4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2011

Reviewed by someone who has stayed in a rubbish 1* dive in Spain to 5* luxury in Crete so I know the difference in hotels. I am 32 years old and went to OP with my wife of the same age.

Reception/Room
When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a lovely receptionist who gave us maps and some other information (good start). Found the room, it was near the bottom of the complex but seeing as we’re fit and able people it wasn’t an issue.
The room was a decent size for two, separate living area from the bedroom, big bathroom, mini kitchen, and terrace. All was fairly clean, usual dust under the bed but nothing awful.
We had a couple of issues with the shower (head fell off the wall and the lack of hot water) these were reported to the reception and these were both fixed pretty quickly. Also had a bulb out on the terrace, again reported to the reception and this was fixed within 30 mins. No bug problems, we had a few ants on the terrace but after quick spray from some nuclear stuff that was in the room they all disappeared. You had to pay for the TV, but seeing as i'm on holiday I never bothered with it.

Food
This was as expected really, buffet food… Just average, but I didn’t really expect 5* Michelin food. Breakfast was ok, Lunch was the best meal of the day, Dinner was average again but what can the hotel do when they’re catering for hundreds of people over a 3 hour period. The soft drinks was diluting juice and was pretty horrible, the fizzy drink concentrate hadn’t been mixed very well either but I stuck to the beer which was ok. My wife found it hard to drink many things as it was either too strong or diluted incorrectly but it’s not the end of the world.

Entertainment
Pretty awful to be honest, I suppose they're limited with what they can do. I can’t speak for the kid’s entertainment as we didn’t have anything to do with that but I never saw a glum face.
5 swimming pools, is more than enough for any hotel – we never once had an issue getting a lounger and a shade, the pool at the bottom of the resort was better as it was quieter and had fewer kids. The kids pool at the bottom of the complex looked good though it was separate from the main pool and was only a foot deep, parents only needed to keep one eye on them (from my limited child experience).

I know people go to an all inclusive hotel expecting pure luxury and everything free, and when it’s not up to their expectation then it gets a bad review which in turn puts people off. I know I was nearly put off myself, but I booked a cheap holiday and I definitely got my money’s worth. We didn’t like the entertainment so we walked the 20 mins down the road into the town and went to a few bars where there were loads of live bands on (go to Rock Island, cracking live acoustic sessions – watch out for a guy called Wayne Brennan who’s plays on a Tuesday and Sunday, one of the best guitar players I’ve seen!). You obviously have to pay for drinks but with the all inclusive finishing at 11pm it's a good option so after your meal you can walk into town, anyway you get fed up of drinking small beers out of plastic cups plus my wife could get a decent cocktail. We also ate out twice, as buffet food does get samey - we paid €35 for a main course and pudding each got a free bottle of house wine and a Flamenco show. A taxi back to the hotel was only €4.

The beach is a fair trek away, it didn’t look too far on the map – 40 mins walking in the baking sun isn’t recommended but it was worth it as the views from the beach are pretty good. There is a frequent bus service or get a taxi.

Everyone has a different holiday experience, we had a good one and I’d probably go back.

Cheers

Arrived back on the 7th September and have to say that we were very impressed with this hotel. It was our first holiday abroad with our children and we were quite anxious prior to going. However we had no reason to worry as the staff were fantastic, especially with the children. The rooms were very clean, towels changed every other day and bedding changed regularly. We were all inclusive and found the food of a good standard. Corralejo itself was a little run down and quiet but then came alive at night and the beaches were out of this world!
The two main entertainers Tuber and Robbie were also good, the children enjoyed dancing on the stage and the kids club. My hubby also enjoyed playing water polo and football.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely return to this hotel.

We are a couple and stayed here half board for a week (Sept 2011). It's definately not 4 stars more like 3 as per thompson claim. After checking in late (11pm ish) they was some issue with the key so they gave us the cleaners key (we didnt know this at the time), when getting to the room quite a considerable distance with bags the key didnt open it as it seemed to be locked from the inside. After going back it took some considerable time about 45 minutes for them to give us another room. Was a big disappointment when we were tried.

When we finally arrived in the room it was quite big split in to bedroom, bathroom, living area (with kitchen oppestite bathroom). No air con just a fan and windows, was a room safe at responable cost (15 euro per week plus 10 euro's deposit) we used this as it's essential when going on any holiday in my opinion.

No ants, cockroaches and room was generally clean (sofa beds could have been cleaner but what id expect in with something used everyday ish).

Food - we had breakfast most days it was more like a value tesco breakfast canteen food, did the job but nothing special (sausages wasnt that tastie etc but i'd say they were tesco value if they had that over their). We ate in the evenings twice wasnt very impressed at the quality of food not much english choice, also food was over cooked. Don't get me wrong in my opinon the food was edibable but not enjoyable. My advice is eat by the docks as its very cheap or on the main strip. Tapas was amazing there overlooking the docks.

Location - about 12 minutes walk to main food places, 20 minutes to docks (may have been 25). Walk down very easy as downhill, coming back not as easy especially in the heat of the day best to get local bus as was 2.20 euro for two of us (number 6).

We didn't use the hotel club bar, sounded like the classic spanish club bar though bingo, load music and annoying dj.

Pools were clean and tidy few cracked tiles but nothing dangerous.

Notes for the manager if they're reading:
- Improve your food quality and offer a little more english choice on the days when you run food (chips or burger yes very english i know but when your hake fish is so over cooked)
- Employee some more staff during known busy checkin periods
- Your room direction signs can be confusing for example we were in 9X but wasn't listed on the first few you come to not until half way round the complex
- Some more local information about buses, the train that goes past, how to get to harbor, dunes, beaches, etc. Reception were very helpful but we dont mind reading either!

