“Fab location,freezing pools!”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Just come back from a week at the Dunas.First time to the Canaries and wasn't sure what to expect. The Oasis Dunas is in a fab location great for the supermarket, shops, restaurants, bus, waterpark and lots more. We went self-catering as we like to find nice places to eat, so can't comment on the food there. Pools were freezing! even the "heated" one but it wasn't that hot that you needed to cool off in the water Our apartment , upper floor in A block was spacious but basic and a bit tired. Our balcony looked out on the back of the pool pumphouse so not a great view and for the first few days the noise from the pumps or generator? was quite intrusive especially trying to have a nice quiet drink out there on an evening! but they did fix whatever the problem was and then it was ok.Can't fault cleanliness of the pool and public areas but the apartment was not kept to the highest standard. We are used to Greece and have had some very basic accomodation there , but always on the days the maids come the beds are made and the place is swept and mopped through, but here our beds were only made on the last day and if they did give us clean sheets( I couldn't tell) what was the point on the last day? We didn't get clean towels 'til day 4 and then on the next two days and I dont think the floor was swept at all, the deceased cockroach remained on the balcony all week! We aren't fussy and you get what you pay for but it was inconsistent.
The resort is lovely, the Spar supermarket is very cheap and we didn't have a bad meal all week, reasonable prices and good service everywhere.Best were El Toro Bravo steakhouse (beef stroganoff to die for) and El Cantina mexican restaurant where the chilli con carne was fab.
We got the bus to the main beach by the big hotels 1 euro 30 each each way -bargain! beach there is stunning but in Feb a bit chiily when its cloudy and watch out for the nudists! Shared a taxi back one day with another couple 1 euro 50 each.
Would definitely go back, would love to see more of the island and do the quad bike tour.Would stay at the Qasis Dunas again mainly for the location.Might go a few weeks later though as it was quite chilly especially in the evening but was a great week's break for some winter sunshine.

Room Tip: Request an upper floor with pool view, A block is near the pool

We had a week at the Oasis Duna and had a great time. We were self catering, so I can not comment on the food, but the pool area and plaza were fantastic. There were 3 pools and 1 was vaguely heated. The pools were cold but lovely, very clean and big! My children (6 and 3) loved splashing in the toddler pool, and the highlight of my 6 year old's holiday was playing water polo with the Thomas Cook entertainment team. As great as the pools were, the beac was even better - we found a fantastic spot with beautiful sandy beaches (perfect for sandcastles) and clear, shallow water, complete with fishes.

The rooms were pretty basic and could have done with a refurb but were clean and absolutely sufficient for our needs. Reception staff were generally very helpful, although it did depend on who was working - 1 lady was significantly less helpful.

The place was also quiet - it had atmosphere but didn't feel crowded at any point. The location is fine, although it is about a 20 minute walk to the more atmospheric restaurants away from the main strip.

Our first time at the Oasis Duna, but not to corralejo. We asked for a quiet area and high floor, only two stoerys anyway. We got that,I did read quite a few reviews on this site before I went and some of them are correct, but some are un founded. That old saying you only pay for what you get. This is a three star place not four or five.It is dated, our towels were changed frequently and as it says a change of sheets once a week we went half board the food is a bit repetative we didnt mind dont have to walk round every night to find somewhere to eat, which works out more expensive.its a shame they dont do wifi in the room have to sit round the bar area,in the winter realy cold and windy area round the bar, would be good in the warmer months.dont have to go far to get to a supermarket or the high street, so no taxis. The waiting staff can be a bit irratic at times in the restaurant. We enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor on the holiday form before you go.plus a quiet area.

Hi all,

Just back from two weeks at Oasis Dunas - what a fantastic time we had. I am giving 4 stars - because there are some things that are very good but the restaurant lets it down.

Rooms - you want to get into A block if you can - we were in A4 - which was fine. The room was exactly what I've had on almost all visits to the Canaries - basic, functional, but clean and tidy, and with a kind of conservatory feel to it. Had clearly recently had a lick of paint, and the marble type floor looked reasonably new. If there was one room that was maybe not that great it was the bathroom but again I'm used to that. If I've got a fully functioning shower, sink, and toilet I can live with the odd bit of mildew or mould between the cracks in the tiles on the wall. It's no big deal to me. If I had paid 5 grand for this holiday then it might be an issue, but I didn't. A3 block is the best for sunshine. right in front of the pools.

Restaurant is dismal - very little choice, a salad area with just salads but no cold meats/ cheeses, a few curry type slop buckets, some very basic chips, bread rolls, pasta. Very cheap and cheerful. We ate out most nights. Don't go half board, there are loads of cheap places to eat in town - Slow Boat chinese is amazing for 8.95 per head.

Breakfast a little better, but bacon only every other day and poor quality. We managed on toast and coffee but it was not a patch on other places we have been.

The entertainment team are amazing - Thomas Cook are the best in the world! My two boys, Ollie and Jamie had their best holiday ever with them.

Saw one cockroach the entire week. Can't complain.

Lovely people staying in the hotel and friendly staff - other than some of the cleaning ladies who are a bit fierce!

Swimming pools awesome but cold - the one nearest reception is the warmest as it is heated - sometimes!

To sum up - go self catering, A block, let Thomas Cook entertain you and you will be fine.

If you want to know more, I have written at length - 15 full entries on my world famous blog which you can find by typing Bicester Blogger into google. Everything you could possibly want to know is there!

Have fun!

Room Tip: A block all the way!!!

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Oasis Dunas with my mum, dad and brother. I must admit after booking the holiday and reading some of the reviews on here I was a bit nervous to say the least about what we would find.

The Pros: the staff at the hotel were really helpful. The location is really handy for the 'main strip'. The apartments ( we stayed in B407 and B409) were in need of recoderation/upgrading, but seen as all we did was sleep and change/shower there they were perfectly adequate. We stayed half board and there was always a good selection of food for both breakfast and evening meal - was it 5 star? No, but then again we hadn't paid 5 star prices, we ate there 5 nights out of 7. My dad has a number of stomach problems/conditions and he was absolutley fine whilst eating there. The Viking bar is really comfy and good coffee.

The Cons: the apartments are in need of updating and if you are a picky eater you may struggle with the food. Drinks in the hotel are expensive.

The resort itself has something for everyone. Recommend Rock Cafe for live music and Prince of Wales if you are hankering after 'proper bacon'. the Prince of Wales also does a deal of 1.50 euros until the first goal is scored when the football is on. We did a day trip to Oasis Park and Lanzarote, both of which were good.

Would I go back? yes. I would stay again at the hotel, but more likely on a self catering basis due to the hudge choice of restaurants in the resort which were good value for money and because I prefer to have a choice over where to eat each night.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room as sound proofing isn't great.

Can honestly say this is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in, avoid block B at all costs.... Chewed woodwork, rusty bath, disgusting stains on sofa, chair with no legs, thread bare bedding, curtains hanging off and as if that wasn't enough .... Cockroaches!!! Would not use any kitchen appliances and for the first time ever wanted to just get home, in public areas fag ends and litter are everywhere, beds by pool filthy and most broken, management need to sit up and take note.... It's a dump!!!
