Stayed here between 16th & 23rd December 2012. I would say that this would be best suited for couples aged 30 upwards. I stayed in one of the one bedroom bungalows adjacent to the pool area and I could not fault them. It was very quite, there were probably only a dozen other couple's at most staying there. During the evening's the 'disco' bar was occupied by maybe only 6 people. The pool bar ( daytime only ) was very good, It was mainly run by a dutch guy called Mark who was very friendly and helpful.
The food in the restaurant was okay, nothing fancy but I didn't go hungry. The drinks at both bars were generally self service. This hotel is certainly not suitable for couple's with young children, there is no entertainment what so ever. The marina is about a half hour walk and there are some good shops and a market if you wish. Papagayo beach is one of the best beaches I have been on out of all the canary islands, proper golden sand, about 500 meters long and very quite. The weather I had in December was fab, no clouds with temperatures between 24 & 27C.
In summary, I had a very relaxing break in a quite, average hotel with good accomodation and great weather. I would recommend this to others.

Just returned from cay beach, had an amazing time, very quiet & relaxing! Not suitable for children as there is no entertainment for them! Went up to cay beach sun (sister hotel) for new years eve where they had childrens entertainer, bingo & quiz which we all enjoyed! There was also a games room for the older kids! Would certainly go bk to cay beach papagayo as it was very peaceful & no clambering for sunbeds! If you want you can use your band @ other hotel whenever you want some entertainment but for relaxing it was excellent!

Room Tip: Think I must have had best apartment as we overlooked pool & had most amazing view!

Just returned from a week here over christmas. didn't choose this hotel "got moved to our sister hotel" by our chosen hotel.
Thought we would give it a go. Problem is it's an all inclusive hotel and we were not all inc. So straight away we were fish out of water. We looked at the food and it looked pretty poor. We were glad we hadn't paid for it. Couldn't find the bar and the supermarket was never open.
The pool is open to the "sea breeze" and felt cold and uninviting.
Rooms were ok but the bathrooms were lacking in a major element. Hot running water in the sinks on most occasions. If you want a break away from Playa Blanca by all means stay here. It's a 25 min walk to the centre. We won't be booking this place again.

Room Tip: Face the sea and it's burning hot on the balconies.

As other reviews we were dropped off at the hotel next door. We didn't find the rooms too difficult to find and there are ramps to use rather than steps if you want. Rooms are big and clean, we were very impressed by them, especially for the price you pay. Food was ok, if your a bi picky with food you may not like it as peopl have said before it's no labelled. But everything we ate was cooked well. Pool area is lovely an if you want a snack let the pool guy know and he'll arrange something with the chef. The hotel is quiet and I would say if your not all inclusive you may struggle for places close by to eat but the Marina is only 15 - 20 mins walk and lots of restaurants there. Even though we went all inclusive the nights are quiet so we would walk to the Marina and even ate out a couple of evenings. The shopping centre close by only had a supermarket, bike hire a bar and a couple of shops, so if you want everything on your doorstep, this is not for you. If you want to relax and a bit of peace, with the option to find something more lively 20 mins away this is perfect. Buses stop right outside to get to plays blanca which is lovely. Overall we all had a great time, we had read the reviews and knew what to expect, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an easy relaxing holiday.

The day we arrived we were told by the coach driver that we would have to be dropped off at the IBEROSTAR Bocayna as our hotel reception was under refurbishment, however on arriving it was clear that it wasn't. When we were at the hotel we were given our keys & all that we were told is that our room was down that way & to follow the white wall. It was dark, we had my disabled father in a wheelchair & no help was was offered to assist with our luggage. They advertise the pool & jacuzzi as being heated from Oct-Apr but these were both very cold so it was clear that this was not the case at all. The reception was supposed to be open from 8am-2pm & 5pm-7pm but it wasn't open from 8am-2pm for at least 3 days. We even had a guest that arrived at the hotel who asked us where to get their room keys from as reception was closed. I complained for 3 days & on the 3rd day I saw the maintenance man & he said that he had turned on the heat in the pools & that they should be warm in the morning. Pool & jacuzzi were still cold & heating was never turned on. Pool side snacks did not seem to exist. My mum asked the lifeguard & he said 'I don't know what you mean, I'm only a lifeguard'. As for the food, it was not high quality eating, far from it to be exact. The bread rolls were hard, the fruit salad appeared to have gone off of which after eating I had a bad stomach for a couple of days. Cornflakes seemed to be stale & not at there freshest. Around the pool area were always flies which were quite annoying. The seagulls seemed to enjoy the pool more than the guests. The hotel complex on the whole was really nice but it is a shame that it was so poorly run. Things started to change slightly on our last couple of days of our holiday but by then it was too late as it did not benefit us. I very much doubt that we will return here again. 4 lost customers.

