Like other reviewers, this is not the holiday inn you are used too. The interior is run down, elevator buttons broken and hanging out of panel. Room was adequate. I stayed for 5 nights due to business and my room was cleaned 2 out of those 5 days, no coffee replaced, no trash removed. There is a very nice restaurant/lounge on the 5th floor.Food was excellent. But they have karoke on Thursday nights, be prepared for no sleep. Also, request a room on the parking lot side or you will be awakened very early every morning by the coal trucks. This is really the only place to stay in the area.

We chose this hotel because it looked like the best quality one in the area. The room was what we expected but the location was terrible. If you stay in an even numbered room, your window is right next to a busy road on a hill. All night we kept hearing semi-trucks Jake Braking which kept us up, especially the kids. The odd numbered rooms face the parking lot so they might not have been that bad. Sunday is supposed to have a brunch buffet in the restaurant. This was advertised in the room literature as well as the front desk. When we showed up for the buffet, we were told that the cooks decided that they didn't want to do one that day. The pool was also closed on a Saturday for some reason we were not told about as well. In all, it was not what I expected from a Holiday Inn.

My husband, myself and our two young adult children visited the area to attend our oldest son's wedding. Of all the hotels in the area, only the Holiday Inn is one I would consider visiting. It is a fairly new property, and by Norton's standards it is nice. However, if you have stayed at a Holiday Inn in a larger demographic area, it does not meet those standards. The lobby is decorated in a mismatch of styles with washed out colors. There is a computer in the middle of the room "the business center", with a coffee maker and newspapers on a table nearby. The staff who are kind and polite, don't show the same urgency to good customer service. They are too polite to put the caller on hold, to take care of the customer standing in front of them. The entrance to the hotel usually has a crowd of smokers as everyone in the town likes to smoke or chew. Prepare yourself for that , I wasn't...

The rooms are adequate, ours had two double beds, not queen, but double. They are decorated brightly with comtemporary colors. Plenty of hot water, and AC, a bit skimpy on the towels. A flat screen TV and free internet kept my husband happy.

THere is a restaurant on the 5th floor, pricey especially for Norton. There is a Sunday brunch but it starts at 11 AM, which is a problem if you are looking for a place for breakfast. Plan on visiting Mc Donalds, Hardee's or the Huddle House if you are hungry.

The town of Norton is limited in it's resources. All the restaurants, shops and activities are closed by 9 PM. So, plan accordingly to accommodate the life style of Norton, as they will not accommodate you.....

If there were more options around I wouldn't suggest not staying here, however due to the surrounding hotels, it may still be one of the better options. The hotel lacks sound proofing, and that is an understatement. You can hear other TVs going etc. I was put up in a room facing the parking lot and was having a good time accessing the internet and enjoying the room. The stay took a bad turn when the toilet became clogged, I called in to front desk to see if I could get a plunger. But, they didn't have a plunger... so they offered to move me toa another room. Then the problems just started piling up. The wireless internet that was strong in the previous room was completely gone! The only way I could pick up a signal was by walking into the hall. The room faced the road, road noise was annoying. Then I noticed this room's toilet seemed to suffer the same water pressure problems, as the other. Second downfall in the bathroom the shower curtain smelled of mildew. This hotel doesn't hold up to Holiday Inn standard.

My family and I occasionally splurge a bit in the winter and visit a local hotel just to swim. This hotel is very local, but not worth the money! The pool is too small to barely move around, the hotel employees were extremely rude, and the location of the hotel is extremely loud (considering the other hotel options in this area.) Even though this hotel is only about a seven minute drive, from now on when we want the luxury usually associated with Holiday Inn I think we will travel the extra 50 or so miles.

We recently spent one night at the Norton Holiday Inn and it was very nice. The smoke in the hallways is from smoking rooms, not a fire. VA will implement a NO Smoking in any Hotels rule in a couple months and that should no longer be a problem. Room was clean and inviting and bathroom was nice. Interestingly enough we stopped early in the day and were told they had one room left and the AARP rate was $95. We left to investigate another property which turned out to be awful (Mountain High Lodge) and returned later. The rate was $75-maybe because it was later in the day?

This hotel is brand new and is extremely clean. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. The problem however is that there is a Restaurant/Lounge on the 5th floor. On Friday night they had a band playing until 2 a.m. in the morning. If you were on the wrong side of the hotel, then you had this music blasting in your room all night. To put it in perspective we were on the 2nd floor.

The next night was a DJ that went until 1 a.m. It seems like the popular thing to do is to go up to the restaurant, party, and then get a room. a room two down from us had 20 people in it and were loud until 3 a.m. The front desk to their credit went up 3 different times to ask them to quite down, but never to any action (apparently the mgr., agreed to provide them with a party room)

If partying is what you want to do, this is a good venue. if sleep is something you crave at traveling or coming back from your night out - find a different place.

date of stay was the weekend of August 8th and 9th 2009
