“Lovely Hotel, Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

Me and My boyfriend have just returned from a week at Hotel Arena, 30th May-6th June 14.
My Boyfriend booked a last minute holiday to this hotel, with it being on a low cost website I was a bit dubious on where we were going, I checked trip advisor for the reviews and thought it must be too good to be true as we got a very good deal. we were not disappointed in any way.
The hotel was lovely, clean, tidy, staff were exceptionally friendly, especially Abel that mainly worked on the Coco Pool Bar, Nico that was the lifeguard and tidied up the pool area, and Mario that mainly worked on the bar in the entertainment room. The Food in the Hotel was nice, with something different every night, how ever if you wanted something a bit different, town was only around 20min walk/5min taxi ride (3.5 euros) where there is a number of bars and restaurants especially along the beach front.
Overall we had a really relaxing, but fun holiday as we met a lot of people who we instantly became friends with, so we all joined in the sunny entertainment games and had a good time.
I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to let other people going to this hotel know that it is a safe destination for a relaxing holiday, with plenty to do in town.

Room Tip: ask for a ground floor room facing the pool

We returned yesterday from this hotel, we had a lovely relaxing holiday! The hotel is about 20 mins walk from centre which we walked most days along the beach or through the streets, one night we were late coming in so we got a taxi about 3.50 euros so not bad at all.

As for the room we had a pool view, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, cleaned and beds made everyday.

The food was to a good standard we managed to find something to eat every meal time, there was plenty of choice.

The best thing about this hotel was the staff, all very friendly and could do enough for you! Big shout out to the barman Mario he was great!

A good, clean, small and very friendly hotel. Staff here go out of their way to make you welcome. I brought a group of six ladies with disabilities and had requested ground floor rooms overlooking the pool, we had four rooms in a row looking over the pool and they were perfect with level access and a lovely shady terrace with each room.
The restaurant staff especially Alveno has been very helpful and so friendly. The lifeguard always friendly and smiling. Gary and Jessi running the animation full of enthusiasm and great fun with the ladies. Evening entertainment ends at 11pm which has been great for us and meant we had a good quiet nights sleep. Michael with his reggae music night was our favourite.
Maria has allowed us use of one of the rooms after check out on our final day and has been so accommodating and helpful.
Food has been lovely with lots of choice to suit all tastes. Great range of drinks on all inclusive, including water, coffee as well as a huge range of local brand alcohol.
Wifi is free in the lobby. We paid 15euros for 7days so we could use in our rooms and around the pool, it has been worth it and very reliable.
Thank you Hotel Arena for giving the ladies a perfect holiday.....we leave in the morning but everyone wants to stay !! :D

Me (age 22) and my boyfriend (age 27) stayed at the Hotel Arena on 23rd-30th May 2014, all inclusive and had mixed views on the hotel. Prior to booking the hotel, we checked TripAdvisor and reviews tended to be on the better side especially in terms of food, which as we were all inclusive we were interested in knowing. We hired a car so we were planning to explore the island, and only spend time at the hotel to sleep and eat and unfortunately we were really disappointed with the food. The breakfast was as expected, perfectly fine with lots of choice, full heated English breakfast, fruit (which generally was fresh), cereals etc. The lunch and tea were not as good as we had imagined at all, generally the food was greasy and did not look appetising. We are not fussy eaters however one night my boyfriend had to eat just chips because all the other food had not been filled up and what was there, looked like it had been there for days. During the day, when the restaurant is closed, the pool bar is open which is great, they have burgers, hot dogs, toasties etc which can be ready in minutes and also soft drinks, teas/coffees, beer and ice cream are all self service and spirits available from the barman - Abel is a great bartender!

On the upside, the hotel staff are wonderful! They are very friendly, from reception, to around the pool with the lifeguard and bar staff, to the restaurant and to housekeeping, they can't do enough to help you.

With regards to location, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the town, and along a well lit main road. There is a supermarket and a couple of restaurants and shops within a 5-10 minute walk and also a market there on the weekend which sells local handicrafts and is worth a look.

We had a car to explore the island, there is free parking at the hotel and we never had trouble parking outside nor in the town, not once did we have to pay for parking anywhere. We would highly recommend a car, for bad weather days or just generally exploring.

In general, for what we paid, it was absolutely fine, the room was always clean and we made good use of the free drinks and if you aren't too fussed about the standard of the food then it's ok!

Room Tip: We had room 231, which was just over the pool bar and close to the restaurant with a pool view. We...

The Hotel Arena is a small hotel set in a quiet residential area about 20 mins walk from the main strip ,it costs between 3 and 4 euros for a taxi depending on pick up/drop off points,Access to the sand dunes area is about the same walking distance, local bus stop is about 7 mins away and gives access to other areas of island. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, and rooms are cleaned every day, food is ok for a small hotel and caters for most tastes,All the staff were very happy and pleasant and would go out of there way to help you,Except for one at reception who was a jobsworth when it came to printing our boarding passes for Ryan air, we had to wait for Her (blonde) to go before another member of reception staff could help us,other passengers with Ryan Air also had problems getting their boarding passes printed by Her and had to ring their tour operators to e-mail the hotel their boarding passes and request they printed them (£20 phone call), but if you are in this situation i would suggest waiting for Her to leave and ask another member of the management team ,better still fly with Monarch and pay £20 extra for the flight but get an extra 5kg luggage allowance, as Ryan Air charge 10 Euro per kilo excess baggage you could save yourself a lot of worry about taking a few gifts home and printing your boarding pass in another country :)

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms 101 to 111 these are ground floor behind/below poolside rooms and down a steep ra...

