“not bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

The hotel is very clean and the staff friendly. It is quite isolated from shops and places of entertainment, conseqently if you dont want to enjure third rate tribute bands or childish attempts by the two resident entertainers, you'll be stuck or will have to get a bus or cab to find something else. The rooms were OK and the beds didn't bother us as they did for some other reviewers. The food we found was generally not bad with lots of variety and if you are lucky enough to find some that is hot and not luke warm, it can be enjoyable. I complained to the restaurant manager and the head chef who gave the excuse that people were leaving the covers off. I told him to get a microvave. James was very good with the daytime activities and kept ev'ryone happy. I won't repeat what others have said about the beach and the bar. It's true.

Room Tip: rooms at front hot in the morning rooms at rear, poolside, hot in the afternoon

I can't fault the place from its warm welcome by Andreas, Juan and Muguel who spoke around 10 languages between them. The quirky but useful swap box - great for picking up some factor 30 on the way to the beach and the all inclusive bar and restaurant. The food and drinks department was well catered for and nobody went hungry or thirsty, thats for sure.
We absolutely loved "bungle tumble" and his partner in crime Miss Maria Moore for their nonstop banter and endearing wit and charm. The day time activities we didnt really bother with because after drinking the bar dry we just wanted to lie on the beach until the evening quiz and caberet. Loved Oceans tribute to the 4 tops, Elvis tribute, Maria's stand up and James' sing along nights. Hoping to go back next year.

We spent a week in Platja D'OR at the end of September. We've been to a lot of all inclusive hotels in the Carribean so my view might be slightly coloured by that in that all inclusive in europe never seems to measure up.

However it is a 3 star hotel (Thomsons rate it 4T) and over all was a reasonable hotel, the staff i would say are 4 star but there are a few things that pull it down.

Accommodation: We were in 217, the room is right at the end so good in that there is no traffic going past room and can see around to the sunbeds and to the beach, although you can only see the beach through the trees. The room is fairly small and 2 single beds but more than adequate for a couple. the decor is dated and the floors are carpeted rather than tiled. The bed mattresses as has been mentioned are of the foam type but they are hard, i have a bad back and hip and i didn't always sleep well in them, it would make a big difference if they could do something about those.

The shower was fine and quite powerful but there was no extract fan so everything steamed up pretty quickly.

Towels were changed every day and cleaning staff did an excellent job. There is a safe in the room but you have to pay for this, i used it and had no issues.

There is plenty of cupboard space and the decor is dark wood as people have mentioned but to be honest it didn't bother me, i'm not there to lie and admire the decor, so long as its clean and functionally and it is that. There were 2 chairs and table on balcony and a collapsible dryer for towels.

Pool Area: Pool is Baltic, but once your in its fine, i'm not a fan of cold weather but there were only a few people who went in and they didn't last long.

there were always plenty of loungers, possibly because its the end of Sept although the hotel did still seem to have plenty of people. There are toilets by the pool so that's handy and help yourself soft drinks dispenser (you can't be wet and go into bar).

Large area to sit outside also at chairs and tables and there was entertainment everyday although this didn't intrude if you were just sunbathing.

We took our own towels, i didn't see anywhere they gave out towels but then i didn't go looking.

Bar Area: Very civilised, you queued, you couldn't order more than 2 drinks so the queue moved really quickly even when busy, personally i quite liked this rather than fighting for bar tenders attention, the bar tenders themselves were very quick and polite, no complaints there.

Dining: Plenty of seats and they have a large fridge rammed with wine and san miguel, you help yourself and plenty of people did. The food was hit and miss, some of the buffet food was cold on occasion, for instance i had fish and it was stone cold. I normally tried to have food from the cooking station which varied each night, so there were themes like Mexican and Chinese etc and these were generally OK. I had pork on the last night and it was quite nice to be fair. You did have to go to the bar for your coffee or tea at dinner time, i guess this is to keep tables freed up but guess that was ok. Food was ok generally for the week, though not sure if i wouldn't get fed up with it if i had been there for 2 weeks. There desserts usually left a lot to be desired and i would have liked to see a lot more fresh fruit, like melon etc, they tended to have one and a lot of occasions it seemed like tinned pineapple or pears etc. Ice cream was ok though.

It is all inclusive however i didn't see much evidence in relation to snacks. At 4pm they had a tray of their tasteless little square sponge cakes they have, again in Caribbean ones there are always something available so if you miss a meal your stuck until the next one unless you go buy something.

Location: Location was fine, there was a supermarket across the road which was fine and in walking distance of some shops, bars and pharmacy if you want to go out, but this was a bit boring after a while and anything else was a longer walk or taxi journey.

Beach is great and water shallow for a distance and a lot warmer than the pool, if you like beach as opposed to lounging around the pool then there are plenty loungers etc to hire and a long nice beach.

