As a travelling salesman, I'm used to staying in hotels around the UK on a weekly basis. This would beat most of them in terms of cleanliness. Rooms are cleaned daily except for Tuesdays and Thursdays, and someone cleans around the pool area each evening whilst realigning the sun beds for the following day.

As a family in a 1 bed apartment, we were using the sofa bed in the lounge area, which meant that on occasions we were lacking comfortable seating. However, there is a dining table with 4 chairs around it, and we had 3 chairs and a table on our very large balcony. That said, we preferred to make use of the sofas and armchairs in the lobby/bar area, which is a large modern space, very comfortable, with access to plentiful drinks from 10am until midnight, and free wifi in this area.

Food was of a good quality, and very varied, but you will never please everyone! Always fries, a rice dish and a potatoe to choose from, with various meat dishes, pasta and sauces, and a good array of salads. Deserts were usually the same each day, but with a good variety, but most of a blamange style, with 4 varieties of ice cream and fresh fruit also.

The pool was very cold, but the kids didn't seem to mind too much! Once you are in you soon get used to it, although personally I only ventured in twice during our weeks stay! Beaches to the left and right looked great where you can hire beds and parasol for the day, although we preferred to stay poolside. An earlier review mentioned the shading of one half of the pool area, this is true, but only from about 3:30, so it would depend if you wanted to be out there until sunset (which a couple of Germans did!). He best spot for all day sunshine by the pool is in the far left corner as you look out from the double doors from the lobby.

Kids entertainment was good, with something for them at 10:30, 3:30 and 8:30 each day. Nathalie is great with the kids, very loving and caring. A nice touch is that the kids get a certificate each day to recognise their efforts during the days activities, which included darts, a ball throwing game, football, table tennis, modelling clay, painting etc.

The only downside for me, was the fact that in the UK we are so accustomed now to the smoking ban. Smoking isn't allowed in the lobby area, bar area or restaurant, but is allowed poolside. Smoking is also allowed in the rooms. I did complain about this on arrival, as the previous occupants of our room were obviously smokers, but I was told to open the balcony doors for "7 minutes"! (the receptionists English wasn't great, and I think 7 was the only number she knew!). We did so and it was ok, but then we had a chain smoking family move in next door, and the smoke from their room filtered its way through the air con system into our room.

English/German split was about 50/50 during our stay, but this was of no real interest or bother to me anyway. All in all we had a great holiday and would highly recommend the Playa Dorada, and would certainly return again in the future.

Stayed in this hotel twice over the last 3 years. Rooms were very clean, loved the view from the balcony, the staff were very friendly. The food was also delicious and there was lots of variety. The entertainment was pretty good and my cousin who was 2 at the time really enjoyed the mini disco. I would not hesitate to stay there again!

I and a friend stayed here recently in a twin bedded room. The room was plenty big enough with the twin beds, a large sofa, table kitchenette area and a nice tiled bathroom. All the rooms have fabulous views over the pool and the sea. Large balconys with usual table and chairs. The rooms were cleaned on every day apart from Tuesdays and Thursdays with clean towels on the cleaning days. We arrived at around 2330hrs but they had put a ploughmans type salad and bottles of water in the fridge which was a nice touch. The staff were all really friendly and wear name badges. The food is varied and plentiful. There are some interesting mixtures but if you don't like something there are plenty of other things to eat. One or two meats and fish, pasta, sauces, Potatoes, fries, rice vegetables, and different salads at lunch and dinner, with blancmange type puddings but again also fruit and 3 or 4 very nice icecreams as pudding. Breakfast is plentiful with cereals, youghurts, rolls, croissants, sweet rolls, cold meat and cheeses, boiled, fried and scrambled eggs, bacon (quite fatty) sausages ( mostly hot dog type) mushrooms, beans and toast. There is juice but it is a little wattery. Coffee from the machine is ok. Drinks such as Cocoa-cola, sprite tango etc is on pumps to help yourself whenever you like as is lager red, white, rose wine and sangria. I quite liked the sangria up to halfway then topped up with sprite. For other drinks, spirits and cocktails, it is bar service. Never much of a wait. I had a couple of brandy's each night with a coffee after dinner and it was realy quite nice brandy. There are a lot of Germans staying at the hotel. I would imagine it was a 60/40 split but we met some lovely people from Germany and enjoyed mixing and trying to understand each other. The pool was cold but I swam a couple of times and it was mid May! I'm a 50 something year old female and not at all hardy so it can't be that bad! The entertainment was a bit lack lustre. We were lucky that on of the other guests had a great voice and did a couple of songs in the evening - Thank you Andy - which we really enjoyed. Nothing much went onat the hotel after midnight which suited us. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby/bar area and a few euros for your room - although the room wifi will only allow one wifi connection but you can buy more codes for 2 euros. Sa Coma is a quiet area with only a few bars and those 'samey samey' tourist shops it is easy to jump on a bus and visit other places for a couple of euros. E.g 3.50 euro return to go to Porto Cristo/caves of Drach.

i am thinking of staying here in july, but the room difference is not very clear - can anyone explain the difference between a twin bedded room, studio or apartment?? Also, is the pool really really cold - too cold to swim in?
