“Value for Money”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

This was a spur of the moment break and we had a nice week and met some great people. The area leading up to the hotel looked a bit disappointing when we first arrived and we wondered what we would find - but our room was serviced most days and everything was spotlessly clean. I couldn't find an English speaking channel on the TV but we weren't there to watch television! There wasn't a great deal of choice in the dining room but we never went hungry as we always found something nice to eat.The majority of the staff, especially in the dining room were very helpful and friendly. The pools were well maintained with a lifeguard in attendance every day.The entertainment guys worked had during the day organising activities but the evening entertainment was disappointing - kids disco, quiz or bingo - we only had a live act on one of our nights and the All Inclusive bar finished at 11:00pm. Sa Coma is a great resort with the beach being just a short stroll away from the hotel and it's central for loads of lovely places on the coast. On the downside, it took quite a while to get to the resort from Palma airport but on the whole, it was good value for money as we had a very enjoyable holiday and didn't pay a fortune for 8 nights AI accommodation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are on the same side and the hotel is a little way back from the sea, so as far as I k...

My partner and I booked this hotel as a last minute holiday. We were a bit skeptical about how it was going to be from the reviews we read but we needn't had worried. Our room was clean, we got fresh towels daily and most of the staff were very polite and helpful. The all inclusive food was okay. Nothing spectacular and there wasn't a great variety but we didn't expect there to be with the amount we paid. It is only a short walk away from Sa Coma beach which did get quite busy but there was always space to sit or a sun lounger to hire. The area that the hotel is situated is fantastic. There is so much to do! You can hire so many types of vehicles, from childrens electric cars, push bikes, quad bikes and electric scooters, all at a very reasonable price. There are lots of different styles of restaurants to chose from and loads of little shops to buy any gifts or souvenirs. Overall for a cheap, last minute holiday I think it was brilliant and would certainly return.

Good point the hotel was clean. It was cheap so you get exactly that. It's not one of those magic deals where pay less get more:)
The rooms were cleaned well but didn't get any shampoo or shower gel top up for whole week. Dangerous electric fittings in the rooms, no remote control for tv, warm fridge and bed head side shelf will make you swear every day as you are guaranteed to hit your head even when you sober.
Entertainment was not entertaining at all.How much one guy can possibly do running round? Food very boring. Dessert..well never tasted anything quiet like it and it's not good meaning.
Some of the receptionists not very good at understanding English, other staff acting like they and guests are invisible, no good morning not much eye contact, weird.
Location quiet good, close to sea and in the middle of the town.If to ignore 10 homeless cats right by entrance than can say the area is quiet well looked after.
If you want it cheap all food and drinks inclusive place to sleep than that's the one.

We arrived on Sun the 22/06/14 . 4 adults for 12 days, didn't get allocated a room until 3 pm. Realised that night that only one ring of the two hob cooker was working. Only had 3 cups, 2 glasses 1 teaspoon, no bowls , toaster, tin opener , pans. Went to reception on the Monday reported to reception re broken hob and no items for self catering. Went everyday until the Friday. They offered to change us rooms the next day but did not want to have to repack and wait for another room to become available. Declined and rang our tour operator. They rang the hotel and insisted we at least get the basic items . This didn't happen, although we had been given a frying pan midweek, yippee. Waited until our tour operator could speak with the manager but by the Monday even they had given up hope of any success, they passed us onto the Spanish side of the tour company , who spoke to us 2 days before we were due to return home. He also struggled to get the hotel to accept that they had failed us and decided that it was too late for the hotel to be able to do anything to improve our stay. It cost us to eat out every meal time. The only think we were able to do in the room was make hot drinks. Towels were changed regularly, but the cleaners never took the dirty ones away after 12 days we had a pile of dirty towels. Bedding was never changed, I had been sick on mine and even though the cleaners changed my pillow sleep, they just put the soiled sheet back on the bed, so I had to cover it with a towel. The last night was the final straw, after getting back to our room early due to our transfer picking us up at 6 .15 am, my son in law returned the safety deposit key and the spare room key, explaining we did not require them any further , we were in the room, still had one key between us and were leaving early in the morning. We finished our packing and all went to sleep. My self and hubby on the sofas in the living area. At approx 12.30 I was woken by someone leaving the room via the door, I saw the back of them leaving and assumed it was my son in law unable to sleep, seconds later he came out of the bedroom asking who had gone out of the door, this scared me because I had clearly seen the back of someone leaving, so had my husband. After searching the corridors my son in law went to reception to report the incident. We were shocked when he said the receptionist had admitted it was himself, but claimed he had only opened the door to check if we had departed. It is not usual procedure for the receptionist to enter rooms at night if you have departed or not, this would normally be done by the cleaners the next day. I'm still upset about this intrusion and found it very uncomfortable to be able to sleep after this. The receptionists smile and greet but have no idea of how to resolve issues . It would appear that the hotel is more interested in pushing people to upgrade to half board or all inclusive. Who would want all inclusive all drinks either alcohol or coffee are served in plastic beakers. We had one coffee and the first day and never purchased again the coffee was disgusting and made with powdered milk. I'm afraid the pictures portrayed on the hotels page do not portray the real deal. No way does this hotel rank 3 star, even the sun loungers are all grubby and have seen better days, or in need of a good clean. This was a very disappointing holiday and would not consider going back again. Also not suitable really for sleeping 4 adults the mattresses on the sofas are far too thin and you can feel all the slats on the frame beneath.

This is the 3rd time at the Gran Playa and each time we visit it gets better!.

The outside building has all been repainted and so has the inside of the room, which are basic but very clean. We had a leaking tap, once reported it was fixed later that day.

All inclusive is extremely good value, the food is a lot better than last year, well done!.

Staff service in previous years was really poor, but it has vastly improved this year. The cleaning in the resturant from staff was much better than previous years and they were very polite and the bar staff now offer good speedy service (not the case previously!).

It is obvious that someone is now working very hard to improve the standard of this Hotel which is in a great location.

You might want to re-consider the music at the outside bar, a lot of "over fifties" do not like the thudding music that was being always played!.. Me included!..

The entertainment was really poor (not that I wanted it!), but with a bit more enthusiasm you could have your entertainment room full and would improve the overall holiday experiance... Nothing for kids to do once the pool time was over!.

Hopefully back in September...!.

Room Tip: Top floor (7) great views.