Room Tip: Room's on A are on top floor, B on bottom - as you have no aircon you want a room on upper floor...

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
We are looking at ways to speed up check-in at busy times and to guide guests to there rooms more easily after their arrival.
Local information is available at reception but we will improve on its display and ease of use.
We have already started adjusting the dinner and lunch menus and are looking at ways of improving the breakfast which currently offers a cooked English breakfast and continental options for a many other guests of different nationalities. Light snacks of burgers, salads and cakes are available in the pool bar as another lunch option for those who prefer to stay by the pools.
As a final note, in previous years the hotel was marketed as a 4 star Super Family club with a tour operator run animation team. For 2011, that contract was not agreed and we remain as an official 3 key property under the Spanish system. However, many customers at the beginning of the season were not correctly informed of this change and were understandably disappointed.

When you see so many negative reviews of a hotel you worry.....and in this case with good reason. The Oasis Papagayo is a mish-mash of disappointent on just about every level. It is in no world a 4 star hotel as Thompson claim. On arrival the place didnt look too bad....that was before we ate and the sun came up. The food is truley horrific. The buffet restaurant is lile a school canteen. Breakfast consists of of undercooked bacon, frankfurter sausages and re-heated baked beans from god knows how many days. Lunch is even worse - burgers, hot dogs, soggy chips and salad. It really has to be seen to be believed. The evening buffet is pretty much the same product - stodgy, tasteless food. If your going to stick to one thing, the cold salads are just about edible. The 'a la carte' option is nothing of the sort!! Its the same buffet in a different restaurant! The quality of food is just horrendous and the hotel should be ashamed of themselves for serving it.

Ever seen the tv programme Benidorm? Well the club bar is a cheap, yes cheap version of that hotel. It is more like a hanger than a bar with zero atmosphere not helped by the truely shocking 'entertainment'. It is so bad. They play bingo every evening which is very loud and almost impossible to play as it is so dark in there. First prize unbelievably is a real tatoo.....classy!

The accomadation itself is not too shabby. No signs of any cockroaches or ants in the room and was clean. However, we did not get a maid service every day and when we did the sheets were not changed all week. We could not believe the cheek of having to pay 4 euros a day to use the tv!

The pool areas are reasonably clean and tidy though watch the gaps between the tiles.

All in all, the hotel is just an un-organised mess, with awful food and entertainement. I wouldnt recommend or go back to this hotel if you paid me.

We stayed here in March/April 2011 - never again.
The entertainment was dreadful, and considering the time of year you would think they would try and keep people in their complex to drink and be entertained in the evenings.
The concert hall (dont know what else to call it) was very third rate, people did not stay long, wonder why - the stage area was very poor. We felt sorry for the entertainers as they looked just as embarressed as we felt.
We did not stay Al but rented a private apartment on site so cannot comment on the food or general entertainment. We noticed a lot of people went to Tiffanys to eat - the food was really good there and we felt welcomed by them not like the staff at OASIS. We were there for about 4 weeks, it felt more like 4 years!!!!

Room Tip: dont stay there unless you hire a car to get out and about

Having only been General Manager of the resort since July 2011, I cannot comment on guests' experiences in March/ April but I am sorry that their reviews are not very positive.

We have been working hard all summer to ensure that past deficiencies in all areas are corrected. New menus have been introduced in September to cater for all of our international guests. Extra staff have also been recruited to improve customer service and cleaning schedules The entertainment programme is being revised and our many sports facilities are being updated and improved to meet the growth in demand from the sports tourism market which will also enable us to offer better family fun for future guests.

After reading some of the views on here i wasn't sure what to expect but we had a wonderful hoilday . Our room was clean and spacious we never had any cochroaches in our room. The grounds were beautiful lots of palm trees and pretty flowers. Our children and us enjoyed the 5 pools and jacuzzi . The food was good the kids never came away hungry. And our children really will miss Tuba and Roberto who were in charge of the entertainment. Tuba was great with the kids and our children play the hoilday c.d over and over now we are home showing of all the dances Tuba taught them. The daytime entertanment is based around the 3 salt water pools and while we were there we had kids and adult water polo. there was football. Splash dance , Splash bingo and water aerobics.
Night time entertainment always stared with kids games and dancing followed by bingo and a show. The shows included a parrot show, magic show, flamingo dancing plus more.
Overall We had a great family hoilday .

I work in Travel and have had the benefit of staying in a wide variety of types and quality of accomodation and having read some of the write up's on here was a little worried about what I would find. I was pleasantly suprised by the what I experienced and would recommend this resort for anyone looking for a good budget value holiday.
Check in was very quick and easy and the two rooms we had booked for our party of six were clean and pleasantly furnished with everything you would need to do some basic cooking if you wanted to.
The rooms were cleaned at least three times in our week long stay with a change of towels each time.
The main pool area was clean and hosed down each night and the pools cleaned each day. We never struggled to get beds and did not have to do a towel run each day to bag them.
Staff both for kids/adult entertainment were fun and very intercative with the multinationality guests at the resort. Staff serving at the bars and in the restaurant were again friendly and helpful.
Their was a wide variety of food to choose on each night. You could not describe it as cordon bleu both in terms of tantalising your taste buds or in the presentation on the tables but it was more than edible . But if you like your food on holiday to be top quality each night this is not the place for you.
The only let down was the nightly entertainment which was dated and the Club Bar in need of revamping as it let the rest of the resort down. Having said that a 5 - 10 minute stroll took you to central town where you had more variety. A recommended restaurant in town is the La Casita on the main street. Excellent service and great food again at reasonable prices for a family.
Overall I would rate 7 out of 10 for a budget family holiday.
