“You couldn't ask for a better hotel”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

We have just returned from a 6 day break at the astoria playa. On arrival we were really impressed by how modern the hotel looked. The rooms look brand new and they have done a very good job having apparently spent 8 millon pounds upgrading it. We have stayed in other hotels in Alcudia and felt by far this is the best and the most up to date. The beds are really comfortable and the room comfort is great, we were on the 6th floor so had a great view of Alcudia too.The food is the best we have had yet and was very impressed by the choice and the quality, the staff are so friendly and always smiled and cracked a joke with you. The chill out area by the pool is lovely for relaxing and at night they have some good acts if you like Abba or Tina Turner, we watched one and were impressed but spent a lot of time out and about at night because we are a 30 year old couple so like to explore the nightlife. The pool areas are great for chilling out at, my favorite was the pool at the front of the hotel as the size of it is pretty big and spent most of my time in it and it has a nice jacuzzi you can relax in. The location of the hotel is perfect and you only have to walk across the road and you are more or less at the beach,we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return to this hotel as it has everything you could wish for, well done Astoria playa and thank you for an amazing stay

Room Tip: If you like your rooms spacious choose a junior suit as the basic rooms can be quite small

Positives:
1. Rooms were refurbished to excellent standard, towels, flannels and shower gel always available
2. 2 excellent swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds
3. Friendly helpful staff
4. Good location for beach, bars and restaurants,

Negatives
1. The restaurant was really nice, the breakfast was fine but we didnt enjoy the evening meals, neither of us are fussy eaters and to be fair we only tried it 3 times but, in our opinion this could be better.

2. I still find it annoying that you have to pay for the use of the safe and for wifi, I appreciate that most hotels do this but I still find it annoying.

3. No tea making facilities in the room remember to take your own.

4. No pool towels provided so take your own

5. If you like an early night get a room away from the main road as evening entertainment is outside and doesnt finish until gone 11.30.

Overall our holiday was great so I hope my negatives aren't too off putting.

Room Tip: All rooms are good just beware evening entertainment

As a seasoned traveller to this hotel (this was my 10th visit) I can honestly say the transformation is amazing and they have done a fantastic job with the refurb. Yes there are a couple of little things they are still ironing out but these are things they were only able to find out about once the hotel was open for business and the management are happy to listen to any comments/suggestions the guests have.
The rooms are now very bright and airy and the waterfall shower in the bathroom is the best I have ever come across. Some of the other reviews mentioned there wasn't enough storage space but my husband and I thought there was ample room for a fortnight's worth of clothing. Also to all the people who mentioned there is no mirror in the bedroom, the management are aware of this and advised us that mirrors will be added to all rooms during the winter shutdown.
The restaurant has been a revelation. On previous visits I have always found the food to be really good but now it's on a completely different level. There may not be as much choice as previous stays but the quality is first class. The freshly cooked eggs and pancakes at breakfast were a must and the freshly cooked pasta and fish in the evening's had so much flavour they were hard to resist so I could try some of the other things on offer! On our last day we went to the El Rincon hotel snack bar for lunch and again the food was excellent, the freshly cooked meat was of exceptional quality, the beef on my kebab just melted in the mouth and I would highly recommend you give it a try at least once during your stay.
The new chill out area by the pool to the rear of the hotel is very tranquil and a great place to enjoy an ice cold drink out of the sun during the day. The new sunbeds around this pool are also some of the most comfortable I have ever lay on. A heads up for future guests, the hotel are investing in pool towels which guests can 'hire' for a refundable deposit, should be available very soon.
Finally this review wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention the fantastic staff at the Astoria Playa. Everyone from the management, reception, cleaning, dining and bar staff go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one. We would like to give special mentions to our old friends Gabriel, Walter, Felipe, Malayna, Rafa, Manolo, Alex and Francis and also to new friends Guierrmo, Susanna and Lily - they truly made our holiday special and are the main reason we keep returning. Also a big thank you to the owner Pepe and the manager Adeline as they were happy to listen to all of our comments regarding the new look of the hotel.
If you are looking for somewhere to chill out, enjoy your holiday in peaceful surroundings and get looked after then the Astoria Playa is for you - we can't wait to go back next year!

Returned 20/07/2013, We stayed at the Astoria Playa for 11 nights apart from the long transfer Journey everything about our holiday was fantastic. The hotel from top to bottom is superb from the cleaners/maids to the owner of the hotel i could not fault it, anyone that does is just nit picking if you expect the full comforts of home then thats where you should stay. A big thank you to the Astoria Playa and all of it's staff for your very hard work.

