Hotel Hesperia Bristol Playa
Ranked #21 of 45 Hotels in Corralejo
Reviewed January 23, 2013

This was the first time we stayed at Hesperia Bristol Playa, but we had a really enjoyable stay. Apartment was suitable for our needs and clean and comfortable. Situation was ideal for walking into town, to shops and restaurants and close to the Spanish Square where we enjoy going every evening, to eat or drink. We also hire a car from the airport on arrival ( as we holiday in Fuerteventura regularly ) and the apartments are easily found and with parking outside or nearby.
Would definitely stay again :)

We have just returned from 10 nights at the Bristol Playa in room 205 and overall had a very good holiday.
We first went to the Bristol Playa approx. 12 years ago when it had just been refurbished and it is now very tired and overdue a further refurbishment. The doors and cupboards don't close properly and the bathroom door didn't close at all. Hesperia are surely a large enough group to take the " bull by the horns ", close it for 3/4 months and completely refurbish all the rooms. For an apartment that could house 3 people there were only 2 cups 2 glasses, no toaster, no frying pan of any sort and a kettle that leaked and could easily have caused an electrical fire.
Having said that the staff were very helpfull and sorted these problems out very quickly.
We could not fault the cleaning staff and in fact all the staff were doing a good job in trying circumstances.
One thing I strongly object to is having to pay 4 euros a day, or 21 euros a week, just to get BBC World News. Practically the only English speaking channel available for free was CNBC an American financial channel.
We would prefer to use the Dunas Club but it depends on price.

We stayed in this hotel as it had everything we wanted. The pool was great, it was close to the town, and it was an apartment which we prefer to hotels. The room was spacious and clean and we paid for a sea view which was well worth it, especially at sunset. We also rented a bike from the hotel and went along the off road route which I recommend although you will probably get sunburnt. The same applies if you go to the sand dunes and walk for a while; beware the nudist beach unless you are like me and aren’t scared to just just get involved! The hotel was easy to find and if you want my advice, don’t pay the silly prices of airport transfers; catch the bus! It’s only about 4 euro and I think its bus number 3 from the airport to the mini station, then 6 to Corralejo although I might be wrong; best to google it. The bus goes up the edge of the town so just get off at the stop just before the corner. That’s the best I can describe sorry, but it’s very easy and will save you money! Overall the hotel is very cheap and very nice and I would recommend to anyone of humble backgrounds. Happy holidays!

We booked this holiday and asked for a quiet place with balcony and close to a few bars and restaurants as we planned to eat out most of the time. On arrival my heart sank as we turned into the complex and saw at the end of the road a building straight out of colditz. I mentioned this to the rep who said no no its lovely here and we have a lovely room for you with sea views!! Yes, our room did have sea views but we had to look over the car park to see it. Our terrace not balcony looked out onto the utility cupboard where the cleaners were in and out all the time. The bedroom had no windows the whole apartment was dark and damp. We complained to our rep who managed to get us moved to an apartment with balcony overlooking the pool. Still this was drab. The beds were exceptionally hard and one night I decided to sleep in the lounge on the sofa. This was made of foam and had hardboard underneath. The fridge was rusty with age we had minimal crockery and cutlery and the microwave was so disgusting and looked like it had come straight from a skip. The bars and restaurants were a mile hike away but the town was beautiful. On several occassions we witnessed surfers washing themselves and their surfing gear and clothes in the swimming pool. Gross!! The only thing they provided us with out of the things we requested was peace and quiet as I think most guests were eager to get out each day and come back as late as possible. Everything in these apartments are old tired and delapitated and could do with a complete refurb. On the plus side the staff were friendly and there is free wifi .......but out of 4 computers only one was working most of the time.

We have never been away for Christmas before but due to family circumstances we decided to have a change and required a two bedroomed apartment.l

Thomas Cook found this one for us at The Bristol Playa. The hotel is as previously mentioned in reports in need of some modernisation but the staff in reception were very friendly and helpful.

