If you consider learning to surf, go to Fuerteventura and take some lessons at The Aloha Surf Academy. Alex, the instructor, is a certified surf instructor and a professional beach life guard. But above all, he is a passionate waterman and a brilliant surfer. He speaks and teaches effortlessly in five or six languages. If you are taking lessons, you want the right advice, but as a beginner or intermediate wave hog, most probably you’ll be more at ease - which is pretty important as a learner - knowing that someone competent stands ready to pull you out of the water if you get in trouble. Alex knows the ocean and he knows what he is doing. He is very easy going, extremely patient and somewhat amazingly notices all the goods and bads of your performance in the water. From what I saw in Fuerta, most surf schools have an industrial approach to surf teaching. They take out 12+ persons. Not so with with Aloha Surf Academy. They only take smaller groups (apart from offering individual lessons etc). If you get the chance to see how it works with 12+ people trying to handle their boards in the white water, you realize that being a small group not only optimizes your progress, it is also much safer. Sophie, who takes care of the administrative side of things, showed great friendliness, professionalism and allowed all the flexibility I needed in booking lessons from day to day. The Aloha Surf Academy should be your preferred choice of surf school in the Canaries.
