We selected for Son Net for 3 nights with the express intent of doing nothing but laying by the pool and drinking sangria. The Son Net was a perfect setting for our lazy weekend: Beautiful mountain views, lovely restored finca, good food, really good drinks...and excellent peace and quiet. We were in one of the 4 rooms with a private pool and we generally didnt leave our room until dinner. Food and drinks came to us in wonderful fashion, with the spacious and comfortable room and jacuzzi a nice retreat when laying by the pool became too taxing. It is fair to say that you def need a car if you want to do town and beach visits, but Son Net is centrally located, the little town in walking distance has a very nice restaurant (the rose) and it is close enough to palma to get in and out quickly. Son Net met/ exceeded expectations.

This hotel one of my absolute favorite hotels in the world! It's very tranquil and sophisticated in a cozy spacious setting. The rooms a very large and charming. The reception and other areas are wonderful to experience - it an old building and has that old charm, yet everything is updated an nice in every way.
The breakfast is sufficient but not extravagant. Dining at night was superb. Spending time by the pool was the best. Very comfortable sun chairs, lots of space and if you want extra privacy you can have that too for a fee. Being at this hotel watching the mountains and the landscape is totally different from the hectic atmosphere by the coast. If you want a place to hide from the world but still have want ever you want with an easy reach is is the place for you. Of course this isn't the cheapest place to stay at, but you get what you pay for.

Gran Son Net

Location:
Certainly it's a beautiful building in a beautiful location and it has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard. It is remote though, and there is little to offer in the local village, so a car is advisable if you want to bring some variation into your evening meals or see some other parts of the island.
Accommodation:
Our room (number 30, apparently the best in the hotel) was enormous and very elegant, although a little "tired" in places. Although the suite was enormous and had two bathrooms, there was only one working toilet, which was surprising and occasionally inconvenient. We were also a little disappointed to discover that there were only three English language TV stations available via satellite, one of which was the endlessly repeating Sky News and another the redundant (to us anyway) CBeebies. This left us with just BBC 1 Yorkshire. This was in stark contrast to the 20 or so German language stations available.
Restaurant:
The restaurant produced good quality food in general, but service was always slow. At breakfast, it was particularly haphazard. I believe breakfast service starts at 07:30, but when we came down an hour later than this today, there were no tables set and we had to call out to a waiter as he flitted from inside to outside to get his attention to order breakfast. The coffee he served us was lukewarm and when we saw our plates of hot food brought out by a waitress, we were disappointed to observe her place them on a side table and then disappear inside again. They stood there for 5 minutes until our waiter came out again and brought them over (lukewarm). They need to get a little better organised at breakfast. The breakfast buffet was also poor, with dried up cucumber, poor quality (or maybe just old) pastries and fruit salad that looked like it had been left in the fridge, uncovered, overnight. For the first time ever, my wife felt she couldn't eat a "fresh" fruit salad. Cooked items on the other hand were excellent, with tasty fresh eggs and quality bacon.
The lunch menu was a little limited but nicely prepared and tasty. Once again, hot food was served lukewarm. It appears that the cause of this is cold plates, as when we checked, they were never warm. Service at lunch was much better, but when we asked what the fish of the day was yesterday, we were baldly informed "None". the waitress went on to say "I have not been informed of any fish". We weren't sure what this actually meant, but the expected offer to find out for us the availability of fish was not forthcoming.
Dinner was very good; quality ingredients, well prepared. Wine was OK but overpriced in our view, even for a restaurant. The one dinner we had at the hotel, including a bottle of wine with the main course and two glasses of dessert wine with pudding, cost us around 180 Euro with the tip (can't remember exactly, probably due to the wine). We considered this to be rather expensive, and too much for the overall experience we received. We were also surprised by yesterday's lunch bill of 118 Euros (without tip) considering I only had a bowl of Gazpacho and a Club Sandwich and my wife some grilled vegetables and some tagliatelle (which wasn't very good and mostly left on the plate).
In short, we feel the restaurant is overpriced and the service could improve.
Pool:
Freezing. So cold, there was hardly ever anyone in it and we overheard many complaints of how cold it was. We like to swim, but in the week we were there, I only ventured in twice, and I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack on either occasion. We did hear a rumour that it is heated, but something is broken and is too expensive to repair or replace.
Service around the pool is good and the sun loungers and shades are excellent. Positioning of the pool area is also excellent and the sun pours into the area all day long. It is possible to have a cabana for a day, but it will cost you 38 Euros, which includes 2 cocktails (non-alcoholic, which wasn't mentioned at the time) and a bottle (maybe two) of water. Somehow, this doesn't seem like a good deal to me. I don't mind paying for drinks, but paying for a cabana is a different matter.
Summary:
On the plus side, a beautiful building in a beautiful location, with stylish and expensive decor, good restaurant, lovely bar area, excellent pool area, friendly and attentive staff (with the exceptions noted above concerning the restaurant) and a genuine feeling of comfort and opulence. On the downside, the breakfast experience was not so good, the food was occasionally average and always expensive and the pool is simply too cold to use.
We also found one of the managers (Alexander I think) very rude and unpleasant to deal with.
Would we come here again? No, probably not.

Dear guest,

first of all we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Gran Hotel Son Net with us.
If we understand your review correctly you stayed with us last in October 2012. You are absolutely right in saying that some of the shortcoming do alter our 5 star standards to an unacceptable extend.
We would therefore like to stress that in the meantime most of the points you are mentioning have been solved. The breadfast buffet and service has been reviewed and changed thoroughly for example.
We would love to welcome you back to Gran Hotel Son Net and show you that we can and will do better.
Best regards

Stayed in this gorgeous hotel for 4 nights in June. The ambience is superb and the views spectacular!

