We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day holiday at the Platja d'Or. What's not to like? Amazing location, delicious food (and drink!) great entertainment and a dedicated team of staff who ensure you have a good time.
We are so glad that we were NOT there at the same time as the previous whingers and moaners as they would have spoilt it all.
Maybe if on their future holidays, they try and join in, have some fun and meet people, they MIGHT just find that they are able to enjoy themselves.
We have never previously returned to the same hotel but we will certainly be back next year for another fab time. Thanks again to everyone there!

We have just spent a week here; this was our first time.

The Hotel generally looks OK without being impressive; it is rated locally as a three star. There is a water feature at the front of the Hotel which appears stagnant and could do with renovation or re-designing. During the week most people we spoke to had been bitten but there is a lake a block away behind the hotel, trees all around and the beach just across the quiet no-through road, so the source of the biting insects is difficult to ascertain. Plus the fact that it was unusually warm for the time of year. Strongly advise that you take insect repellent.

The rooms are adequate but on the small side; the beds were firm and did creak with movement. It helps if the beds are pulled slightly away from the wall and this benefits your neighbours too! Rooms and all communal areas were keep clean.

It is a delight to note that the Hotel was mainly full of older people. No children is a huge bonus. The Bar staff are excellent, fast and efficient. The is an established queuing system which works well. A large screen tv with Sky Sports or UK soaps addressed a need.

We can't comment on the evening entertainment but comments seem to indicate a mixed reception.

The food was perfectly acceptable. It is a serve-yourself establishment and I was surprised that there is no other option (there are lots of external establishments of course). Having said that, we found the food warm enough and with sufficient variety. One cannot expect to have really hot food with a two-hour buffet - even 4/5-star establishments have not cracked this one. There is clearly an effort to cater to "British" tastes but one has to remember that you are not in the UK. I found the fruit crumbles were excellent but no Birds custard!! Ice cream was a fine substitute.

The restaurant staff collect plates efficiently, and are very pleasant. The Restaurant manager makes an effort to speak to everyone and is very approachable. The reception area staff are helpful with nothing too much trouble. Having failed to a hire a car through the reps we hired a Hertz car through reception. This was a very good move. A cheaper package with total insurance and no excess: 108 euros for three days - car delivered to the hotel and left there at the conclusion.

The Hotel is well situated with shops in walking distance left and right or by bus if preferred. The sandy beach is straight out of the door 1 minute away. This is the longest beach I believe on the island, but what looks like a power station on the next headland somewhat spoils the picture. The bay is extremely shallow which must be excellent for families but you must be prepared to walk a long way out if you want to swim in a reasonable depth of water. Water quality appears excellent; it certainly looks clear. Sun beds can be hired for the day from the local authority at 4.50 euros per day. I do not know how regularly this is checked especially at this time of year.

On the whole this hotel delivers what it promises. If one wants hot food with a huge variety served immaculately in tables in secluded areas then go somewhere else. Wherever you go you will be lucky to meet a more friendly and efficient staff and get better value-for-money.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the beach have morning sunlight and a quieter outlook. That facing the lake have after...

just returned from two weeks at this hotel, room we had was on the 4th floor overlooking pool, nice room with maid service excellent however room needs updating.Food quality and selection was average but service both from kitchen and dining room staff was first class. The bar staff was the best I have ever witnessed, quick service with a smile, the queing system worked well and the drinks both quality and quantity GREAT.The entertainment of an evening was first class in particular Bee GEES,Four Tops,Jersey Boys,Rock Band and Soul Sounds but Elvis was very poor. All areas of the hotel were kept spotless from reception through to pool area and cannot fault this hotel for the price we paid.

I stayed here in July 2013 with my girlfriend and my parents.
Hotel is clean and the food is good too. Salad and fruit was particularly good considering this is all-inclusive and fresh food can sometimes suffer in this setting.
Entertainment varied from night to night. Best one had to be the Phil Collins/Genesis act which converted me to liking Phil Collins such was the delivery of the songs.
The entertainment room itself does feel a little like an institution with chairs all facing one way with arm rests - on some occasions I felt I was in a twilight home for the bewildered!
There is a queue system for the bar which definitely suits the clientele. I get the impression that many of the people here come year after year and has become a second home.
The beach nearby is beautiful and it's definitely worth hiring a sunbed as you get a coastal breeze while you're sunbathing. A dip in the sea is great too - it's shallow for a long way out and crystal clear.
Had a good time there.

Just returned, this was our third time. The price was right! The Hotel looks a bit under the weather we had hoped it would have been brightened up a bit. There is a water feature at the back of the Hotel, well a stagnant pond, it must harbor a multitude of insects especially mosquitoes most people we spoke to had been bitten.
The rooms are adequate but small, the beds were OK but creaked every time you moved, well next doors did. All areas were keep clean. The toilets in the communal area were very small if you bent down to wipe your bum you banged your head on the door, just a personal thing maybe I'm to tall.
I admit the Hotel was mainly full of older people but that's why they keep going back, no KIDS.
The Bar staff are excellent, fast and efficient, I found Hector a bit abrupt at times but you'll always get one.
The evening entertainment was usually very good, mostly tribute bands. Elvis was an acquired taste, you'd only go back to see him again if you didn't believe it the first time. The Jersey Boys, a tribute to Frankie Valli were brilliant. As for the entertainment team Maria and James who ran the daytime activities with hardly any equipment (No investment from the owner, just keep raking in the profits) they were the highlight of the holiday, thank you both, XX.
The food was adequate, but repetitive, there were theme nights, Mexican, Chinese, Indian. A bit more work on the curries needed. The restaurant staff very good.
Reception area and staff nothing was to much trouble.
The location of the Hotel, shops in walking distance left and right or by bus if preferred. The beach straight out of the door 1 minute away and what a beach miles of it, soft warm sand cleaned every day, shallow sea for 100 yards. Even my wife was tempted to have a paddle.

Room Tip: The Hotel is only 4 floors, the beach side is quieter but low rooms obscured by trees. The road side...

This is our 3rd holiday at the Platja D'Or. It was, once again, a relaxing holiday. The hotel don't accept children under 16 so no noisy kids!!
The reception staff are very helpful - nothing too much trouble. The rooms are pretty basic but clean and comfortable. The Thomsons reps are very informative and always willing to help.
The pool area has plenty of sun beds. No need to "bag" a sunbed before 8.00 a.m.!!
On the down side, the food could do with been a bit hotter. You help yourself to wine, beer and soft drinks.
The hotel must be doing something right as we saw a few couples that were there the same time as us last year.
Looking forward to our 4th visit.

Room Tip: We had room 255. Second floor overlooking the pool. Gets the afternoon sun.