After 2 hour transfer disappointed to be told there was not a room available until the following day! We were told that we would be taken in taxi to Can Picafort were we had been booked into to a 4*hotel which we found to be o.k but not sure how they got to be classed as such, we were told to return at 11.30 the following day to the Astoria Playa. Obviously not too happy as only there for 7days and had to spend first 2 moving around resorts packing and unpacking.
We were offered compensation, unfortunately not an upgrade as previous reviewers have mentioned! also told NO when we requested drinks with evening meal. We had option of car hire for a day or boat trip.
Double booking does seem problematic at the moment in this Hotel and level of compensation is not consistent.
However the Astoria is a great hotel which has been refurbished beautifully. The rooms are tastefully simple with fab bathrooms. All public areas are clean, comfortable and a pleasure to be in. Loved the Dining Room where all meals are well cooked, well presented with enough choice on offer.
Staff are polite and friendly with a the presence of the Management always evident.
Really nice not to be part of a large Hotel chain.
If the Astoria can sort out the "double booking" issue they really have something to be proud of.
Need to venture to the Port,10 mins along the beach path to have good choice of bars etc as area surrounding the Astoria is rather tacky! and incredibly noisy due to the busy road which splits resort from the beach.
Beach is fab and well worth a visit as set well back from the road.
After a disappointing start we had a great holiday.

Being 5 months pregnant I desperatly wanted a holiday that wasn't too far away from home, that provided some much needed relaxation with a nice beach and lovely restaurants around. As its my first child I wanted somewhere with no children so that me and my partner could enjoy our time as adults one last time before the baby arrives. I'm very particular about the type of hotels I stay in, and after hours of trawling thru reviews decided on the Astoria due to the modern clean look as it had been newly refurbished. The hotel is beautiful. Very clean, lovely staff and furnished to a wonderful modern standard. Having never been alcudia before, we quickly learned that this hotel was definatly a diamond in the rough! The beach is fantastic, wonderful clean soft sand, beds on the beach are 4.50 euros a day wich I thought was reasonable. It is however a child's paradise, everywhere you turn there is children, and we went specifically out of school holidays to avoid! This didn't impact us massively though as the hotel provided tranquil enough surroundings around there lovely pool areas. I prefer the back pool with the round jacuzzi and comfortable rattan sun loungers. We were half board and the food selection was good. They do seem to go overboard with pork though, would be nice to see some steak on the menu! Breakfast was the best, mini British sausage was available and fairly decent bacon, along with the champagne others have mentioned. I was also one of the few mentioned who arrived at 1.30am to be told they had double booked, was whisked away to a hotel in c'an pica fort...it was 4* above the door but I would have been mortally disappointed if I'd booked to stay there for more than one night! Due to the inconvenience we were upgraded to a suite which made our holiday. There was initial issues with the air con, but once raised they were addressed promptly. A few niggles were that the toiletries were never replenished in our room...something I do expect from a 4** hotel. And they were a tad stingy on the bath towls. Tip..take a beach towe l as they do not provide them for the loungers at the hotel. The little fridges in the room are not the best at keeping things cool. Oh and if your partial to cups of tea (like my partner) you may wish to invest in a travel kettle, as one is not available and the tacky shops around the hotel do not sell them.

The area surrounding the hotel is a little disappointing. No nice restaurants or bars...only the awful English type that have menus with pictures of the food in....not my bag at all. The shops too are typical tat beach shops, and there is a spar on every corner which is very handy for water and snacks.

For better restaurants head to the port and walk round the Marina. Love looking at the yachts and the restaurants are far more up market. The old town is good too for some decent restaurants and better boutiquey type shops.

If you want a relaxing adults holiday in alcudia this hotel is the only option!

Just returned on 16th July had a great holiday. Hotel excellent in every aspect. Staff deserve credit they are all very polite and friendly , keep the hotel looking immaculate . Food was great lots of choice and something different every night. Great outdoor comfy seating area to chill out and enjoy a cocktail, listening to the evenings entertainment. If I had to be picky the only thing I could find annoying was probably getting a sun lounger around the pool , by 9.30 they would all have been taken or reserved.I think the hotel could do with a few more which you could put on the grass area around the hotel .On saying this this problem would only occur in July and August when the hotel is full. Later on in the day we could usually get one to enjoy late afternoon sunshine .Great location right by the beach and only a 15min walk from the lovely marina with its many bars and restaurants , great atmosphere in the evening with its little market stalls.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a relaxing chilling holiday.

Room Tip: We staying in room 324 which was in the shade all day this was lovely for the time of the year but m...
