When you are in Alcudia and you want some real culture and typical delicacies then you need to head to Sa Cisterna: this place has it all from knowledgeable Mallorcan owner, to all the bits of pig hanging up in various places, to the well-stocked wine cellar in the basement.
Despite having a great location in the centre of the old town right next to the town hall, this place has very competitive prices and a familiar atmosphere. It’s a great place to buy Christmas presents for foodies as well as holiday gifts and souvenirs. There is a comprehensive selection of foreign beers and Spanish wines, tea and coffee, pates, olive oils and vinegars, jams, flavoured salt from the area and many delicious biscuits.
Hanging up are the typical Mallorcan sobrassadas as well as chorizos, salchichones and other Spanish “sausages”. In the fridge are fine quality Spanish hams and a wide variety of cheeses, which can be bought by weight or can be eaten at the tables in the shop itself. Whenever I visit I like to go down to the wine cellar and choose a bottle of wine, have Salvador the owner to open it for me and serve with a selection of ham, cheese and whatever else looks good on the day. There is a seating area with tables inside the air-conditioned shop and a few tables and chairs outside for those who prefer the open air.