We were very fortunate to have a top floor apartment with both a pool and sea view no 335 and the sun was on some part of the balcony which was huge as it continued round the side of the building at all times of the day.

The cooking facilities were not up to much for self catering but there was a toaster and kettle and apart from breakfast of cereal and toast we usually eat out anyway.

All in all we enjoyed the holiday very much as we had very good weather apart from boxing day which was overcast but we had already booked a trip to Lanzarote that day so it didn't really affect us.

Most days were in the high twenties in the sunshine and it was lovely to walk around the resort calling at several tavernas on route.

Would go back again but may try a different hotel next time if we are unable to get the same room.

Room Tip: We were happy with the room that we had as it was 2 bedrooms and a large balcony very spacious and h...

holiday was not overall spoilt but having cockroaches in the room was not my idea of sharing (see fotos )we had to complain about room service , that was sorted and the room cleaned everyday after that, we stayed from the 2nd jan 2012 till 9th jan 2012 , and as i said the hotel was not very good but we did not let it spoil our little getaway, at least we had 7days of sun and warm weather . one excellent point to tell you about , was a restaurant we visited called the LA LUNA , excellent food and service gihuge portions , almost as if you was taking part in the man v food programme and wery reasonable as well , only 10 minutes walk along the prom towards the harbour . i would certainly go back to corralejo but definetly not that hotel again, but as other reviews state it is really a very quiet hotel in the evenings. the only other excellent thing about the hotel was our Thomas Cook Rep Claire Bird , she was brilliant in handling peoples complaints or problems , i wish we could have more reps like her , or just generally being there

Room Tip: groundfloor with seaview

The Bristol Playa feels isolated situated where it is, with a fair walk through the backstreets to get to all the main bars and restaurants, which can feel a bit intimidating at night, unless you walk the longer way along the coastal route. A sea view apartment would be okay apart from a sewer stench which we could clearly smell each time we walked that way.

On arrival at our accommodation we were informed by the reception clerk that we had been allocated 'a beautiful pool view apartment', and that we would 'love it'. The reality was quite the opposite.

Our 'beautiful' apartment was on the first floor in the far corner of block F, where was a sliver of a pool view, but only if you craned your neck to see from one side of the small terrace. The apartment looked and smelled dirty, dank and damp, with mould clearly visible on the walls and ceiling of the bedroom in particular, as well as the curtains. The bedding was old and poor quality and the mattresses were uncomfortable, and because the room was so cold and damp, so was the bedding. The apartment never received direct sunlight into the rooms, front or back, which made matters worse, so that at night the bedroom was even colder and smelled musty, with condensation forming on the windows.

The fixtures and fittings were old, worn out and in some cases broken, with loose wall fittings, sparse mismatched chipped crockery and utensils, dirty grouting, rusty shower rail and dish drainer, and a shower head which leaked through the perished plastic. The cost of our booking included a supplement for two adult occupancy, yet I can't imagine where two more people could be accommodated in this apartment, as even the settee in the living room was not a sofabed, with just a piece of plywood beneath the worn-out sponge seat instead of springs.

When we complained immediately to the desk clerk and asked to change, he was unsympathetic, and said it was one of the better apartments in the complex and that he could do nothing at the moment because they were fully booked, but to return the next day when he was back on reception and he'd see what was available.

The fact that the clerk in question wasn't on reception again next afternoon spoke volumes, but by that time we'd already complained to our Thomas Cook representative at the welcome meeting the following morning, and asked to be moved to alternative accommodation. We were not the only guests with a complaint; whenever we had cause to be in reception, we witnessed other guests complaining that something was broken or missing from their apartment, or asking to move (there were two other couples at our own welcome meeting in fact, with similar complaints).

Our holiday rep couldn't have been more helpful, and though we eventually found somewhere else ourselves, she gave us help and advice about alternatives nearby, and worked with the Thomas Cook Fuerteventura office who eventually arranged our relocation.

The rest of our holiday was fantastic because we spent it elsewhere, but it could have been dreadful if we'd stayed longer than two nights at the Bristol Playa. Avoid it like the plague.
