A lovely hotel with very good facilities and great rooms, we stayed in a Dlx pool room, which was very roomy and had its own outdoor jacuzzi and a large semi private pool (shared with 3 other rooms). The grounds and views are really amazing. Nice pool area as well. Design of the hotel is chiq and the staff are very helpful and nice. Only downside are the Restaurants which are ok, but a bit pretentious and pricy compared to what they deliver.
Not much to do in the absolute vicinity, but its fairly close (20min drive) to Palma, beaches and golf, etc. Go there for a relaxing couple getaway or as a group.

We visited Gran Hotel Son Net in July 2009. The hotel is indeed in a beautiful setting with fantastic scenery. Service is good but nothing exemplary. I stayed with my partner and his elderly father, we had rooms in the main building which had lovely views towards the pool and mountains. The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment, on close inspection the walls are marked and dirty and soft furnishings stained. On arrival we complained that our room was dark and oppressive and asked if we could have the room next door. This was agreed, only to be told hours before moving that an error had been made and the room was already booked. Having told us the hotel was fully booked they then offered us two other rooms in the new builds! they were nice albeit very small but a longer walk away from the restaurant and pool. We chose to stay put in order not to be moved further away from my partners elderly father. A member of staff revealed to me that this room was often complained about because it was dark (the blue room on the website) and that they would now tell head office that they need to do something about it. That said we were offered no discount or any compensation for putting up with it!
The food in the restaurant is extortionate - £250 for 3 people. After such an expensive and mediocre meal we opted for the few restaurants left in the town, the best being the pizza place which was relaxed and cheap. There is not much to do in the town but it was a light relief from the expense of the hotel and reception kindly drove us there and back each night because my partners father was elderly – its within walking distance but hilly and therefore exclusively for the able bodied.
Overall we found the hotel expensive, drinks averaging £10 a piece. The Pool Bar manager was very funny and very accommodating, however on one occasion he served food to a young lady by the pool which he declined us the day before saying it was against Spanish Law to serve food by the pool. On another occasion he ran round the pool with free drinks (in a state of shock that something was complimentary I watched him) and when he could see he was running out he simply selected people to give the drink to, mainly the people (or mad fools) that rented the gazebos by the pool each day. I was unimpressed by this discriminatory behaviour. Dignity prevented us from complaining.
Overall expensive but very pretty. The pool was this hotels best feature. Would we go again? Probably not but I wouldn't necessarily discourage others just heed the above! La Residencia is my preferred choice in Majorca.

We had stayed at son net 4 years ago and having had such a fantastic time so we were looking forward to it .Unfortunately the hotel has changed ownership/hotel group since and it certainly shows. The location and history of the building is fantastic but the management and staff let the whole place down. We stayed in October which is usually a quiet month in Mallorca.and even though there were a large number of guests booked in for a wedding weekend there was a obvious lack of staff , and what staff there were were rushed off their feet.
From having to wait an extra 2 hours for our room to be available , there were missing light bulbs in our bathroom and the confusion as to how many people were staying - .
The culmination of our stay was no hot water for 24 hrs - basically 2 days of our stay. Unbelievable that 30 + guests were left with cold showers and that this was not treated as a major problem by the staff. When we wanted to complain to the manageress we were informed that she was not working that weekend....probably their busiest that month!. Subsequent letters to the hotel chain and management have never been replied to ....says it all reallly ....so much potential but management with no idea about service and how to run a luxury hotel.....will never visit again !

Stayed here for four nights (Jul09) after getting a good deal from the hotel on a Deluxe Pool room. Wow the room was fantastic. Located in the newish out-building away from the main part of the hotel - very quiet with a private pool out front and your own garden. We thought it was absolute bliss and barely left our room as it was so peaceful.

All the staff were absolutely delightful and couldn't have done more to help us and always with a smile which makes such a difference.

Along with the other reviews there really anywhere to eat within 10mins of the hotel apart from the one delightful restaurant in town which as far as I can tell is there solely to cater for hotel guests.

Will definitely return!

