“Not impressed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2006

Very unimpressed. We paid a lot of money for a family holiday here in August 06 and we cannot recommend this hotel. It might be alright for a cheap out of season deal, but for what was supposed to be a 3*+ hotel, we were very very disappointed.

As has been said before: lighting very poor and signs not good, so you will need a torch to find your room if you arrive in the dark. Also be aware that the local shops shut around 9.30/10.00pm so if you're arriving late, make sure you pick up some water otherwise you're going to have to go without til the morning!

Worryingly, there is no fire detection system in any room and no way of raising the alarm!! No extinguishers or fire blankets in rooms. There are a few 2 gallon water extinguishers dotted around outside, but these would be pretty useless.

I don't know how they took the photo in the brochure, but it is impossible to see the sea and the swimming pool at the same time. It is a good 15 minute walk to the nearest (Waikiki) beach, or a few euros in a taxi.

Do not accept a downstairs room: we had to move due to the noise from above and backing onto a main road. They weren't particularly rowdy, it was just walking and moving chairs echoing around ! (Oh, we didn't have hot water for 3 days either, despite reporting it daily)

Be prepared to pay for everything apart from a fridge and 2 electric rings! The TV will cost you!

Don't hire anything from the hotel, apart from safety deposit box, but wander down into town and do some bartering: you can buy toasters/fans etc cheaper than you can hire them. If you're self catering for a family for a week, you're very quickly going to run out of food options.

Pool bar ok for a quick drink or an icecream, but food worryingly poorly cooked and expensive. Waiters incredibly rude (I was looking for hidden cameras!!).

If you are veggie, there is an Iceland franchise up the road that does Linda McCartney and Quorn products (the only one on the island).

Maid service variable, but pretty good overall.

Reception staff abrupt to the point of rudeness.

Airtours Escape club useless: expected to pay for trips on daily basis! (Laser wars trip very good though!). Pool tables & air hockey always out of action.

Pool had nice layout, but very salty and of questionnable cleanliness. Lifeguards were around, but didn't seem to be aware of what was going on around them.

Grounds/gardens appear to be well looked after.

Rooms very hot (yes I know it's the Canaries, but there is next to no ventilation and you can't leave the windows open at night for security reasons).

Evening "Entertainment" embarrassingly bad.

  • Liked — nothing
  • Disliked — lack of ventilation
  • Tips/Secrets — shop around and find better accomodation much cheaper!

Just got back from a great holiday staying at Oasis Dunas. Please IGNORE all the negative comments we had a great time. Maid service was excellent, reception was busy and polite (difficult when people are coming from all directions demanding things). pool cleaned daily and life guards attentive and on duty, entertainment as an earlier lady said "they try hard". Beautiful landscaped gardens

Complex was fantastic, beautiful buildings and great layout.

My only negative comment would be about the town/island. It is very expensive for self catering and is probably cheaper to eat out.

Had a great time

  • Liked — Spacious for 4 people, plenty of storage space

I was a bit worried after reading some of the recent bad reviews about the Oasis but I actually found the complex ok. If I paid for a 4/5 star hotel then I would be complaining, but the Oasis is a 3 star basic complex which is what I paid for.

The pool was nice, although by the end of the day the filters got blocked which caused a substance (clogged up sun tan lotions ect) to float about. However the pool was spacious & a daily game of water polo went down well with adults & children.

The rooms were cleaned nearly everyday and the staff were friendly but the best part of the hotel is the location:; Shops, Markets, Beaches, Bars, Resturants, Waterparks, Mini-golf ect are all just a stones throw away.

  • Liked — roomy

Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Oasis Dunas. Our party of 9 included 5 children ranging in ages from 10 - 15. We booked two rooms both on the ground floor. The room in C Block (C114) was awful! The smell of damp in the front bedroom was overpowering and the wardrobe unuseable due to the smell. C Block is also very noisy at night as other guests are trying to find their rooms (all rooms look the same!) Our friends' room in B Block was better in that there was no smell and it was further away from the main entertainment area and so a little quieter at night. On the plus side there seemed to be a lot of entertainment for young children at the complex both during the day and evening and the children all looked like they were having fun. Evening entertainment for the adults was a bit hit and miss but the reps certainly try hard! Thought the water park was a bit expensive but the kids loved it. Found eating out at the harbour restaurants more enjoyable and better value for money than the restaurants on the main strip. To sum up the resort has some fantastic beaches with clear water, great for snorkeling but the Oasis Dunas desparately needs updating

