“It's like Marmite, you'll either love it or hate it”
Reviewed November 6, 2011

We stayed as a family of two adults and two teenagers (14 and 15) over the October half term week. The hotel is situated in the North of the island and about a 40-minute transfer from the airport. If you arrive late in the evening they open the restaurant and provide a small cold buffet for you, which is a nice gesture after a long journey.
The Oasis Village is a 3 star hotel that does what it says on the tin, some people will love this hotel and some people will hate it, not because the hotel is bad but because it just won’t suit all. If you’re used to 4 star holidays, this may not be for you. If you like Haven/Butlins type holidays and have children under 10, it’s probably right up your street. The hotel is in a very good location, beach 10/15-minute walk, and town 10 minutes. No sea view from hotel but nice and quiet area with everything on your doorstep.

The welcome meeting is worth going to we found it quite informative and booked a couple of worthwhile trips from it. (Its not pushy sales)!

The Pool Area – Is lovely, the pool is clean, refreshing and has plenty of sunbeds and shade. If you are desperate for that ‘prime’ location around the pool you will need to put your towel (in high season) out by 7.30am to secure your spot. The pool bar is well located with a seating area and can’t be faulted. Music and entertainment starts at 11am – 1pm then 2.30pm-5.00pm, the lower pool is a lot quieter. Pool towels are not provided so remember to pack your own.

Entertainment – The team do a worthy job, although, again this wont be everyone’s cup of tea, Craig is fantastic, the kids (and adults) love him. I felt the entertainment hall (for evenings) let it all down, hot, stuffy, bad sound, tepid atmosphere, it just didn’t feel like a place you wanted to spend your evening on holiday!

Restaurant/Food – The restaurant is not a place for a nice family meal, its just somewhere to eat, the food is not great, you won’t starve by any means but we ate out 5 nights out of 7, we wanted to soak up some atmosphere of Corralejo and enjoy our family time together and on that note the hotel restaurant just didn’t deliver. No problem with getting a table, and staff work so hard, never an empty plate left on a table for long. A recommendation in the town has to be the Amber Indian Restaurant, look for the Red Cross Pharmacy Sign and turn right, the best Indian food we have had and very reasonably priced, you can get up to 35% off if you manage to get a yellow leaflet from the man on the main strip looking for customers, although get there before 8pm, it’s a busy little place.

Drinks – Tropical Beer is good and cold; Spirits are local brands and rough!! Cocktails are pre made and watered down, can’t comment on the wine. Bottles of water are not provided in your all-inclusive package and can be bought from the bar for a euro or so, there is a water fountain by the pool bar where you get fill up for free.

Staff – Work extremely hard, polite, no problems here at all.

Cats - There are about 4 cats that belong to the village, they are clean, de-flead and very healthy, they are all female and have a part of their ear cut at the top to show they have been neutered, the cats are very domesticated and friendly but never scrounge for food. Cats are smart if you’re not a cat person they will know to leave you alone and cause you no bother.

Supermarket – Out of hotel and turn right, 100 yards is the HipoDino Supermarket, all you need is here and handy to have so close to the hotel.

Internet Access – There is Wi-Fi at the hotel, we took a netbook with us, it works in three places in the hotel, the main one being reception area, which is spacious with large sofa’s. There is an Internet station with 3 computers 1 euro for 10 minutes but they rarely worked or crashed continually.

Things to do – On a rainy day, we took the number 6 bus (every half an hour) into Puerto Del Rosario (the capital) where there is a 4 storey shopping centre (including a C&A) with an array of good shops (my teenage girls loved it) – Worth the trip and killed a few hours on a non-sunbathing day. Takes about 30 minutes on the bus and is the last stop (Terminates at the Bus Station)

We also went to Oasis park (that’s another review) in my opinion I wouldn’t go out of your way for it, especially if you have been to similar parks in other countries, it takes a good 1hr 30 minutes in a bus and with small children could be a long day, you get picked up at 9am and don’t get back till 7.45pm. There a a couple of restaurants on site, food not bad, but overpriced like all parks of this type, wherever you are in the world.

Legends Music Hall Tavern – Is a family friendly drag show with a 3 course meal and wine/beer included, if you book through the welcome meeting children go free, the bus collects you at 6.50pm and your return around 12pm. It is really funny and a great night out. Look out for the owner (Nigel) you may recognise him from a famous TV show !!

Local Market – Is next to the water park (10 mins walk) and on a Monday and Friday 9am-1pm, it’s a medium size but has the same brands, items on every other stall ! If you look or touch anything you are hounded, okay for a laugh and a bit of bartering but gets a bit annoying after a while.

Corralejo Town – If you come out of the hotel and turn left, past the big water slide and take a right (past the Oasis Dunas) you start the main strip (Its probably 2 miles long) there is an array of shops, bars, restaurants, it is not tacky and feels very safe. Two bars that stand out on the strip are Retro Bar (towards the top) and Rock Café both have live music every night and seem busy. Flicks is halfway down and is a great night out for the family (again teenagers will love it here) with a karaoke bar and a lounge bar with an adjoining terrace that link the two. A Thursday, Friday and Saturday are the best nights to go and probably not till around 10pm.