Marvelous. The setting was perfect, the staff could not have been more knowledgeable and gracious, and our room was luxurious and beautifully appointed. When we arrived we were greeted and given a tour of the property, which has gorgeous views of the mountains, a lovely terraced dining area, and several pools with comfortable lounges for reading and dozing. Fortunately the a/c in our original room was broken, so we were bumped up to a suite, which had a hot tub and semi-private pool. We are difficult food critics and we found the restaurant food superb, as well as the service and wine selection. It was an added delight to be serenaded by a romantic duo, singer and keyboard player during our marvelous meal. We have no reservations in recommending this property highly.

We stayed recently at this hotel and left feeling somewhat disapointed.

We read the Trip Advisor reviews and as the hotel had been strongly recommended by a friend we thought we should try it, having stayed at El Castillo at Son Vida on a number of occasions previously.

We booked a Superior Room with private terrace and we were allocated Room 42, which is one of three additional rooms built into the side of the original building.

The room was ok, with large well appointed bathroom and yes it did have a terrace which was for your sole use, but it was not private, as people walked passed it to get to their room, so that was the first disapointment.

The hotel itself is lovely, an old 1600's Finca which has been renovated and the restaurant being an old olive press, with many interesting features.

We chose to have the holiday to see more of the island than we had done on previous trips, so we hired a car and each day after breakfast we headed off, which for us was a blessing, as we could not have stuck it chilling out around the pool or grounds of the hotel, as the big issue for us was the noise from the nearby village.

Locals keep dogs not as pets, but as guard dogs and the thing you can guarantee a guard dog will do is bark and boy did they bark ! To pay alot of money to stay at the hotel and to try and chill out and to have those dammed dogs barking each day and all day was a total pain, it would stop us going back to this hotel.

The barking dogs are outside of the control of the hotel, but what is in control of the hotel is the service they provide and the food they serve.

For a 5 star hotel breakfast was adequate and nothing more, the breakfast staff were always attentive and courteous.

Dinner for me was ok, but with a somewhat restrictive menu and with a menu that did not change all week, it made us look elsewhere and as luck would have it, down in the local village was a restaurant called The Rose. It is run by a Dutch couple, he is the Chef and she runs front of house and judging by the number of hotel guests dining, they do pretty well from Son Net and its close proximity. The food was excellent, the wine list was good and the cost reasonable, we would very much recommend The Rose for an evening meal.

So, back to the hotel, it lacks a certain something and I think that is someone in charge who is obvious to its guests. Someone who ciruclates and introduces themselves and gets to know its guests. A hotel manager/proprietor who takes the time and trouble to understand what a guest is thinking of their stay, to make sure the place is providing what its guests are looking for and most of all to make sure people are having a good time.

This did not happen, the only time we saw a manager was when we had a complaint regarding our hire car, which had been booked through the hotel, other than this all managers were anonymous.

Finally, I am sorry to say that we would not return, nor could we recommend this hotel to anyone, it just has too many issues.

Ends;

We had to give this one star, particularly after having returned a month ago, we were upset to see this hotel still getting such a high rating. We chose this hotel as it had been given such good reviews on trip advisor and to be honest it was cheaper than La Residentia, which we had always wanted to stay.
What a mistake! The hotel is set in lovely surroundings and the manor house itself is lovely, but it is short staffed and poorly managed.
We were shown to our pool suite - the whole room but particularly the bathroom had more paint and plaster falling on the floor that on the walls as there was a serious damp problem - complete with mobile dehumidifier set up in the bathroom - and it smelt. We couldn't believe they were trying to let this room out - for a 5 star hotel that was a very poor reflection. As no other rooms were available, we stayed that night on the promise of a move the next morning. We moved to find that they had put us in another room with the same problem, though not quite so bad. We had chosen this suite as it had an outside jaccuzzi - which was ice cold and didn't work! Despite a call to the maintence man, who pressed a few buttons and left saying it was mended - it clearly was not, and we got the distinct impression they were taking us for a ride. The reception staff then failed to return our calls to try to resolve the matter.
The restaurant was OK but overpriced, the breakfast was poor - very slow to be served and the buffet was only replenished sporadically.
The following day the manager finally appeared. She was very apologetic and we were offered an upgrade, but by this point we just had lo st all faith.
We decided we had to leave, something we've never done before - it was very upsetting. It was the best decision we ever made - we had 5 nights at La Residentia and had one of the best stays we've had anywhere in the world.
