“Absolutely fantastic!!”
Reviewed April 23, 2010

God knows where these negative reviewers have been but it can't be the same place where we stayed!! My family and I were at the Santa Lucia from 10/04/10; initially for one week but due to the Icelandic eruptions our stay was extended to 10 days - at no further cost to ourselves and with no compromise in the superb all inclusive service!
I totally disagree with the previous negative commentary. This hotel may not be a paradigm of excellence but believe me, I have stayed at far worse so called 4 star establishments and the Santa Lucia (rated at a modest 3 stars) outshines these in every respect fully deserving of it's Thomson 4 'T's. Something which my family and most of our fellow travellers also agreed with.
The hotel has one of the most beautiful locations in Mallorca with golden beaches either side gauranteeing a sea view, and also within a few meters of the various shops, bars and restaurants of Palma Nova. Check-in was swift and efficient and we were given room 715 which had a fantastic view of the Son Matias bay. We found the room to be perfectly adequate and considering we had a standard double with an extra bed for my teenage son, there was sufficient space for all three of us. It was cleaned every day and included a fitted hair dryer in the bathroom, complimentary soaps, gels & shampoos with fresh towels provided daily. We had no problems with hot water at all.
Spanish hotels tend not to include tea & coffee making facilities so these should not be expected. Safe, fridge and T.V are all there if you need them but we never found it necessary and we also rarely watch TV whilst on holiday! However, it was useful on this occasion if only to to keep abreast of the volcanic situation.
There are a generous selection of dishes at each meal time catering for every possible palate and the choice is so varied that it is quite inconceivable for anyone to struggle to find something suitable. Additionally, we never encountered "luke warm" food and were very satisfied with the standard of quisine and drinks available - which I must also point out that for all inclusive guests there are very pleasant house red & white wines, various soft drinks such as Pepsi, Fanta etc and local draft beer. Like the food, these are on a self-service basis with completely unrestricted use. There is a specific area in the restaurant for A/I guests which is simply designed to segregate these additional services from other non-inclusive guests.
Any complaints from half board guests were completely unjustified, as the hotel upgraded these people to full board (including soft and alcoholic drinks at meal times) absolutely free of charge over the enforced 'extra time'. Under no circumstances were they obliged to do this but they obviously thought it would relieve some anxiety throughout this unfortunate spell.I thought it was a great gesture - however ungratefully received. Still, where would the English be with nothing to winge about!! Perhaps the reported sicknesses were due in part to over indulgence!! My family and aquaintances never suffered any such discomfort but then again, we don't tend to gormandise just because we are A/I.
The evening entertainment was excellent commencing with a quiz and bingo, which was organised extremely well by Sam and Sonia. The bingo prize money was always in excess of €100 and the ongoing accumulating 'Jackpot 12' reaching over €400 whilst we were there!
This is followed later by the main cabaret acts comprising of solo singers, duo's and various other dance and magic acts. More entertainment continues into the early hours in the cocktail bar, which does allow smoking but being non-smokers, we just decided to sit near the doorway.
There is a designated A/I area of the main bar and drinks here are limited to 2 per person for obvious reasons. However, repeat trips are unlimited and the swift service and generous measures (half a tall glass is one shot!) were more than welcome! Light snacks are also available to A/I guests in the afternoon from this bar.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Santa Lucia having met some very nice people and my son also had a wonderful time making several new friends in the process!
If we had any cause to complain then I would say so but I have nothing but sincere praise for this hotel and it's friendly, efficient staff. Thanks must also be given to Thomson's for their hard working and level headed staff operating under such unique and sometimes trying circumstances.
We will definitely be back!!

Came back after I weeks break with husband and 10yr old grandaughter we went last year and the views are excellent though the rooms need updating and are only for couples not suitable for families you have to pay for the fridge & safe also any snacks so it not really fully linclusive as advertised. Two days into the holiday our grandaughter went down with a bug and had to spend two days in the room this I know could happen anywhere but after speaking with others in the hotel there were 22 cases that we knew of who had the same problem spoke with the rep and was told it had been reported in several hotels on the island! It is a pity because you cannot fault the cleanliness or friendliness of the staff we feel it has been spoiled going fully inclusive and should stick to attracting the older age groups think twice before booking people should be advised of this sicknes bug as our grandaughter has only just started to recover! what a holiday.