We stayed in a pool room which was very private with a hot tub and seperate swimming pool for the 4 rooms - very relaxing and intimate.

If I had a criticism then the service in the restaurant was pretty slow and the room service a bit hit and miss especially with the pool rooms being so far from the main building!

I defy anyone not to rate this hotel as excellent as the total experience was lovely. Perhaps the introduction of tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be the only thing I would have liked to see, that wasn't available!

Fab place!

Having stayed at some of the nicest Hotels on the Island over the years, we decided to pay the Son Net a visit.
My flight was cancelled last Wednesday thanks to the French air traffic controllers, so I managed to rearrange an early flight on Thursday from Manchester to Palma.
My wife had arrived at the Son Net on Wednesday having been at a conference on the Island since Monday.
On arriving at the Hotel on Thursday at midday, the welcome was pleasant, the hotel has a beautiful reception area which is trendy Old Finca Chic.
My wife was dragged screaming and kicking from her Cabana by the pool to greet my arrival.
We were escorted to our room by the staff who were obviously pleased to show off the fabulous suite, there are only 31 rooms.
Our experience whilst in the hotel was of an excellent staff, from Diego, Juan, Jose and Ignacio to name a few, although they were all fabulous, so much so that I would say they were collectively the best staff we have experienced, in any hotel we have had the pleasure to visit.
Breakfast and dinner are served on a fabulous terrace, which basks in the shadows of the Tramuntana, and lends a majestic air to the dining experience.
The food is good but not stunning, though the wine list, which includes wine from the Son Nets' own vineyards is good.
We enjoyed a bottle of Vega Sicilia with our dinner as the sun brought the day to an end.
There are nice features around the hotel and a fountain provides a therapeutic backdrop to a peaceful setting.
We enjoyed the Son Net and I was inspired to write a poem

The Sun spends the days swapping stories with the mountains.
Interrupted by a passing breeze or babbling of fountains.
The pool indulges bathing to the shade of the cabana.
Otro Diane en Paraiso, Gracias Son Net Tramuntana.

Ciao
We'll be back

Room Tip: The best rooms are relatively expensive but worth it.

My wife and I were married 26th May 2013 at the Western Isles Hotel in Tobermory Isle of Mull, it was a beautiful and spectacular occasion. Just how we had imagined it.

We had always planned to go on a 'Minimoon' for something cheap and cheerful and relaxing. However we didnt book anything up. We decided to book flights to Palma, and spend the weekend in one of our favourite cities. We began to look at hotels, prices, locations etc.

We came across the Son Net. Situated about 35 euros away from Palma in a taxi. It was not what we had wanted as we were saving up to go to a more luxurious place such as the Son Net later in the year.

However still in celebration mode, giddy with excitement we decidied to ring the Son Net to see if they were abel to accomodate us and offer us any kind of deal. We were in luck. We were offered a room. We paid a deposit over the phone and arrived earlier than we had anticipated the following day.

We got a taxi to the hotel and maybe ion future we will hire a car. We passed through Puigpunyent, practically unspoiled by the tourist trade and up the hill to what I can only describe as the most perfect way to spend a honeymoon, and the most beautifully boutique of hotels.

As i say we arrived earlier than we had informed the hotel, btu they greeted us with open arms, took our belonings and directed us to the bar/chimney room. We had welcome drinks and eventualy our room was ready. Even though it was our fault we were early, it was the hotel who apologised for our wait.

This was typical of the staff who were fantastic.

We were in for a real treat as we had been upgraded to the Presidential Suite, and the only way I can describe this suite is as follows .....WOW. When we went in, I could have cried, 2 four poster beds, a massive living room and bathroom. There was also a superb balcony spread across the hotel with spectacular views of the Majorcan hills. Even if the Presidential Suite is to expenive, each and every room must have a similarly amazing view and from the photographs excellent facilities.

We had room service, the food was excellent. We then went down in the evening for a tasting menu. During our stay we went to Portal nous for a 2 Michelin Starred meal. I can honestly say, the food in the hotel blew the tasty food in Tristans out of the water.

The breakfast was amazing also.

The rooms themselves were spotlessly clean as was everything else in the hotel, and the poolside, and the pool itself although freezing cols, was a great experience, as it too looks out onto the Majorcan hills.

I have already mentioned how amazing the staff were, but for our one week anniversary, I bought my wife a pair of earrings, on sale in the hotel. The hotel arranged for them to be laced in the room at the time the following day I requested. They were helpful, polite, engaging, and offered a service second to none.

I completely fell in love with this attractive hotel, the people and enjoyed our short trip into Puigpunyent, but would say there was very little there except an excellent gin bar. We didnt eat in the Rose, a local restaurant, we chose the Villa, which i have to say was disappointing, but very cheap.

I cannot wait to return to the Hotel again in the future. Although, I will be saving my pennies for a while yet. It was not the cheap get away we had envisaged, but it certainly was the icing on our wedding cake. It was completely perfect in every way and I can only thank the staff for making our time there so special.

A lovely luxurious and very friendly hotel. A true 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for the Presidential Suite, if you cannot, I would see if there is a superio...

Beautiful hotel in wonderful setting. We were here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary having left our two teenage children at home. It was the perfect romantic short break and hope to return when we can. The suite was so spacious and very luxurious, we even had a large telescope so we could enjoy the views from our sitting room (room 29 Antonio Torrandell).
The pool area is lovely with lots of beds and areas to relax and sunbathe.
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
A very big thank you to everyone for making our stay so special and especially to Xisco the Reservations Manager for our wonderful room and for allowing us a later check out.
We will recommend to all our friends.