So plus side is location to beach, clean, good staff and bar and entertainment provided although not always the best entertainment.
The bad was hard bed and hit and miss food, try and use cooking station as much as possible if you like whats being cooked.

So 3 star for me, if your going for a week its fine, if 2 weeks and don't mind a long flight Carribean hotels are much better and better value for money.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms get sun in afternoon, opposite side rooms are away from busy road facing towards sea...

Hello all,
We choose this hotel as we were tired of staying 'family orientated' resorts where entertainment evolved around children's disco and the general noise that accompanies them.( We have children
so don't dislike them..! ) just thought a break would be nice.
The hotel is spotlessly clean with cleaners that seem to clean 24/7.The rooms are ok,if a little small but to be honest given the sunshine, who stays inside?..They have a little balcony, with a table and chairs and a great shower. The hotel also provides towels ( so no bath towels needed! )which,if you want, are changed daily. The hotel also provides a shelf by reception where guests have left toiletries, newspapers and mags and airbeds ( for the beach ) which residents can help themselves to.( Great Idea! ).There is also a very nice little library and piano room, which is hardly used.( Could be put to better use?)
The beach directly opposite the hotel is beautiful and no different from any tropical beach, take some bread with you and feed the fish by the waters edge....Really special.
The drawbacks to this hotel are the main reasons you choose a hotel.
Food ( on an inclusive ) Entertainment ( doesn't everyone want this after dinner?) and sorry to say,the age groups of this complex ( not a main reason but has to be mentioned).
The food was such a let down. All part of going inclusive is to enjoy not having to cook and put away but at this resort i wish that had been an option. The food was tasteless, bland, lukewarm and not as described. If beef lasagne 'without beef' , roast beef 'that wasn't beef,( possibly horse?), cold cuts of ham that were left to curl under lights and half dead salad is acceptable then i obviously have very different standards to everyone else. When you read the description of the cooking and it states 'show cooking' this actually means 'beefburgers (?) and hotdogs (?) every lunchtime,so please don't get your hopes up.
Dessert was rice pudding ( adults?), jelly ( adults?) and small square cakes ( that were then used as 'cakes and coffee in the afternoon' (pass).
Afraid we went out most nights as we didn't go away to eat food that fails description. Not fussy.Neither was we expecting top class cooking, but edible would have been good.
As for the 'entertainment' disappointing couldn't describe this.Perhaps embarrassing, insulting?
On our first night, their 'in-house' entertainer set up his laptop on the stage ( yes, really ) and proceeded to start the evening to the theme song of 'Rainbow' ( children's 80's TV programme)
it was at that point everyone had an early night and the seats emptied.I think out of all the nights we were there (10) we managed to sit through 2 evenings. Most sat around the TV by the bar, played cards and domino's ( really swinging place).....This brings me onto my next point.
The age range wasn't varied,it was mainly over 60's and the hotel seemed to be aimed at that range.I didn't realize we would be staying in a hotel where electric wheelchairs would be parked by the entrance.. Also where 'giant skittles' was the highlight of the day. There is a pool, that nobody uses ( mainly used for sleeping around ) and my highlight was when we jumped in the pool and was greeted with dirty looks and sighs because we had obviously woke them up.(Being 'only' in our 40's i guess it was like having teenagers around! )....Sorry but not at retirement age......just yet.
In summing up,i think it would be alot fairer to advertise this hotel as a 60+ resort,so you would know at least 'a little' of what to expect. It's great if you want to slip into a coma for a fortnight, eat food that defies description and watch TV with the sound off ( really ).....
But if you aren't..I'd advise going elsewhere.

Hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and can,t do enough for you. Layout of the hotel was very simple with dark wood everywhere (dated), bedrooms were small and compact but for what time you spend in them they were fine. Bathrooms cleaned everyday with towels replenished. Food was a let down, no taste to many of the meals, canteen standard. The best thing served which you wouldn,t expect was beef and ale pie, tasty and nice pastry. Beach is just a walk away through the pine trees. Lovely beach and very calm water, sunbeds 4.50 euro,s for the day, comfy sunbeds too. BEWARE if you do use the beach thieves are on the prowl, I had my bag stolen from beside my sunbed with everything in it (Iphones ,Ipod ,wallet with money, shorts & T-shirt) only take a towel (hotel does not provide towels for beach) and book like we found out to our cost. Also take Mozzie repellent differently needed late afternoon and night time. We met some lovely friendly people and made the most of our holiday despite the loss on the beach.Special thank you to Andre on reception he helped us out in our hour of need.

We booked this hotel following a 7 day cruise around the med, the hotel looked ok and was very clean, however we found that a number of the guests were well into the elderly years who enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and other board games, there was always room in the pool, as for the food we found most of the menu was very bland and not very hot, but having said all that if you are looking for quiet holiday and you are not to bothered about the evening entertainment (which was amature at best) this is the place for you. The bedroom although clean had very thin walls and heard our next door guests even when then showered!