Where to start. Rooms very old fashioned and very dated and very small. Time for a lick of paint and update. 10 inch portable, no tea/coofee facilities or kettle etc. fridge locked as have to pay for use of it. and 25 euros per week for safe. What a rip off. Hair dryer the worst ive seen and no use what so ever. half size bath, and 4 nights out of 7 we had no hot water so had to shower in cold water which was a nightmare. Very very basic rooms. Balcony covered in pigeon dropings so did not want to go out there and dare not touch anything or even sit there. Walls paper thin. the man next door kept me awake all night with his very loud snoring. Conecting rooms which made me uncomfortable as a simple lock to keep closed. didnt do much for my sense of security.
Now for the rest of the facts. we complained to thomsons but got no help what so ever as they protect the hotel and what they say goes. No help at all. We phoned help line and cost us over £5 in mobile calls just to be told take it up when you get home.
We arrived and told room not ready so come back to reception in 30 mins. Remember we had been up at 3am and flew at 7am and where tyred and hungry. the room was still not ready and told to come back again in 30 mins and then told come back a third time in 10 to 20 mins and so on and so on until eventually we got keys and then only by complaining approx 2 hrs and 10 mins later. In this time they dont give you all inclusive band and said youll get it when you get keys to room. We asked for a coffee and was told we would have to pay for it. Remeber food ended 2.30 and that when we got keys. Had we not complained we would of not been fead. We where furious as what sort of hotel treats a guest like this. No customer service what so ever. We wasted most of our first day. When we arrived at room the smell was enough to knock you out. It was a dirty stale smoking room. We got cleaner and her supervisor came along and didnt even come in room and could smell and said using hand signals smokey smokey fume. And cleaner came with a liquid trigger spray bottle and sprayed everything including all over our bedding. If the bedding had been fully changed as it should be then why did she need to spray it all. You ask yourself. Remeber this is suppose to be a no smoking room hotel. When asked thomsons rep this she said we only ask guests not to. Ashtrays are supplied on balcony. What a con, as we when to welcome meeting and it was never mentioned to anyone not to smoke in room. We had no hot water at all and complained to hotel and rep. Told boiler when off first night. Then told was fixed and then another night was told only temp fixed but now ok so will be hot in 10 mins. Never was and then next night told will be hot soon and then 4th night told more rubbish. Rep said no body except us reported it but then said about boiler off or broke etc so if no one complained how did she know all this. It was the topic of conversation in lounge on night as so many people where complaining about cold water showers as it seems the hotel cannot cope with everyone showering at same time so goes cold and
you have to wait until it reheats up again so rep told us so why tell lies and not admit poor water system needs upgrade.
Right what next ah yes the all inclusive deal. if you go before 1st may then you do not get the full deal but no one tells you that. There is no food between 2.30 and 6pm so get your fill othertimes as we had to pay for a toastie on afternoon which we were quite annoyed at. We asked rep and she said thomsons had published brochure before agreeing to this deal with hotel so i should of been told when booked not full brochure all inclusive was offered. Half board customers are treat much better and with far grater respect. you get greated at restaurant door and shown to your seat with waitress service for drinks and greated as madam and sir but all inclusive are not. You just get pointed to your section away from half board people and you just get on with it. half board have there own bar but all inc have a trolley with 2ltr bottles of warm pop and warm wine to help self with tiny tiny tiny wine glass. Where as half board have large wine glass on table ready for them.. There are A4 sheets of paper to tell you where your allowed to sit and if you dare to sit elsewhere they will quickly tell you to move.
When at bar it is even more degrading. Theres a really long bar in lounge and only half baord allowed at it. They only can sit at bar. They get greeted as sir and madam and served with a smile. All inc have to que round the corner out of the way and no service with a smile. They shout coments like "one more" when serving you. It is awful and you feel degraded like your on a free holiday or something and second class people. one day there was no one at bar and 2 lads came in to ask something and bar tender pointed as they where wearing bands. pointed to end of bar and made then go there before speaking to them. I could not believe it as they only wanted to ask something.
Sunbeds are a joke, very few and a imposibilty to get one. No daytime entertainment as offered. Night night activities the same every night. Quiz or nothing followed by bingo and a singer at 10pm thats when night entertainment starts for 1 hr. and then either kareoke or nothing. 1hr per nighrt how bads that. Strict 2 drink policy. My hubby when to ask for a coffee and a baleys for me and a pint for him. He had to get baileys and coffee and then go to back of long cue and get his pint. What a joke. Tiny tiny sherry glass of baileys with one mouthful of baileys in. Remember this is cheap rubbish you getting and a tiny tiny tiny little glass the same with wine. two mouthfulls and back to bar. no way could you even get tight as you spend more time at bar trying to get a drink. The worst all inclusive we have ever experienced and i only have 3 drinks on average per day. Food ok, very very basic and some night so dry and overcooked. Poor variety. Thats about it. The one good thing in this hotel is location. thats perfect.

