional and helpful. The apartments with the sea view are fantastic and worth the small extra cost. The heated swimming pools are good and there are plenty of quality sun beds. There are some palm trees around the pool if you need protection from the midday sun. The hotel location is excellent as it is only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Corralejo with all the restaurants and bars to choose from. With the hot sun, sea breeze and many hotel guests I can understand the apartments need to be constantly refurbished, so I guess your experience may depend on where the apartment is in the maintenance schedule. We have stayed at Bristol Playa several times and look forward to staying there again for another fabulous holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are best

Most rooms facing the pool as the location can be very windy, many rooms have no sun.
One of the pools is heated, swimming beaches a distance away.
Rooms basic, kettle, microwave, fridge, cutlery and crockery minimal, take tea towel and kitchen cleaning items, small gel and shampoo in adequate 4p bathroom.
TV e4 per day, poor selection of channels, BBC world (good for African news) sound missing or poor. SKY news sound broken up. Best not depend on TV.
WIFI in reception poor performance.
Safe extra.
Did not use dining facilities which consisted of basic buffet (e12) with free voucher for breakfast (e6).
Sheltered areas for sunbathing, plenty of loungers round the pleasant pool.
Supermarkets nearby on the way to the bus station also nice restaurant and two chicken cafes.
Fair walk to bars etc in the centre, couple of rock bars and some acoustic pubs.
Overall, dated, minimally equipped good location if you like walking and like it quiet, (no bar) not so good if you don't.

Room Tip: Choose high room for quietness and privacy or ground floor to avoid steps or with children (but be e...

The Hesperia Bristol Playa, Corralejo, Fuerteventura is possibly the “ugly duckling” in terms of the “NH Resorts” hotels portfolio. The external and internal fabric of the apartotel has been exposed to many years of weather and customers leaving it a bit shabby in places and in some need of tlc and investment. Unfortunately this shortfall in the holiday experience isn’t masked by the very friendly and helpful Bristol staff who work tirelessly to make each guests stay a happy one. In terms of specifics we were allocated room 166 which is definitely one to avoid if you want a view and a sunny outlook. A swap to room 345 was decidedly better for our week’s stay in February 2014 although it came at an extra €10 per night. All rooms are fairly basically kitted out in terms of furniture and kitchen items, so not really the place for creating elaborate culinary offerings or comfy days or nights on the settee. If you have a surf board, kite or mountain bike or just want lie on a sun bed and want a clean no frills 3 star apartment with a nice pool then the Bristol Playa could be your spot.

We visited Corralejo February 2014 and previously 22 years earlier (1992). Perhaps in another 22 years the town may get the pavements finished? But I somewhat think not – that’s manyana for ya, have a good one.

Room Tip: A good policy here would be to inspect your room first and make your mind up if you like it before u...