We were unfortunate to be delayed by the French strike so missed our evening meal. How nice to have salad, fruit, rolls and water delivered to the bedroom. Another pleasant surprise was free Wi-Fi in reception or 15 euros a week if you also wanted to use it in your bedroom. It was a way of chatting though in reception because a few guests were always there checking their phones.
Next morning, was disappointed to see the hotel was in a residential area and the town mainly consisted of one very long road leading to the port. This walk was OK on the first day but became a very boring 30 mins walk past houses and high walls. Yes, you could find a way along the beach but didn't always feel like that. I admit I do like to see a bit of life outside the hotel and it got very chilly at night to find a bit of life somewhere. A free shuttle a couple of times a day would have been nice.
You definitely could not fault the staff, they were all lovely
We had a room overlooking the pool which was very nice and a very good size balcony and patio doors that opened right up. The mattress was very hard and had no covers on them and no mattress toppers were available. Ended up having to sleep on the foam that was with the pull down sofa.....considering we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary this was not very romantic as I was about a foot higher than my husband on his side of the bed ha!
Everything was very clean and towels changed daily if you left them on the floor. Shower was a bit strange and came out a large hole in the centre of the shower head, it was not on a sliding rail but you could lift it off. Some toiletries were provided but no shower cap. A hair dryer is also provided
I don't know why hotels need to charge 2 euro a day for the safe. Free use of one would be much better for everyone.
The TV channels can be changed manually so no need for a remote but only BBC news and CNN in English anyway. The air con can be switched on and off just by reaching up and pushing a button so no remote needed there either.
To have a look round the island means the boring walk to town for the bus stop which had an hourly service. The fare's not particularly cheap so I would definitely recommend a car hire for a few days, booked in the UK as this again was expensive at the resort. Parking is really easy and the best beach (trying to avoid naked people) is quite a walk but very easy to get to by car and once again easy parking. Some people said to go to Lajares....I am going to give this place the benefit of the doubt by saying it must have been out of season because it was like a ghost town when we went.
Hotel food was OK, I don't think you could ever go hungry although one night a family walked out of the restaurant complaining and was seen taking a delivery of pizza.....I think this was a bit extreme. My only complaint was the desserts. Same every night, not a lot of imagination. The red wine was terrible and some spirits tasted odd but quickly found some to suit. You do have to walk outside to get to the restaurant, not sure how you get on when its raining.
Pool area was very nice and clean....lots of sun beds available and the pool bar very handy. I had been told it could get windy and one day it was freezing, everyone sitting around with towels round them but it got better. Ramona tried her hardest to include guests in the poolside events but was very good if you didn't want to move.
Unlike other all inclusive hotels there were no late night snacks as the bar closed far too early at 11pm. The evening entertainment was terrible but when that was over and you were just enjoying a drink and a chat with other guests you were asked to leave and the bar closed.
We got the ferry one day at 10am over to Lanzarote. One of the desks wanted 88 euros for two but another desk charged us 42 euros. It only takes 30 mins and you have a choice of times to come back.
There is a small free gym but the sauna is 6 euros an hour. You can book a free time slot for a shower on the day you leave if this is later in the day as you have to check out of your room by mid-day unless you pay 30 euros. Also a left luggage room
There is a very handy washing line on the balcony for towels and swimsuits. We took our own towels for the pool. you can hire them but there is a 2 euro charge each time you want to change them for clean ones and 10 euros refundable deposit.
On Sunday there was a nice little market 10 mins walk by the hiper dino supermarket. At last some local life with a live band. Another market on Tuesday next to the water park where the town is.
All in all a nice smaller hotel but a bit too quiet for us.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool

Location. The hotel is set in what appears to be a very quiet residential area and is a 35 minute walk into the main tourist area or about £3.50 in a taxi.

Hotel is quiet small and for the most of the week we were there under occupied. It appeared to be shared with Brits, French and the odd Pole. The atmosphere was cosy and friendly. Lots of sun beds so could enjoy a lie in, relax at breakfast and still easily find a bed around the pool.

Food and drink. This is why I only give it three stars. The quality on the whole is quiet good but the choice is limited and repetitive. Same deserts in different combinations. The drinks are possibly the worst I have had on all inclusive except the lager which was drinkable. The spirits were weak. The pool bar shuts down at lunch time as the staff go to work in the restaurant. The restaurant is really tiny and you have to set your own table.

The staff are a real jewel in the crown and very polite, helpful and much fun and a credit to the hotel.

The resort has a very varied and lively night life especially if you like live bands but, and this isn't the hotels fault, its just too windy and cold at night for us but we are assured its better from July to October.