We’ve just returned from a short break at the Cay Beach Papagayo (sometimes referred to as Hotel Papagayo Romantica) and can only say we had a brilliant time. The hotel was extremely quiet and when I say quiet I mean we had the pool area, restaurant and bar virtually to ourselves. I blame this on the negative reviews here on trip Advisor as we spoke to several people who had looked up the reviews and had been made aware that this property is NOT suitable for anyone wanting a lively holiday or for kids but is admirably perfect for someone who wants a clean, well run, perfectly laid out, with staff eager to please property, in walking distance from the main resort. The bus stops directly outside the property for those who choose the easier route but the well paved promenade walk takes about 20 minutes to the Marina and about 45 minutes to the main resort of Playa Blanca.
We were in a one bedroom apartment and were knocked out by the space afforded to the pair of us and the balcony ran past the bedroom and the lounge so was enormous and we were fortunate enough to have a limited sea view as well (although the complex is about 300meters from a rocky beach).
As reported in other reviews we were dropped off and picked up from the reception of the Iberostar Bocayna, which is no problem because it is actually linked to the Cay Beach Papagayo and you just walk from one to the other in the grounds. The reception in the Cay Beach was rarely open but the Bocayna was open 24 hrs.
One point is the location reported on the LowCostHolidays map is wrong, the location shown is for the Cay Beach Apartmentol which is nearer to the main town but further inland. This is owned by the same company and with the wrist band you can use their facilities, which some people in the Hotel were doing because there is entertainment there and they cater more for families. We were told that the food here was more varied but we were adequately happy with what was on offer in the Papagayo because as I reported earlier we had the place to ourselves and no rushing around in the restaurant.
I can heartily recommend this property for couples (old and young - as although there were steps, there were also slopes around the complex) but if you want a lively place, go elsewhere. I can only hope that the negative reviews do not turn people off as I would like to return in the future. The reception reported that they are getting busier towards Christmas.

Literally got back from this hotel last night - stayed 17-24th. Got dropped off @ sister hotel, fine but due to latest of time wasn't easy to find apartment due to numbering, plenty of steps although some ramps. Very quiet @ far end of Playa Blanca, good 20 minute walk to a lovely marina which had a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, market days on wed & sat selling a good selection of gifts. Now the hotel was very clean, saw 2 cleaners in whole complex, 1 lifeguard who maintained the pool n scared the seagulls away. Self service bar, but good selection of local spirits, lager, tea & coffee, both in pool bar & restaurant. Bar staff consisted of one, same bar man only in the evening was waiter cleaning used crockery away, then served you in bar until 11pm every night. Food was a bit hit n miss, no labels n had to guess type of soup & most sauces, chips, pasta, rice n salad served lunch/evening, although not a very good selection. You are allowed to use the services of the sister hotel called Cay Beach Sun which actually thought was the hotel I'd booked, the facilities here were definitely 4*, food exceptional n drinks served in glasses instead of plastic, this is a far better complex n prob book this hotel if stay in same area, not the original one I booked. It was easy to get there, no 30 bus stops outside hotel every half hr, was 4 stops to other hotel @ a cost of 2.60 euros 4 two people, taxi back ordered by reception @ cost of 5 euros. On a good side, very quiet hotel, no kids, nothing for them to do here, was good being able to stroll down to pool @ 9.30 with a good selection of sun beds spaced out well. On site supermarket opened once whilst we were there, but there is another across road in a small complex about 5/10 min walk from hotel. Reception - 1st couple of days saw no one, but on good side we weren't charged for keeping room on for a couple of more hours due to late flight, this was probably because @ most 10/12 couples were occupying the hotel. Water pressure very hit n miss, 1st 2 days had wait over half hr to fill enough water into bath, luckily took a kettle so was able to supplement the tepid water with some boiled, we complained n was told there was a problem with the pump, but still didn't improve by end of week .
