“Very good family hotel”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

The hotel is obviously very good...
… but we spent another half of our holiday in Iberostar Albufera Park, and Albufera was better.
1. Both hotels have large 2-rooms family apartments with kitchen corner. But in Ciudad the bedroom has no windows, so air conditioning is must, and in Albufera both rooms exit to a large balcony, so you can sleep just with open window (we were there in July).
2. Pools is a weak point of Ciudad. There are 2 medium-size pools for a large hotel - not enough swimming space. Albufera has 6 pools, cascading from deep to padding pool. Any time we came some single sunbeds were available.
3. Both hotels face the beach with fine white sand and clear sea. It's really good. In Albufera - more quiet, in Ciudad - very big, with many rows of sunbeds.
4. Both hotels are available in 3 board types: "all inclusive" (very good restaurants), "half board" (in Ciudad we had perfect breakfast and lunch in the hotel and a little walk with variety of restaurants in the evening) and "room only" (with a kitchen corner and the nearest superstore in 2 minutes walk from each hotel). Ciudad has a really rich choice of restaurants in the vicinity (we recommend to try Chinese buffet across the road).
5.Albufera is located in countryside, Ciudad - in larger touristic village with better choice of restaurants, shops and other activities - so we had nice evening promenades.
And in total - we had a perfect stay with 2 children (4 and 7 years) in both hotels.

Room Tip: In high floors there is a fantastic seaview.

Reviewed July 10, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in August – a family of 4, including children aged 11 & 13. It was our second stay here, having been before in the summer of 2009.

We were attracted back as we were booking fairly late and knew it was a safe option for a quality hotel in an excellent location. Although overall it didn’t disappoint, it was sad to see that some aspects of the hotel services had worsened over the last couple of years. In particular the animation team, which was a real plus point in 2009, this year seemed to be going through the motions. The Iberostar chain had deliberately cut back on the animation team numbers in each hotel, partly due to cost cuts but mainly because of a policy change whereby virtually all the evening shows were performed by ’specialist’ Ibersostar performers who went from hotel to hotel putting on the same show in each one. This meant that the animation team who you got to know during the day, were not the ones putting on the show for you at night, and from talking to them that upset them as much as it did us. This hotel has many repeat visitors, and the feeling was shared by all that we spoke to: Iberostar, please rethink this policy! Whilst on the subject, just wanted to say a big thank you to ‘Colombo’, Sacha, and Richard, who played a big part in making our stay such fun.

Other negatives were that the rooms, which were a little jaded and dated back in 2009, were still the same, although to be fair they were still perfectly functional. And as usual the maid service was spot on. Also, the equipment used for some of the activities was in very poor condition, for example the air rifle barely worked from one day to the next (constant blockages and mis-fires which took an age to resolve each day) and the bows for the archery had seen better days. It’s a family hotel so you’ve got to expect some disturbance from children, but there needed to be more supervision around the ‘quiet’ pool, as this was the scene of constant jumping and bombing. I can understand this as it’s the deeper pool, but the problem is the hotel try and treat it as the quiet pool yet do nothing to enforce this. Perhaps they should have a couple of splash hours a day where it’s encouraged and supervised, and those who want a bit of peace and quiet can organise their day accordingly?

On the plus side, the beach remains a real highlight, the pools were kept very clean, the new tables and chairs installed in all the outdoor areas were a big improvement on the old plastic ones, and the food remains superb in terms of both choice and quality. Also, many staff were still there which I guess is a good sign, and in general they were friendly and polite (with the exception of the lady in the lobby bar, who shall remain nameless, but she was a right old misery). The chef who did the BBQs on the other hand, was a workaholic who was a credit to the hotel.

There was a family of resident cats, however, there’s obviously a degree of in-breeding as all but one of the kittens was missing a hind leg, although it didn’t seem to bother them. But if you’re not a cat lover don’t worry as it’s a huge site and there’s only half a dozen or so and they don’t really bother you for food or attention unless you want them to!

On the all inclusive deal, you can get branded drinks (not sure about out of season when there are different classes of AI) but you need to ask specifically for them, e.g. Absolut vodka, or Beefeater/Gordons gin.

We paid 35 Euros to hire the in-room safe, but got a bit lazy and often left valuables like cameras and phones laying around, however, an Austrian family we got to know, had the misfortune to have their room raided and had several valuable items stolen including their camera with 2 weeks’ worth of priceless photos which they lost forever. Please remember not to take anything for granted, and always use the safe, even if it’s a pain sometimes!!!

