“Fantastic Location on a superb beach”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Travelled to Oliva Beach Resort at end of August with the family and had a great time. Have travelled extensively throughout the world and would recommend this hotel for a family holiday. Admittedly the Hotel is very large and may be too large for the discerning traveller but for us it suited us well. Situated on a fantastic beach with clear blue sea and some fantastic breakers if the weather is favourable. Kids loved the opportunity to body board on the big breakers. Sea is shallow and quite safe for children to play in if the waves are not too big. Plenty of loungers and umbrellas BUT have to be paid for. Take a beach towel and use the sand if you do not want to pay. Transfer from Airport approx 30 mins, check in friendly and efficient. We had three rooms in the annexe block which was 5 mins away from the main complex through well manicured gardens. One of the rooms was not suitable for young children as it had a balcony wall overlooking the living area. Went to reception and they gave us a ground floor suite which was much more suited. Staff cam and moved the family and gave them a bottle of bubbly for any inconvenience caused. As a family we preferred the annexe block as it suited the family. In our opinion pool was much more attractive than the main hotel pool and there were always plenty of loungers despite the continental habit of reserving them at dawn! The annexe restaurant was excellent. Food was well prepared and plenty of it.Beer, wine and soft drinks on tap. Staff friendly and very efficient. Entertainment was not particularly to our liking especially in the evening. Started at 9:30 so not really aimed at young children. Day time activities were ok, but nothing special.
All in all we had a great holiday. Every one is entitled to their own opinion and from some of the previous negative comments we were a bit sceptical, But I can assure you from what we experienced we would willingly return.

Room Tip: If you have young children ask for a ground floor apartment. Also we preferred Annexe block

During the early part of august , my wife and myself spent 10 days at the Olivia beach hotel . All we can say is what a wonderful time we had. Our room on the forth floor in the main hotel overlooking the beach was nice and tidy , the food and drink in the hotel was good with plenty of choice , the staff were always very helpful as were the Thomson reps. The location of the hotel is the real jewel in the crown , sat next to a beach as good as any in the world . If you failed to enjoy yourself at this location my advice would be save your money and sit being miserable in your own back yard..

Room Tip: Get a room in the main hotel overlooking the national park

We had two weeks in this hotel, on the whole good, we had a garden apartment, although we had asked to be in the main part of the hotel, in looking back we probably got the better option, the food was good, we couldn't complain about that, we did think it could do with a bit of updating but all in all we had a really good holiday, the beach is to die for you would think you were in the Carribean, although as one reviewer did say there were a lot of nudists, which really didn't both us, if you want to get all pickled like a prune go ahead. It was close enough to jump on the local bus into town and we took the local bus from there to the other side of the island which was also stunning, the staff were really helpful and pleasant, we were disappointed with the themed restaurants as the food was no different to what you could get in the main ones, we would certainly visit the island again, but to a different location to see other parts of the island.

I traveled as a group of 4 on this holiday. The beaches are gorgeous!! The sea is lovely and so clear and the life guards are constantly patrolling which is very good! This hotel is not very english and I am not a racist but don't be expecting to be making friends with many people. The entertainment was very average and was good that they catered for every language and there was a disco that was on until 2am. This holiday is for couples and is a very relaxing holiday... Not for teenagers at all!

My wife and i have stayed at various riu hotels before but this one must be the worst we have been in, very out dated poor decoration, cracked mirrors in lift and hallways, electrical outlets burnt, the food was ok but nothing special, entertainment was very poor, the best thing was the beach although you had to pay for the sunbeds and shades, even though its all inclusive, the staff where helpfull, we will not be returning.

Just spent a week at the Rui Oliva Beach during one of the busiest times of the year and i have to say we had a really enjoyable stay. Yes the hotel resembles a 1970's throw back but its extremely clean and tidy and on a beach that would rival many in the caribbean. The food was plentiful and the selection was great. The fresh fruit and salads were the same everyday with 3 or 4 hot choices which changed daily. I only wish the speciality restaurants were waiter service and not buffet style as they didn't feel very special. The entertainment was dire, lots of miming and over acting, Butlins holiday camp style and thats being polite. cocktails were great, if a little weak so we would ask for "Special" ones and smile nicely and they would pour a little extra in for us. getting a taxi into town is cheap and easy. We visited the African market but haggle hard with the stall holders as they seem to like it. All in all, great holiday, lovely clean hotel in a fab location. Bar staff could do with being a bit happier. The friendliest people were the hard working cleaners who alway said morning with a smile.