The strip leads all the way down to the music square and a harbour, a bit more secluded and romantic if you’re a couple looking for that candlelit meal.

Taxi’s are everywhere and easy to find, about 3.50 euro from town back to the hotel.

The Beach – We went to Waikiki Beach, (Follow the main strip till you see the shop that sells only white clothing and take a right) this is a lovely, safe, family friendly beach with a couple of beach bars, sunbeds and parasols.

Overall, a nice break away, would not return to Oasis Village but would go self catering in Corralejo anytime…

We stayed for a week at the end of September, two adults and two girls aged 4 and 7.

I'm struggling to rate this really as the hotel definitely has many flaws, however you've got to be realistic about it given that we only payed £400 for all of us for the week, all inclusive.

The swimming pools are great. It's the first time I've used saltwater pools, and while I prefer normal pools, the pools were very clean and really big. They were warm enough and the kids loved them.

The girls used the kids club a few times. While they said they enjoyed it, there were very few other children there, and they didn't seem to do much other than colour in. Note that if you haven't booked through Thomas Cook then you have to pay for the kids club.

The nightime entertainment wasn't too bad, but for us they could cut the bingo, play your cards right and all the other daft stuff. The actual entertainment didn't start until at least 10pm on most nights, but they were mainly OK once underway.

Kids "disco" was fairly poor, consisting of hide and seek, and at most one or two songs for the kids to dance to. It lasted 30 minutes. They also have a karaoke at the end of the night bit they had the smallest choice of songs I've ever seen!

I think the worst thing for us was the food. It's weird because some people seemed to love it, while others hate it. We always managed to find something, but the choice is limited. On a number of occasions, the only "meat" choice available was meatballs. (they had meatballs on at least 5 times in a week). There were a couple of nights where the food was good though and we certainly didn't starve. (mexican night and a quality roast on Sunday night)

The rooms are quite large. Fairly basic but they were clean. They do get quite hot on a night with no aircon, and I can imagine that in the summer they would be unbearable without hiring a fan. Staff were all friendly and worked hard. Never had to queue for anything more than about 5 minutes. On a night they serve drinks in real glasses for the first hour or so, and then it's back to plastic cups after that. No issues with the drinks.

I would stay here again as for the money we payed it represented good value, however I couldn't really recommend it as a great place to stay.

We stayed at the oasis village for a week on the 15th october 2011, we were a party of 13 ranging from 9-70 in age. We all had clean spacious room, some of us were in A block and the others were in B block. Pool were kept clean and the entertainment was very good, we loved the water volley ball , polo and spash bingo! Night time entertainment was also good lots on offer and different things each night. The thomas cook team were fantastic! The food had plenty of choice, always hot! everything was clean and tidy, waiters worked really hard too! In all, a fab holiday and would definitely go back :)

We have just returned from the Oasis Village, I went with hubby and two sons aged 17 and 14. I have to say I had mixed feelings due to some of the reviews I had read. I thought that the hotel was a very spacious, a well maintained 3 star hotel. The rooms were massive, with a kitchen, living area, seperate bathroom(which was massive) and seperate bedroom. It was clean and the maid came every day to clean and change the towels. There are two pools on the complex a lively pool where all the daytime activities take place and a quieter pool, both were clean and there were plenty of sun beds. The food was basic, with not a major amount of choice but you have to remember this is 3 star, we did not starve, there was always something to eat, but I would say a week is long enough the food would become boring for any longer. Don't let that put you off, its a well priced hotel so we went out a couple of nights, the surrounding shops and plaza areas are really nice. The beach is within walking distance and is nice. I felt very safe here. There are trips and days out which can be booked through the tour operators but I thought that these were pricey. We had a chilled week, the weather was good, thats all you need in October.

Room Tip: We had an upper floor room, which I would recommend as there is no air conditioning, we left the doo...

So if your not fussy and want good value for your money and a bit of fun book this it is in a walking distance to the main town but we got a taxi most of the time as we had older people with us it only cost about 3.50 or less

We have just returned from a week at the Oasis Village with our two children 6yrs and 22month old and have had an excellent holiday,We read some of the reviews about the hotel and were concerned regarding the standard of accomodation and facilities. We can honestly say that for a 3star status apartment hotel the overall standard ranged from average to good.
The service for the all inclusive package was good with only minimal waiting times to be served for drinks,Our only complaint was that the food on the buffet and BBQ were not being replenished quick enough,The apartment rooms were large and clean but without aircon a fan is a must which we took out with us.
The hotel encourages clients to leave rewiews on Trip Advisor and we suggested that they read them! with a few improvements the Hotel would be better.
We got a good deal on this holiday and it was good value for money-You get what you pay for!
We would return if we got a similar deal another year

Room Tip: If possible pack a Fan -Its far cheaper than buying or hiring one