We have just returned from a weeks holiday staying at these apartments(3 girls on a girly holiday). The location of the hotel is perfect, 10 min walk into the centre and nice and quiet at night. On arrival, we were given a map to show us our apartment but it might be helpful to have staff to show guests their aparment as the complex is very dark, particularly when you don't know where you are going and tugging a heavy case. Also staff could have told people that there were trolleys available which we spotted the next day!! The staff are OK, some more friendly than others but all speak excellent english.
There is no airconditioning so at night it can be a bit hot, we eventually left the window and patio door open at our own risk but had we had children with us I don't think I'd have done so.
The sunbeds are all reserved by 8 30ish with towels not everyone's idea of a holiday!!! The green sunloungers are more comfortable than the white. The pool was clean and there appeared to be a couple of lifeguards on duty everyday. The pool bar food is basic, chips, sandwiches etc but the staff are very nice and friendly. If you don't like instant coffee then you will have to hire a perculator although we brought our own which was the best move we made.Everything is for hire, you name it they have it for hire.
There is a laundry room with a washing machine and drier, very handy. Emilio, the masseur is excellent, speaks good english and made me feel very comfortable although the massage area is right beside the laundry and showers so can be noisy, but would definitely recommend.
My main gripe is checking out. Changeover days are Wednesday and Saturday. No one was allowed to keep their apartment after 12 which meant there was luggage everywhere in the lobby until 5 or 6. There is a left luggage room, about the size of the bathroom so you can imagine the chaos. This is the first time ever I have been away and unable to extend the apartment for a small fee. It would not be difficult to coordinate the whole thing but clearly the hotel are not interested on doing this and on that basis alone I would not stay here as it was just such hassle and very difficult to relax for the day. Showers are provided, 2 for women, same for men, can you imagine everyone converging on the showers at 4! Luckily we had twigged this and got there a little earlier.
We did not try the bars or the entertainment although it looked tacky enough. The other guests all seemed very nice Irish, British and Spanish and mainly families.
Imagine is a great live music bar downtown, near Shell station,if you are into the classics played by Eric, he plays every night except Thurs but someone else steps in. Great tapas bar for AUTHENTIC food Carracoles, just off the pedestrian square and la Taberna, behind the commercial centre is great for italian and paella. Overall, Correlejo is just fantastic, not a loud hotspot so if that's what you are in to then Gran Canaria would be a better bet. Great for r&r.

well dont read anything else till you read this!!! Come back from 2 weeks early to mid july and all i can say is wow!!!!, from the minute of arriving till we departed it was the best holiday ever. Travelled alone as a single mother with a 10 and 13 year old lad, instantly we made friends with staff, other families. They were always helpful, the rooms where clean (but basic), the pool was not dirty but cleaned daily and every couple of hours but if people are gonna chuck rubbish in then what do you expect a miracle!!?? The location of the apartments was brill to all amenities and the reps where fab even when my son had an accident (not caused by anyone but his brother) and they all rallied round to help him. the day trips where amazing including the oasis park long trip but worth it and the sea trip which was excellent value for money (seeing dolphins and sharks), all in all this was an amazing holiday and i thank everyone for all their efforts.

  • Liked — the lay out and the african look of the buildings, did not feel like a hotel
  • Disliked — nothing

Myself and my partner travelled with our five children (aged 8, 12, 12, 13 and 16) at the end of July for two weeks. My partners 8yo has Downs Syndrome. We had two 1bed ground floor apartments

To start on a positive note. The My Travel Escape Club (up to 16 years old) and Childrens Reps were fantastic. This is what raises the rating to Okay!!!

Your first impression of the complex will be 'wow, its beautiful'. The reality is very different.

The apartments are very basic and in poor repair, we made a number of requests for defects to be remedied, some of which were carried out. One of our apartments smelt of damp for the whole two weeks. Ground floor rooms have a rear door, which provides an easy 'escape route' for kids - not good for toddlers and younger children we would suggest and no mention of this in the brochure. This proved a real problem for us.

The maid service is, at best, intermittent. The quality of the cleaning is the poorest we have known, towels provided were damp and not exactly numerous.

We're surprised you don't have to hire bed linen, as you have to pay for everything else. TV is 30 euro's a week (which we did without), fans, etc etc

The pool is a disgrace. A distinct lack of sunbeds, leads to the usual 6am towel sessions, which is very annoying. It was only cleaned once while we were there, rubbish is left floating in the pool, scum lies on the pool surround, broken tiles and gratings are an accident waiting to happen.

The staff on reception were generally rude/surly.