Went Thomson all inclusive, 19th March for 1 week from Manchester T2. No problems with airport or flights, for a change, as we've not been from Manchester for a few years and T2 is much improved! Hotel was good, though beds a bit hard, and I don't think they've quite got the "all inclusive" act together yet. Food was fairly standard for all inclusive, not always piping hot, but wide choice at all meals. Didn't watch the entertainment, but seemed varied over the week for those who did. Cocktail bar is a smoking room - good for me, maybe not for others as it didn't seem to have an efficient extractor.
The hotel and resort were fairly quiet, which was what we wanted, and maybe failry hectic in high season.
Sky Sports in both bars, showed seemingly endless football (yawn) though did catch a bit of cricket and 2 Rugby matches! A first for us, TV in room had BBC1 and 2 plus eurosport and other channels (Spanish and German).
With good weather for March and being pleased with the overall package, I'd recommend the Hotel. Only downside was Thomson's total inability to deal with e-mail queries in a reasonable time.

Just returned from lovely holiday at santa lucia, couldnt fault it. We had high floor pool view and the views from the balcony were stunning. Although the rooms were small they were adequate and very clean. The maid service was excellent.

Food was buffet style with plenty of choice and always hot.Dining staff very helpful and showed you to table for evening meal, save you having to hunt for one.

Evening entertainment was quite good. They had dancing early in the evening then the usual bingo. After that the show for one hour. They were on the whole very good then if you wanted the evening to continue there was an act in another bar. The only downside to this was that it was a smoking bar so we didnt go into those shows.
I would definately recommend this hotel for a very enjoyable holiday

Very central to Palma or Magaluf. We have stayed here three times and aways found it good value for the money. Staff always helpful but the queue for the sunbeds at EIGHT in the morning is a joke. However the rule when we were there, was, if somebody had claimed several sunbeds and left them for over two hours, you just handed the towels in at the reception and claimed the beds. This caused a lot of fun when certain thoughtless people turned up looking for their beds and towels after going shopping all morning. You would'nt believe how stroppy some people get (yes english) when you do this. But its the rules. (If we did'nt have rules, where would we be). Exactly.

I have just returned from the Santa Lucia and really enjoyed my stay there. All rooms have a balcony and sea view and I was right up at the top and had fantastic views and a larger balcony than most. The staff are all smilingand helpful and the restaurant provides a good selection of buffet food. Most of the guests during my stay were in the older age bracket and the staff were extremely helpful towards those less mobile guests who needed help to use the buffet by selecting food and carrying plates etc.
There is a bus stop 150metres from the hotel outside the Son Matias Hotel with frequent buses into Palma in one direction or Santa Ponca & Paquera in the other. Bus ride to Palma takes about 45 minutes and costs E 2.85 to Paquera it is E2.40 and takes about the same time. Plenty of local shops and cafes very close to the hotel and about a 20 minute walk to Magaluf.