While we were there, the hotel suddenly adopted a new policy for dealing with the early morning sunbed reserving routine. Each night they piled them in stacks 10 high, and chained them up. They were unchained at 08:50, and the best thing about this was that you could sit and enjoy your breakfast while watching loads of people standing for up to an hour next to a pile of sunbeds waiting for them to be unchained. Unbelievable! After a few days, people cottoned on and started putting their towels down on the floor, on the area they were intending to later place a sunbed. So sad.

We knew from last time that the beachfront walk to the marina was a must-do, and we really enjoyed spending a couple of evenings in the bars at the marina which offered a different atmosphere to the hotel. Bar Aqua, at the end of the pier, remains a favourite for its fantastic views, especially at sunset.

This year we visited the Hydropark, the small water park in Alcudia. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and I’d recommend buying tickets in advance from your rep. Although no cheaper, they were ‘fast passes’ which enabled you to avoid the huge queues when it opened – just look out for the relevant entry point at the front of the park – still needed to queue, but much much shorter. When in the park, buy a sunbed ticket and head straight for the beds, then bag yourself a spot under one of the parasols, you’ll be grateful for the shade as the day wears on. Oh, and if you’re a thrill seeker, this park isn’t for you as it’s only got a handful of larger slides – go to the one in Magaluf instead.

We also went to the old town on market day. The market itself was a mixture of traditional Marjocan stalls, generally with fixed prices, and other stalls run by ‘non-Majorcans’ which all sold the same sort of fake designer goods and/or random cheap electric gadgets. No prices were displayed, just a case of haggling and walking away. Much nicer was when we left the market area and walked around the original medieval wall of the old town – some fantastic views and some great photos.

Another fun trip was when we hired bicycles from the hotel (probably cheaper elsewhere but this was most convenient) for a late afternoon/early evening ‘adventure’. Where the hotel backs on to the beach, you turn left to head towards the marina and right to head towards…well we didn’t really know so we rode that way to find out! It was a lovely ride although after a while the beach path ended, and we then rode through a wooded area which nestled between the beach and some lovely beachside apartments. We then rode through small side streets stopping every now and then at a beach front bar for a nice cold drink. We stopped and turned back when eventually reaching a dual carriageway, but all in all it was a lovely relaxing and fun few hours.

So, yes we would still recommend this hotel. Particularly if you want somewhere close to an excellent beach, and where the food, drink, entertainment and service is generally of a high quality

Our stay in Ciudad Blanca was a great experience.

The hotel lobby was clean and shinny.
The reception was very helpful and we got a map of the hotel at arrival and a bus schedule.
We also got a free upgrade from double bedroom studio to seaview apartment.
The location is excellent, right on the beach and, restaurants and shops near by and 15 minutes from Port Alcudia.
The room had a clean bathroom, large Terrance, Air conditioning, TV (only German channels).
With 2 swimming pools, different shows every night both for children and adults, wonderful gardens and great location (next to the white sand beach), its a must visit hotel.

The only few problems we had were:
- not the best beds we have slept on
- a couple of mosquitoes in the room
- some trouble while paying with a crediit card (resolved quickly)

A definite recommendation.

Room Tip: Block 6 with a sea view is amazing.

Just returned from an amazing holiday here. Read other reviews and can't believe people can complain about this hotel. Food great, impecably clean, staff so friendly, entertainment staff out of this world 'where do they get all their energy from'. Evenings shows excellent. Beach towels can be hired & changed daily. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone of all ages. A big thank you to all the staff for making our holiday one of the best. Will definately return again.

Have just come back from a 1 week holiday at the Ciudad Blanca, what a wonderful holiday, our party consisted of myself, husband, son,daughter-in-law and grandchildren ages 4 and 23months. On arrival we were upgraded straight away to bigger rooms, these were very clean perhaps a bit dated BUT you don't live in your room all week.We were in block 2 which overlooks the stage the noise didn't bother us as we were watching the entertainment it finished at about 11.00pm only 1 noisy evening and that was when Spain won the World Cup well you can't knock that can you, well done to them. The staff work very hard and are all friendly my grandaughter loved every second, there was one particular young girl from Holland, I think her name was Sylvia works very hard very friendly and always smilling
This Hotel works very well with children, as the beach is on the door step lovely beach and a lovely walk along the beach in the evening .
The resturant staff were always very wellcoming and the food good, lots of different things to try, the fish was really good. The sweets were always lovely with lots of choices, you wont go hungry!!
The person in charge of our room was Trini who worked really hard and always had a friendly Hola for us.
Our holiday was a lovely one, if you have children it is the ideal place, there is kids club where they make and do things with the children but we didn't use this.
All in all wonderful, I have never gone back to a resort twice before, always tried different countries but would go back there. No complaints.
